Any Captains Out There We Can Steal?

The PK time IS relevant because it shows that on a team that is not particularly deep on defensive forwards, he still wont be trusted with any PKing time. As for the Swedish argument? I was unaware that Naslund wasnt playing with 4 other high-profile Swedes. Not to mention, his best Swedish friend is Forsberg. As for "changing" Naslund, at 5M per season like hell likely command, thats way too much money to invest in a player that doesnt suit our system and doesnt come ready to play like we want.

    Why not steal Shea Weber?

How will Nashville screw itself? Theyve done nothing bought sign players to great contracts recently.

    Olli Jokinen to Phoenix

Thats probably because hes never played an NHL playoff game. At any rate, I dont think the Cats traded him because they thought he might not perform in the playoffs. The majority of their roster has never seen a playoff game. The fact that they traded him for a lesser return when 1) his contract had no effect on them financially and 2) its not the trade deadline pretty much signifies that Martin really wanted Jokinen off his roster at all costs. If this is really the case, then I expect Florida to make a pitch for some leadership guys. Jason Smith as a depth addtion on the back end to guide the yound Dmen they have in Allen, JBo, and now Ballard, and a forward up front who can similarly mentor Horton, Frolik, Weiss, Booth, and Matthias. Somebody like Holik, Conroy, Gelinas, Rolston, or Shanahan could go along way in helping out in the leadership/mentoring role up front. Particularly Shanny..

    Olli Jokinen to Phoenix

Thats a little different. Dan Cleary never had the statisical clout that would convince GMs and coaches to overlook the fact that he had a bad attitude and work ethic. For all we know, Jokinen couldve been down in Florida being a Yashin type presence in the locker-room. God knows its possible considering Florida probably gets the least media coverage of any NHL team...

    This Years Mr Irrelevant

Hahahaha. Why did you just compare Sammy to Maltby, Downey, and your everyday defenseman? The fact that you cant think of anyone better says a lot. Thats like saying. Well jeez guys, Maltby doesnt put up a whole lot of points, but I can think of a TON of people who put up less. Brad Norton, my grandmother, my 1 year old nephew...

Who is gonna be the best steal in the offseason?

No. Naslund is the one thats boring. No defense, mediocre numbers, and 13 hits in 82 games. Robert Lang can make some fancy moves too..

    Curtis Joseph

If Detroit decides to bring in Howard as the backup, its not likely that theyll keep him as their backup for the entire season, particularly down the home stretch when the team is gearing up for the playoffs and would like a veteran presence for backup in the playoffs. And while everyone is talking about having a guy on the team to win the cup for, why not Joseph? Its possible that he wouldnt want to come back to Detroit, after the way he was treated by Detroit in the first place, but they do have a great chance to repeat and this could be his last chance to get his name on the cup. I for one never thought theyd bring back Hasek, and they did that, so I guess anything is possible. Hes not a great player anymore, but he would be added security, especially for the playoffs, and is a team player. He never complained about the way he was treated in Detroit.. And correct me if Im wrong, but didnt Detroit carry 3 goaltenders on their roster a few seasons ago?

Any Captains Out There We Can Steal?

Its not even about Naslunds offense. Its more about the fact that he cant captain his team, is inconsistent, prone to floating, isnt gritty, doesnt play with energy, and has NO defensive game. Why do we want to bring back Robert Lang Swedish Style?? A few important things you need to know about Naslund: 1. Average PK time per game? 0:03 2. There were 7 Wings who had fewer than 13 hits on the Red Wings roster. None of them played more than 8 games. Markus Naslund played 82 games. How many hits did he have? 13. This guy would be a terrible step in the wrong direction.

    SI Article: Wings Drafting...

It would be one thing if it were a few fluke picks. Its like everyone thinks that Datsyuk and Zetterberg are the only ones. Here are some notables in the Wings past 15 years, both good prospects and players Logan Pyett - 7th round, 212 Darren Helm - 5th round, 132 Kyle Quincey - 4th round, 132 Derek Meech - 7th round, 229 Johnathan Ericsson - 9th round, 291 Henrik Zetterberg - 7th round, 210 Pavel Datsyuk - 6th round, 171 Tomas Holmstrom - 10th round, 257 And I realize this isnt really current enough, but I never realized how great the 89 draft was for us 1st - Sillinger 2nd Round - Boughner 3rd - Lidstrom 4th - Fedorov 6th - Drake 11th - Konstantinov

FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

Anyways...Back OT Anyone heard any updates about Sundins status? Any chance the Habs are getting a little more reluctant to add Sundin now that Hossa is on the market?

FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

Wow. You clearly havent watched enough Philly games this year. Philly fans are hoping Hatcher will retire and Smith is lost out there these days. Homer has been looking to trade Smith since halfway through the season. And Rathje is the same guy they were mulling over putting on waivers. Not its not a good defensive core at all. Offense is great, even though Upshall isnt a top 6 forward - it would be Carter in the top six - and Gagne is a shadow of his former self. But its the defense that isnt too good.

Who is gonna be the best steal in the offseason?

How exactly does Hossa fall into the category of steal?? In my book, a "steal" means you sign a guy cheaper than everyone else, or you sign an underrated guy who ends up performing way beyond expectiations. Maybe if Hossa signed for less than Datsyuk, itd be a steal. But otherwise, no. I could see a guy like Liles getting around 4M and then out of nowhere putting up huge numbers.

    Mayers Traded to Toronto

http://blues.nhl.com/team/app?articleid=36...mp;service=page No idea why Toronto does this. Tuckers there already. Why does Toronto need a middle weight? To protect who? And at the expense of a 3rd round pick. Opinions? And sorry if this has been posted already. On the bright side, we wont be seeing as much of Mayers anymore.

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

We'll have this discussion after another season, when Hudler is actually able to re-up. Chris Kelly just pulled in 2.2M over 4 years. And thats with a whopping 30pts this season.

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

Take another look, buddy. Thats the roster for 2009-2010. Chelios also hasnt made 1M in at least 3 years. And he shouldnt be coming back in 09-10.

Plus hes Swedish and has a cool nickname. Better add another 10 points..

    Sleeper UFA's

See thats why I DONT want Ryder. We have so many guys that are along the 18-25, 50 point track that its gonna be impossible to give them all enough ice time to have them actually perform to those numbers. Its already happening now with Cleary, Sammy, Flip, Hudler, and Frazen all having the potential to easily be 20G, 50P players on a yearly basis but cant get the time..
  20. YoungGuns1340

    Sleeper UFA's

I was gonna suggest that, but the guy would take a SERIOUS paycut just to stay with Iginla. Hes gone on record saying that a billion times. Unless Sutter has absolutely no interest in him, he'll be back with the Flames. Its like expecting Draper to not re-up with the Wings when Kenny wants him to return. The fact that hes not signed yet likely means Sutter isnt making him a priority, as he knows Conroy wont take another offer from a team, rather than the fact that Conroy isnt in their plans.

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

Wait, wait, wait. Franzen has shown hes the real deal, but Hossa is a gamble?? Im confused which is the perennial 30+ goal scorer and which is the one to never have hit that mark? Which one is an 100 point forward and which has yet to break 40 points?

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

The cap has increased by approximately 6M over the past two years and 5M prior. Im wary of the predictions that the cap will be up to 62 million by 09-10, so Ill got with a modest estimate of 59.3. An increase at half the rate of the past two years. Lets see what some of Hollands options would be, if he were to offer an 7.5-8 million cap hit contract to Hossa: Zetterberg - 8 years/57M Hossa - 6 years/48M Filppula - 3 years/6.3M Franzen - 4 years/11.2M 2009-2010 Hank (7.125) - Datsyuk(6.7) - Hossa (8) Franzen (2.8) - Filppula (2.1) - Holmstrom (2.25) Cleary (2.8) - Helm (.5) - Abdelkader (.5) Kopecky (.8) - Draper (1.583) - Maltby (.883) McCarty/Downey/Youngster/UFA (.5) Lidstrom (7.45) - Raffi (6) Kronwall (3) - Ericsson (1) Lebda(.65) - Quincey (.6) Meech (.483) Osgood (1.417) Howard (.85) Total: 57.9 That leaves 1.4M available at the trade deadline, if NEXT years cap rises by only 3M. For those counting, that would be enough money to add a $4M Dman at the trade deadline.

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

If hes able to do that, then yes, but if he doesnt, Hudler will be looking to make 3M easily, if not more. My motive for saying that Holland will be looking to trade Hudler is that Hudlers paycheck will far exceed 1M come 09-10.
  24. YoungGuns1340

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

Thats more than a fair trade off. Even if Franzen scored 30 goals and 60 points - which is unlikely, at least where total points are concerned - he'd still be Marian Hossa Lite. Are people aware that Franzen and Hossa are less than a year apart?

Marian Hossa will test free agent market

You forgot Holmstrom. At this point, hes closer to the secondary scoring side.
