Yup. I agree. It depends on how Holland would want to handle the situation, and also on the development of Franzen, Flip, and Hudler. I can guarantee that if Holland signed Hossa, Hudler would be put immediately on the block and Sammy wouldnt be re-signed in the off-season.

The LAST thing we need is secondary scoring. We have that out the wazoo. Cleary, Filppula, Samuelsson, Franzen, and Hudler. Thats 5 players capable of minutes and positions on anything from the 3rd-1st lines in a scoring role. If we add anything up front, it should be something of impact. As in a guy that should perform no lower than a top 6 role.

Hossa: 61 playoff points / 75 playoff games = .81 PPG Datsyuk: 54 playoff points / 82 playoff games = .66 PPG You were saying?

The Wings have been a successful franchise for nearly over 15 years already. Essentially meaning they havent had high picks for that long. Its been Illitch's philosophy for a while now that once the Red Wings had established a good core - around 20 years ago - that he was going to use his pocketbook to keep it that way and build on that. I cant think of any other NHL owner who is as committed to the win now philosophy as Illitch is, so knowing that, if Im the Wings brass, Im going to assemble a group of hardworking scouts that are willing to scout the tough places and have the ability to see potential that may not become apparent until 5-10 years after the prospect is drafted. And IMO, thats exactly what the Wings have done.

Owen Nolan and Alex Auld. You know whats scary? I could see them offering peanuts for Cloutier whos recently been bought out.

Get 100 points in the regular season alongside Datsyuk, Zetterberg or both. Be a key piece in a cup run. Win a cup. Test free agency again when the cap is once again higher, you can boast better stats, have a stanley cup to your name, and can still garner a fat contract in your prime at 30 years of age. Somebody forward this gameplan to Hossa.

60 odd games of underperforming?? What do you think he just had a handful of good regular season games? He only played 72 games this year, and he went on his streak for the entire last 16 games of the season. Prior to that he was 1) injured and 2) recovering from his injury on the 4th line. His hot streak happened to coincide with his getting 2nd line minutes. Edit: Not saying he should get a fat contract now, just pointing out that his performance had more to it than it just being a flash in the pan.

By the time Hank and Franzens contracts kick in, the cap should be around 58M, if not more.

Hossa to Detroit. 1 year @ 11M. Oops forgot this:

oops you can delete this. we posted at the same time...

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...g/s_573988.html Too bad he wouldnt take a one year deal. At any rate, this pretty much ensures he wont be back with Pittsburgh. He wants to see what other offers he gets and whatever offer he gets is sure to blow the Pens 7.1M offer out of the water. Pens lose their best SC finals forward.

Haha. I just remembered when the cap cieling was 39M. The floor has now surpassed that.

Yup. This has been a big issue last year, particularly because Feaster wanted to move one of the big three, and there were issues that Koules wouldnt buy the team if one of St. Louis, Richards, or Lecavalier were traded. I guess Koules ending up being fine with the Richards deal (im pretty sure even though he wasnt the official owner yet, they still had to run the trade by him). Spectors was keeping tabs on the TB ownership saga for a while..

Pierre McGuire is a ****** bag. The Hakan Andersson theory is that he goes to the tough places where no one else bothers to look and knows that no one is going to take these guys because no one has seen them play and what these young prospects put up on paper in their early careers are fairly underwhelming. Considering the rate at which we draft gems in the late rounds clearly speaks to the fact that "well no one else knows about this guy, so lets take him late when no other good players are left, and use our high picks to draft the good prospects everyone knows about, before theyre all gone."
-
Definitely seems like one of those picks where Andersson went the extra mile where other scouts just wouldnt make the effort.
-
Why dont you try reading his original post before jumping on his back about something completely unrelated. His point about Colorado was that they're likely to be a playoff team next year and since weve gone through them 3/4 times weve won a cup, its been a good omen. Had nothing to do with the rivalry..
-
Hahaha priceless. Another Sammy.
-
Haha. Yeah but I think theyre missing that whole part where the guy actually has to be projected to be a late bloomer, not some crappy pick.
-
Correction. 1.75M is a worthy price for a guy that doesnt even have a full season of good NHL goaltending under his belt. Just because some stupid GM wouldve thrown 3M his way, doesnt mean thats what hes worth. Poile is proving to be a very good GM in the crunch. Dumont, Legwand, Suter, and now Ellis. Not bad. Except for that Erat contract...that was so-so...

Luke Witkowski from Holland, MI was drafted a little earlier too..

As much as I dont want to believe it, Im not sure Id put it past Sundin. I know hes been a really great and honorable guy for Toronto, but it really seems like the Swedes know something about him that we dont. A lot of the legit reports out of Detroit have been how the Wings arent friends with him, and wont be calling up Sundin to convince him to come, dont think he'll come to Detroit, etc.
-
So like... Fil-pppppehhh-u-la?
-
Im most excited for the 211th pick..
-
Best name of the draft so far? EERO ELO. What is up with fins and needing to repeat letters?
-
You mean a player who didnt want to play on their team? A player that was gonna leave after this season anyways? and who was the least of their good young offense with Brown, O'Sully, Kopitar, and Frolov? The Kings need draft picks in a defenseman-heavy draft more than they do young forwards.
