Hes also pretty decent defensively, but like I said, he wont be anything more than a Jason Williams to this team, because hes simply not dynamic. Hes a very boring player who really doesnt excel at anything that the Wings dont already have. Really his claim to fame is his faceoff abilities, and that about it. Last time I checked that wasnt really a need for the Wings. Other than that, his youth, decent size and skating...none of this is outstanding. We need a guy thats either a sniper or a banger. He fits neither of these categories and frankly, Im sick of having inconsistent, mid to late 20 somethings who are in no way dynamic players fill up our ranks (willy, Sammy, Franzen, etc.). At this point, Id probably even take Federov over Stoll.
-
Im pretty sure he was saying that Filppula would be ok to trade, but Ericsson would not be..
-
Why are people so hung up on Stoll. I dont know why some people think hes gonna come here and suddenly be a 30 goal scorer. Hes a LAST RESORT at this point. You remember Jason Williams? Take out the nifty shootout moves and add a little size and you´ve got yourself Jarrett Stoll. Id rather add Chris Gratton if thats the case. I wouldnt be surprised if their goal totals arent that far off either for the season..and Im pretty sure Im right about that.

I cant believe this deadline...Somebody move already. I gotta say. The Wings OBVIOUSLY could use another Dman, and well get one, and it makes me wonder why we havent moved on one yet. The only thing that makes sense to me is that we´re in play for a really big name and want to see what we´ll have left over if we land the big fish..

As for all this, "Montreal and Ottawa are in the running for Hossa" pieces, they´re also claiming things like "Detroit is interested in Brian Campbell". Yes, lets please ignore the fact that it is not logical in ANY way for Detroit to want Campbell. A smallish, offenisve Dmen with little defensive awareness who would be a rental if not re-signed to the 6M plus contract he wants. NONE of that makes sense, so lets not trust every rumor that gets pumped out of the rumor mill..
-
Gainey was just quoted not even two days ago that Montreal fans "didnt have to worry about Chris Higgins being traded".
-
Yeah but what makes you think Hossa will sign with the team Waddell approves the trade for? Youve got things a little backwards. Team makes an offer. If Wadell likes the offer, he gives said team time to negotiate with Hossa. IF the negotiation goes well and a contract is put into place, THEN Hossa will be traded.
-
Jesus, I dont mind if we pass on Hossa...but for that? Please make it Prospal, Salei, and Gratton, thanks.
-
Bob McKenzie just announced that Ottawa and Montreal are in the lead to get Hossa. Although many think Ottawa is just in it to up the prices for Montreal...
-
And in other news, Anaheim can score again. Hossa? Please?

