WCF GAME 5: Blackhawks 1 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

Man, thats the 2nd time tonight where Hossa has taken too long to get that shot off. What happened to the quick release? Oh well, can't complain about his play otherwise.

Haha, x2 Or Maltby. Hes actually played a great game, making some good passes.

Wings-Hawks, Game 4 Coming up during the intermission: "Are the Pens destined to win the cup?" I loved the similar segment on NBC and Versus about the Wings/Hawks during the Canes/Pens Game 4. Oh wait...

I love how I can watch a WINGS - HAWKS game and yet still have the intermission dominated by the Pens.

Hossa must be smelling Pittsburgh on the horizon. Hes been our best forward out on the ice, sans Helm.

    Caps players on Steroids?

Does anyone else find it weird that the dealers felt the need to call out two DC teams and no one else? Why admit that you've sold it to all kinds of folks, yet randomly call out two teams in DC?

Would it be better if the Wings lost Game 5?

If we win, cool. If we lose, it makes the loss a lot easier to stomach. The thought of only 2 days rest before back to back games makes me just as nervous as a 3-2 series lead.
  9. Fixed. I love Ohlund. Gritty guy whos strong on both ends of the ice. He wouldn't be our #4 here, he'd be our #3. Hes better than Kronwall has been this entire season, playoffs included. But it really doesn't make any sense.

    Dear.......

I want nothing more than to see Crosby get Kronwalled.

Pittsburgh Penguins advance to Stanley Cup Finals

I didn't watch any of the games - I can't stomach the Pens - but you have to give them props. While Carolina wasn't the toughest competitor, they were still a solid team that the Pens killed. With the way the Wings decide to play when they feel like it, the Pens could easily grab that and run.

McKeon: Geez, not ANOTHER Wings-Penguins Cup final...

People will watch regardless, because it makes for a good story. But hes right. Its definitely got a "been there, done that" feel to it. I'm guessing that the majority of non-Wings and Pens fans are going to be tuning in simply because they either 1) want to see Detroit lose; or 2) want to see Crosby lose. The ratings will be high - can't deny that - but it might have a lot to do with hate for this teams than love for hockey.

    Johan Franzen

Meh. Franzen has been ridiculous on some nights, and has been absent on others. Hes been good all around, but this team has won in the playoffs with different folks stepping up from night to night. In terms of forwards, I'd give Cleary, Franzen, and Zetterberg about the same amount of votes for the Conne Smythe. Franzen is scoring the most and scores big goals, but Hank and Cleary have been better defensively. Cleary also scores big goals too, but not as many. Zetterberg has been the best defensively among our forwards (hello 5 on 3 PKs) and has quietly been producing, yet hasn't scored many big goals. Any way you slice it, all 3 of those guys, in my eyes, have their pros and cons (pardon the pun). If you want to look at it in terms of consistency, then I think you'd have to go with Osgood for the Smythe right now. Hes had ONE bad game - #4 against Columbus - and there was speculation that he was injured. But other than that, there isn't a player on this team that can match him in terms of consistency and high-level performance. The dude has been on his game 95% of the time, whereas even Nicklas Fricking Lidstrom has been inconsistent.

Big E's play as of late

You want to know whats up with Ericsson lately? Hes worn out. 20 minutes of NHL playoff hockey a night on average for a rookie who has never played a steady string of NHL regular season games, let alone playoff games, let alone playoff games like the 7 we saw against Anaheim. Hes mentally and physically tired. Hes basically been baptized by fire. Not to mention, hes essentially been bumped around the back-end night after night with the revolving door we have on the back-end. He needs a break, and a solidified role on this team. None of this #2 Dman to #5 Dman to #3 Dman stuff like hes been seeing throughout the playoffs.

Should Babcock stick with the Hossa/Flip combo?

Hudler is the 2nd best passer on this team. The best on some nights. But thats neither here nor there. Hudler will never be utilized well on this team, because Babs hates him. Simple fact. And yes, to the OP, Hossa and Flip should stay together. They're much better together than apart.

Honestly, I think Lidstrom could use a few nights off. His age is catching up with him, and he lost a lot of gas halfway through that Anaheim series.
