I meant to post about this earlier. Two things Ive noticed about faceoffs in this series, and its got me wondering. Ive never seen either of these things happen so often in a game, game after game in a series. 1. Our top faceoff takers are ritualistically getting thrown out of the faceoff circle. 2. Every other time the puck is dropped, it wasnt dropped "fairly" and they have to redo it. Anyone else notice this? If youre an NHL official in the Stanley Cup Finals, why cant you drop a puck fairly? Why is that so hard? Im wondering this because, a lot was made out of the Red Wings being a really good faceoff team, and the Penguins being among the worst in the league, and that being an advantage to the Red Wings. Is this being done on purpose to give the Penguins an advantage or am I being a conspiracy theorist? Its just odd to me because I have never seen this happen as often as it has this series. Another thing thats interesting is that most of the time when the puck "isnt dropped fairly", the inital "unfair faceoff" is won by the Red Wings and has to be re-dropped by the officials. Can I get some feedback here?

Getting a little nervous, Detroit fans?
YoungGuns1340 replied to BewareThePenguin's topic in General
I think Pittsburgh should be the nervous one. They had to rely on the Wings to score a goal for them and MAF had the game of his life. Turco was the hero in game 5 too. Look how that turned out for him. -
Goals for the Wings: Game 1: 4 Game 2: 3 Game 3: 2 Game 4: 2 Game 5: 3 Game 6: 4 I think the Pens are gonna have to score 5 goals if they want to take this. 4-2 or 4-1 Wings win it.

Is it the mother of all game 7s cause its not going to happen?

What is up with faceoff circle issues in this series?

If the official thinks that he dropped the puck too closely to one player, he blows his whistle and they redo the puck drop. -

You guys seriously havent noticed this? Im tempted to download the game and count how many times the puck has to be re-dropeed cause it hasnt been dropped fairly. I pay attention closely to every faceoff. -
Good to see you speaking WAY too soon.

Jesus Christ. Who the f*** brought this thread up. What are you trying to do? Jinx the hell out of this team. Its not over til its over.
-
Haha yeah I was just going to edit that..cause it was par for the course tonight.
-
Reffing isnt the reason we lost, but jesus. What the f*** was up with the officiating tonight? The first call on Datsyuk - a guy who rarely who takes penalties as it is - gets called for a Pens player losing an edge, which negated our PP?? Then the ridiculous goaltender intereference calls, particularly the one where Cleary was skating past the net only to get tripped by Fleury - and CLEARY gets the call?
-
I couldnt believe that the knee on Helm wasnt called.

Try giving Kronwall a little credit for even getting you to OT.

Not cancelled. Just postponed.
-
Wow. That actually makes me feel a lot better. Thanks.

Why are people so bent on using history as an indicator? I never understood this. Theres a first time for everything. Not saying itll happen - I think we still take Game 6 due to the fact that Fleury isnt ever going to play like that again (see Turco in game 5, then game 6) - but history really doesnt mean squat as you can change the present with the drop of a hat.
-
I actually had a feeling all along that wed win it in Pittsburgh. I just chose to ignore it cause I hate that thought.
-
Kronwall, Osgood and Fleury sum up this game for me.
-
No. All the forwards played well in my book. Fleury was dominant. Kronwall scored an own goal, but hes still miles better than Cheli, and I thought Lebda and Lilja looked more like the 2nd pairing tonight.
-
I think Filppula and Datsyuk was magic, as was Franzen and Zetterberg. Those pairs were AWESOME. If not for Fleury having the game of his life, one of those pairs wouldve won it. I thought it worked out well and shouldve been done sooner before Fleurys ego was the size of JLA.

When the Wings won the cup in washington in 1998, the Caps fans stood on their feet and cheered the Red Wings. They were undoubtedly heart-broken, but at least they got to see the cup in person.

Thats always how it is on this board. People like to put themselves on a pedastal for not getting worked up over a loss. Why is half this board so sensitive?? People get pissed when their favorite team loses, and they have every right to. Nobody is saying the Wings went and lost the series tonight. Some of you need to get off your high horse.
-
Helm was one of our best players tonight. No doubt about that. He made something happen every single time he was out there.
-
Yup. Every loss is the same as one where you came 35 seconds away from winning the cup.
-
I agree, mainly because Im not sure Fleury or the rest of the Pens can bring the fire that they did in this game. I dont see Fleury ever having another game like he did tonight.

Technically the Wings scored 4 goals, Pittsburgh only scored 3.