Anaheim would NOT be able to afford to Jokinen. If they wanted to add him, they would have to get a guy like Todd Marchants salary off the books (or maybe even a bigger one) within a week of acquiring Jokinen. So basicaly, they'd have less than 2 days to acquire Jokinen AND trade Marchant in order to LEGALLY attain Jokinen. There is this thing in the CBA called "tagging room", which means you have to have a certain amount of cap space available on next years payroll before you add more salary to the present years payroll. If you go over the tagging space, you have 7 days to move salary. Jokinen would put them well over that, so theyd have to almost immediately move some substantial salary..and I cant see anyone biting on Marchants paycheck..
-
How much do you think theyre gonna get for Jokinen?? The guy doesnt have infinite trade value. There is no team that is that desperate for Jokinen that they're going to pay out the ass for him. If Hossa only has Detroit and Montreal on the table for his longterm services and he doesnt care which team it is, Waddell is still going to hold up the deal in order to up the ante from one of the two teams...Theyll end up going for similar prices in the end, regardless of who goes from each end. Hell, there have already been enough Marleau for Jokinen trade rumors (straight up) swirling around. To think that guys like Higgins - who are already having better seasons than Marleau - PLUS a pick, PLUS an elite prospect are being put on the table for Hossa, theres no way teams are going to be shelling out significantly more than that for Jokinen.
-
Yay? Now, on the other hand, I heard Pitkanen was on the block.... Seriously though. Moreau is a heart and soul guy and Staios would be a great fit, but Stoll...he doesnt interest me in the least bit. I have a feeling hed be a grittier Jason Williams, and getting just as much flack here on LGW as Jason did. Pass..
-
Ericsson is my favorite too, but if it were to land that package....that shores up a LOT of our size/grit/physicality issues (for Salei and Jokinen)
-
It would be much more than a RENTED Hossa. It would be a little more than a longterm Hossa.
-
Flip, Ericsson, Top 10 Prospect, 1st, in 08, 1st in 09 for Jokinen and Salei I'd do it.
-
It depends on what Floridas asking price is. If its something similar to what were offering for Hossa, I can imagine it being done, but I still think it would cost more than that. There have to be a lot of teams itching to add Jokinen, especially at his price. But it would definitely be a dream to get all our needs addressed with a "Jokinen and Salei to Detroit for..."
-
Just to be clear on this whole "most of the teams who were after Sundin are after Hossa too", those "teams" include the likes of Anaheim and Ottawa, who canNOT get into a bidding war with teams who want to sign Hossa longterm as they do NOT have the cap space next year to do so. I think people need to learn not to believe everything they read. Just because somebody prints out a report that says "Ottawa and Anaheim are intersted in Hossa" doesnt mean its true. This crap has been printed left and right, and yet no one seems to stop and think about the logic of it. Hossa to Ottawa or Anaheim? not if Hossa wants to go longterm. Blake to Anaheim? Yes, cause they need another Dman, and one from their biggest rival no less. Brad Richards to Detroit? Yes, please, cause we can afford that contract for the next 4 years. Mats Sudin and Hal Gill to Detroit? He didnt even waive his clause....
-
1. Hossa's pricetag is bigger to begin with. He'll be brought on longterm. Sundin was a rental. 2. Brad Richards hit the market officially just yesterday. Add one, subtract one. Still the same.
-
Yup. Im with you on both accounts. Im not sure Anaheim was ever interested. IMO, the teams that are looking to add a big name forward and are willing to pay the price are (from rumors) San Jose, Ottawa, Dallas, Calgary, Montreal and Detroit. Burke says he doesnt add big names at the deadline. Ottawa has limited space for next year. San Jose is looking at a Dman - and needs one more than a forward. And Dallas is supposedly going hard after Brad Richards. That leaves Calgary, Detroit, and Montreal. And there are just as many "Tanguay to Montreal" rumors as there are "Hossa to Montreal" rumors. Calgary is so unsure of cap space next year that theyre already ready to ship of Tanguay - they cant possibly want to add a more expensive guy with Huselius and Langkow up as UFAs. So, IMO, that leaves Montreal and Detroit to battle it out with one another as two teams that CAN and WANT to add a forward to their roster NOT as a rental but as a big part of their future. And if, as Kenny says, Detroit isn't looking to add rentals but "continue his rebuilding process", then not only should Hossa be on Kennys radar, but Jokinen should be as well. And if both guys are up for grabs, with Detroit and Montreal looking like the two main teams wholl pony up for a first line forward thats signed for a few extra years, then I see no reason why Detroit cant snag one of the two.
-
Haha, I think youre overestimating this quite a bit. If there are 8 teams that were looking at Sundin and Hossa, there would still have been 7 teams looking at Hossa if Sundin went to a team. It would be one thing if there were 4 or 5 Sundins and they all said no, but lets be realistic here. The percentage hasnt changed that much. Not to mention, Brad Richards is now officially being shopped. Then theres also Tanguay and Jokinen. And to top it all off, now that Anaheim didnt add Sundin, maybe a team like San Jose will instead turn their focus from, say, Hossa and Stuart, to the bigger fish in Brian Campbell. And finally, as someone else said, Hossa does in effect have some control over where he lands. If a team is only willing to make an offer for me under the condition that he re-signs with them, and he knows he doesn't want to go with that team, all he has to do is refuse to sign longterm with him, and that team will have to look elsewhere.
-
Not unless they only want him for three months.
-
Personally, after his "we've been rebuilding since Steve Yzerman left" comment, you have to think hes going to use the trade deadline to add a player for his core. If youre still rebuilding, then you're still working on your core, which to me means he's going to add any or all of a top 4 Dman, a top 6 forward, or a high-profile third liner. Particularly on the back-end. Cheli will be out soon, Lilja is a journeyman, and Lebda isnt cutting it. We need that bona fide #4 physical Dman that has been so elusive for us over the past few years. Same thing with a scoring winger..
-
People are waiting for the chips to fall. And IMO, that starts with Sundin. He'll probably be the biggest name had at the cheapest price, because his future is so up in the air, so Im guessing teams are waiting to see who he goes to or if he goes before they go all in on guys like Jokinen, Tanguay, Hossa, and Campbell. And then after those guys have their deals in place (whether the trades are announced or not) then youll start to see the lesser players go, like Prospal, Satan, etc.

Go to spectorshockey.net. Spectors got a nice little search engine where you can search through the archived rumors. You'll find plenty of info related to Hossa's potential trade. Just make sure its not outdated..
