Datsyuk making good defensive plays?? What does he think hes a Selke candidate or something??
-
I was just gonna say. He jinxed his team with that one.
-
I dont think there are games "well in hand" with the Wings this year.

I know they said nice things about "Mac" in the article, but does anyone know what kind of guy he really was? I remember reading some articles about Wirtz when he died, and a lot of them were talking about all the good that Wirtz did for hockey, for the Blackhawks, etc, etc and it was a little...off..in my opinion. I understand the respect. Whenever someone dies you only want to talk about the good they've done, but does anyone have the real story on this guy?
-
I hope youre not implying Game 1 was his first good game. He has 6 points in 7 games and some huge goals to boot.
-
I think what he meant was that he was OUR first pick in '04. Haha and I remember that draft day well. This board was bitching like CRAZY about how Holland and co. had picked the oldest guy in the bunch, how Franzen was probably a soft Euro even though he was 6'3, how theres a reason he was the oldest guy in the draft, off with Holland's head, etc.

Who plays the shutdown role for the Rags?
-
Hmm..I wonder if well go 4 for 4 on 4-3 being the outcome of all game 1s.

OH. MY. GOD. (Chandler Bing!). We should try and break it. That would be ******* sweet. Every 90 second break, a few octopi thrown. That would be insane. And it would be AWESOME press for hockey and for the Wings. Thats the type of stuff that could make the national news. "In other news, 89 octopi were invariably thrown to the ice during an NHL playoff game yesterday featuring the Detroit Red Wings and [insert Eastern Conference team here cause were going to the finals]" According to that article posted earlier, a boiled octopus is only 7 bucks. Thats definitely worth it.

Go hockey analysts just spew random crap aimlessly? I swear to god. All Ive been hearing is how good Theodore and MAF have played so far in the playoffs. But IMO, BOTH goaltenders faced the least threatening teams in the playoffs who were either abysmal at scoring all year round or were without keep players. Now once they face a team who can actually score, they blow up. I swear sometimes I think the majority of hardcore fans offer better insight and analysis than those who are actually getting paid to do so.

Thats why I dont have any sympathy for teams with injury issues. It wouldve been nice for Osgood not to have been injuried in 05-06, when Manny was playing like crap. It would've been nice to have a Steve Yzerman who was 100% in 2002. It would've been nice to have our #2 and #3 Dmen in the playoffs against Anaheim last year. You do what you can with what you have. Its part of the playoffs.

Similar hit stats? Wolski has more than twice as many. There are some people in the league who even use the term "budding power forward" with Wolski (although I wouldnt). Hes a much bigger physical presence than Hudler and to top it all off, if you talk to most Avs fans, they'll tell you Wolski had a snake-bitten year. Not to mention, Hudler saw 40 seconds more of PP time per game than Wolski did, likely due to Colorado's wicked offensive depth. Wolski is a stud, and Id take him on my team over Hudler every single day of the week and twice on Sundays. Interestingly though, Wolski has been much better in the playoffs than he was in the regular season this year a la Hudler. That being said, I WAS one of the people that supported Hudler playing in the playoffs. Never did I think he should get benched just because of his size. And likewise, with the way Hudler has played so far in the playoffs, I DO think it would be a big loss if he went down.

Hello!! Its using the Zettberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom line...!! ...or is it pairing up Filppula with Franzen? ...or is it putting Hudler with Draper for an unexpected offensive punch? ...or is it Kronwalls big hits?? ...Rafalskis complement to Lidstrom shot on the point?? ...Drakes awakening? ...Osgoods mental strength?? ...Our ability to throw out 70984 different line combinations game in and game out? ...Never running out of good PKers?? Honestly, I think Detroit needs to stop beating themselves. Cause when they decide to play, they can handle anyone. And no one can handle them.

Im not a big Maltby fan by any means. But hes not slow or soft or sloppy. He brings energy to the game and it seems to me, ever since Mac has been back on the squad, Maltbys been playing more like he did 5 years ago. Which makes sense. If one of my old buddies came back, Id want to remind him of what Im capable of. I think theres a little brotherly competition going on between Mac and Malts as of now. At any rate, with the way Mac, Downey, Helm, and Abdelkader have played for the Wings down the stretch, its good to not have any complaints about depth..

I believe it was Kipper and Lundqvist who ended up tied for third. Edit: wrong tender
-
Datsyuk and Zetterberg are not tied. Although its statiscally possible, there would be four nominees if two players were tied. That was the case last year when Kiprusoff, Brodeur, Lundqvist, AND Luongo were all nominated for the Vezina.

I agree that its too early, but like I said, its ironic that the Avs only got on their game when the Wings decided to lay back. That says to me if the Wings wanted to finish this series off in four games, they could. But the likelihood that they play a full 180 minutes over the next 3 games is unlikely for this team it seems. Which is really sad. With the way this team decides to play sometimes, itd practically be a walk to the finals. Too bad they dont bother holding leads or sticking with their game through three periods.

This is the best NHL.com headline: "Wilson casting his own shadow" As opposed to Wilson casting someone elses shadow??
-
The only thing that keeps my hopes up is that when Detroit pressed, they got 4 goals as a result. Only when they STOPPED PLAYING was Colorado able to start playing their game. If we're able to keep playing our game for a full 60 minutes, and not sit on any leads, we should be fine.

Although it would be pretty sick to see Datsyuk go home with the Byng, the Selke, the Conn Smythe, and the Cup.
-
Honestly Im surprised. Usually the voters for the Selke award are clueless and Datsyuk's defensive play has only been getting some talk around the league this season more or less. Usually it takes them more than a season to catch on to someones abilities. I really didnt think hed be nominated. That said, I wouldnt be surprised if Madden is the winner here.

Respect for Burke? Why because he stuck with a contract that he signed? Is that what qualifies for honorable these days? Next thing you know people are going to be calling Downie classy because he withheld from throwing a headshot when he had the chance to. Pure class! Sticking with a contract is the only thing he should do. Its not like hes getting paid a pittance to work in Anaheim. I suppose Niedermayer deserves a cookie for deciding to honor his contract too?

We're the team with the most playoff wins as of now, *******..
