In my defense, at the time this thread was made, Franzen had shown no indication of what he is today, even after nearly 3 seasons worth of play and being a 27/28 year old. Thats reason enough for people to act a certain way. He certainly was a late bloomer. And my biggest issue with him was that it took him a LONG time to get down to using his body. He still could do better in that regard in my opinion, where he could be a Brendan Morrow like hittter.

Why the hell are people even TALKING about Sid getting the Conne Smythe? Are you all on crack?? Unless his team wins this thing in 7 with he himself being huge on the scoresheet over the next 3 games then its not going to happen. How many times has it happened in the NHL. Giguere and who else? Its RARE. If the Wings win tonight, Sidney Crosby wont touch the Smythe. You dont win it with only a 1 pt lead on the next closest guy and your team averaging a whole ONE GOAL A GAME against the Wings in the finals.

It was nice to hear what Getzlaf had to say, especially since I'd bet you any money he has a lot more hate stored up for the Wings than he does for the Pens. He made some good comments - most of it obvious - and it was nice to see he didnt agree with the bulls*** call on Lilja. I gained a little respect for Getzlaf after that read, considering, like I said, its probably not real easy for him to give one of his rival teams credit, which he did in that article.

This is the point: Its not about whether or not Crosby is 20 because, BY NATURE OF THE FACT THAT HE WAS GIVEN THE CAPTAINCY MEANS HE SHOULD BE DISPLAYING A MATURITY LEVEL ABOVE THAT OF A 20 YEAR OLD. Other young players arent captains because they arent mature enough to be. By giving Crosby that C, he no longer gets a free pass because of being a youngster. Instead, that C says "Im mature enough, classy enough, smart enough, and strong enough to be the leader and face of my team. I'm mature enough to be the image of my team and act as a representation of all my fellow players." Sidney Crosby is a captain. He was given that captaincy for the same reason guys like Lidstrom, Morrow, and Doan were. Are those guys going to jaw at the refs? Yes. Make a dirty play? Probably. But are they going to get off the ice, treat the media like s***, not dole out respect where its due, and ignore the things they and their teammates can do better? Absolutely not. Even Chris Pronger - a guy that most Wings fans hate and loathe as a captain - knows these things. After the Stars were up 2 games to none against the Ducks, what did Pronger say? "Nobody's quitting. We've got to dig in now, do a good job back there like they did against us here." Acknowledging the Stars strong play and looking towards themselves to get better. THATS what good captains do. If Crosby isnt capable, then he should've spent more time as an alternate.

But Zetterberg was the one that saved the tying goal from Crosby tonight..

Sidney Crosby: "Yeah...he got his stick on my stick...but [Zetterberg] didnt do anything out of the ordinary that any other player wouldve done on a 5 on 3." Mickey: "Did you hear that? He was VERY reluctant to give Zetterberg any credit." What an immature little kid.

Itll be Zetterberg. Why? Hes got the points AND the faceofs AND now he saved a goal for Osgood tonight as well. Hes 5 on 3 there was AMAZING. He earned the Smythe tonight. Especially after Osgood gave up an iffy goal or two in game 3.

f*** Pittsburg. Whining. Crying. s***ty ass team that cant score a goal with a minute and a half 5 on 3. I wouldnt be nearly this caustic towards Pittsburg if their captain didnt act like such a ****** bag and their so-called "MVP" didnt fall to the ice every time he was touched.

With the lack of standouts in this series, and with the majority of the NHL thinking Osgood is only good because of his defense, Im pretty sure Zetterberg just locked up the Smythe with that incredible PKing shift.

I hate that ******* piece of s*** Crosby. He tried to bareback Lilja. Did you see him literally try and LEAP over a 6 foot 5 man. That was a joke of a ******* penalty. Shame on the refs for biting on that one.

Malkin barely gets the calls for him because he does the same play every time. Take on 3 guys, fall down. Take on 4 guys, fall down. Take on 1 guy, fall down.

Phew, ok. Im done with my rant. The Wings will win this!! 2-1 and then the Empty netter. Wings take this 3-1. I can still feel this. Our best period always seems to be the third. Get one goal and thats all we need. We can hold them off.

What happened to Datsyuk and Zetterberg? Theyve moved away from the slick spinaround-out-of-the-corner moves and its killed their game.

Theyre getting a way with a ton of stickwork inthe offensive zone. Its sickening. They just maul all our guys in the corners.

No they arent. Detroit is much better than Pittsburg 5 on 5 tonight. Anyone else notice how Osgoods already played the puck behind the net more in the first period than he had in the entire last game? You guys need to relax a bit. You can tell that the Wings are playing much better than the Pens, they just need to get their flow going. Half the period was special teams. All the Wings need to do is stay out of the box and theyve easily got this game.

I blame this thread for the loss tonight. Way to get all your bad mojo and negative energy tipping the scales for the Wings.
