Every team gets an advantage at home in terms of stats. Thats been going on since stats were kept track of. As for Drake, he didnt get soft cause he came to Detroit. He got soft cause he got old. Remember, this guy was bought out by the St. Louis Blues. If he were still one of the most feared hitters in the game at that point, hed have still had a spot on the squad..

But Datsyuk leads all forwards in the league in +/-!!!!!! (Pandolfo and Pahlsson, both nominees for last years Selke, were minus players)
-
Poetic Justice would Pronger taking out Campbell's son. I think thats probably the only case where both Campbell and Pronger would get f*cked.

Im seriously exhausted about being pissed off at Burke. From the goals arbitrarily not counting for Detroit when we play them, to the ludicrous call against Datsyuk in Game 5 of the series last year, to the bulls*** calls this year, the Niedermayer and Selanne free vacations, and now this, it literally wears you out. And then of course today on CBC they had a discussion about how Giguere rigs his shoulder pads so that when he goes down into the butterfly position, his shoulder paids raise up about 2 inches off his shoulders to cover up more of the net. Its getting hard to deny that theres not some sort of connection between Brian Burke and the NHL's front office. And Wings fans arent the only ones that have noticed. From the looks of messageboards around the net, everyone is pretty sick of it..

Then maybe Jody Shelley would finally grow back a pair of balls and give it to Pronger...

Anyone got Mike Danton's number??
-
Wow. Yup. Usually youd hear the typical bitching and whining from Burke. Right now hes thanking Campbell for the mandatory rest his captain is getting.

I think people need to realize that its not that the goalies that play like Roberto Luongo. Its that the Red Wings make them look that way. When we bring our offensive game, we have no problem. When we take 100 shots that miss, are blocked, or hit a goaltender in the chest, it doesnt bode well for us..

Hahaha, what a joke. Im suing for some wages if Im Chris Simon.
-
Seriously? Nashville guys? The Sharks are 8 points back and theyre on an 11 game winnng streak. Can we at least beat the non-playoff squads???? Geez... And excuse my french, but where the hell has Zetterberg been lately??
-
Why are people getting all defensive over this? Its not like Datsyuk is your first born son. My assertion is that he wont win it based on my reasoning, which is based on bureaucracy. Theres a ton of it in the NHL. Doesnt mean he wouldnt be a good choice, just means he wont win it. And I would bank on that. Hell be lucky if hes nominated honestly. And again, that doesnt mean I wouldnt love to see him win it.
-
Naturally it takes a long time to cover up and make excuses for the horrible judgement call in the first place, and then to also come up with an explanation as to why Prongers only going to miss 2 games as opposed to Simon's 30.
-
I would be satisfied with 15. He needs to miss a round of the playoffs. Its only fair. I think Chris Simon's statements will actually help with a Pronger suspension. He basically called them out on having a double-standard and theres really no way you can argue with his comments. Hes spot on. And it makes the NHL look reallllly bad. At least the NHL can still cover their asses by saying they couldnt tell with the crappy video they had, but now that they see the replay with better video, theyre able to make a better judgement. Its a great excuse for them..

Im calling Zetterberg to tie it.
-
By being the clear cut choice. Datsyuk is not. You could have 5 guys who are equally worthy of the Selke, and Datsyuk could be one of them, but he wouldnt win it simply put. His flashiness and his number of points in this case count against him. I can guarantee it.
-
Datsyuk wont win the trophy even if hes worthy of it. Theres a voting bias as with all trophies. Just like youre supposedly not worthy of the Hart if your team doesnt make the playoffs, youre also supposedly not worthy of the Selke if youre not a rough and tumble player. Same reason why Zetterberg couldve easily been nominated over Jay Pandolfo. Datsyuk would literally have to dominate the game defensivly a la Fedorov in order to win the Selke, whereas a guy like Mike Fisher or John Madden would just have to be "one of the better choices" to win it. IMO, its John Maddens to lose..

Haha. Thats funny. I heard Sens fans talking just the other day about how Mike Fisher is overrated defensively. Sens fans.

Haha classic. Legwand gets a DUI and now hes out with a foot injury? Looks like he was really pressing down on that accelerator..

Franzen is built like a tank. He could be the Swedish Dustin Brown if he wanted to. Id really like to see him put his body on the line a little bit more. Hes got the speed, the brains, and the body to rock all kinds of guys in this league. He could put guys like Kunitz and Ribeiro to sleep if he knew how to hit. Id LOVE to see the Wings work with him on that.

Im not saying its going to happen. But people here seem to think it will. And once the can of worms has been opened, its opened. Jay Bouwmeester is a perfect example. He leads the NHL in time on ice (bet you didnt know that!) and is a great young all around defenseman. If somebody really wants a kid like him - and theres plenty of teams whod love to have him - theyd easily throw 6M his way on a long-term contract.

Unless youre getting something better back in return.

You guys are on CRACK if you think Flip is going to get an offer sheet. First of all, teams dont go after small skill guys who can barely notch 40 points on the season. They go after players for TWO reasons. 1) A player has shown that he can be either a franchise player, or a damn good top liner: Thomas Vanek and Henrik Lundqvist are good examples of this, even though although a few teams were poised to throw an offer sheet Lundqvists way, he told his agent not to accept any because he only wanted to sign with the rags. 2) A player has shown that they can be a good player and still has lots of potential AND the team that player is currently on doesn't have the cap space to compete with a big offer: Dustin Penner. Filppula is neither of these things. Not even close. The Wings will have plenty of cap space to sign Filppula, and he's not so good that any team would offer something ridiculous like a 4.5-5M contract for him. If a team were to offer Filppula something like 3-3.5M, it would be far from the end of the world if Detroit had to match that offer, and if some team is so desperate that they want to offer Filppula a ridiculous offer, then that first rounder that they owe us is likely going to be a pretty high pick. I think you guys are overrating Flip just a bit when guys like Jay Bouwmeester, Corey Perry, Andrei Kostitsyn, MAF, and Mike Green could be had over him. If any team is going to go after a young forward with decent offense and good defense, itll likely be Vermette before Filppula..

Haha...I never thought about it like that. Holmstrom gets goals taken away from him for no reason, yet Pronger can stomp ankles and not even get a wrist slap.
-
Is this the same leg that had the broken foot? You know..the one he played on so he could be a little hero in the playoffs last year? If it is, I wouldnt be surprised if this is connected. Cant imagine that playing on a broken foot does a whole lot for your ankle either. Itll be interesting to see if he continues to have injury problems. Could we have another Eric Lindros on our hands?

Who do we WANT to play in the first round?

There was nothing to notice prior to the past month. He wasnt scoring, he wasnt hitting, and all around wasnt playing good hockey.
