Articles like this are just to get people all in a tizzy. Look at the semantics here: "Boston Globe scribe Kevin Paul Dupont suggests that Hossa could aim for an eight-year, $64 million deal with plenty of money on the front end of the deal." Fact is, NO team that is a contender has 8M dollars to throw at Hossa, unless he wants to go to an up and comer.. I just noticed that the date of this article is January 21st

Hossa and Hank are your two main goal scorers in the top 6. Datsyuk is a passer first. Hank is about half and half, but when he passes the puck off, he usually hovers around the net looking for the rebounds. Hes got great hands around the net. Because of that I think Hossa and Hank should be split up, given that both are capable of 40 goals on a season. Ied be interesting to see our main pairings be Hank and Homer, and then Datsyuk and Hossa. Cleary/Franzen/Hudler could rotate on the left side. Hudler - Datsyuk - Hossa Cleary - Datsyuk - Hossa Franzen - Datsyuk - Hossa Franzen - Hank - Homer Hudler - Hank - Homer Cleary - Hank - Homer

Yeah, Id say Hossa and Salei would be on the mark. They fit into Holland's "weve been rebuilding since Steve Yzerman left" comments. Im not sure Fedorov would though...

You should really start paying attention to the SEASON and not just the past two lousy games. And offense has EVERYTHING to do with whether or not we play our starter. If you don't think the Wings have issues up front, then you've got some issues yourself..Then again, Ive seen some of the posts you've made lately, and its pretty self-explanatory. And if you want to talk about recently, then theyve scored a whole 6 goals in the last 5 games.

Yeah because one time means recurring. And because if Anaheim loses Schneider...they'll be s*** out of luck only having Nidermayer, Pronger, and Beauchmin to pick up his slack on the point. At any rate, its looking good on the front in terms of Anaheim making a big move. Spector brought up a comment Burke made last year about not being a big believer of adding big names a the deadline, so hopefully he wont be in the hunt for the Sundins and Hossas of the league..

I dont buy that. Unless the Wings get Lapointe for something like future considerations, I cant see the Wings going after him. Hes no different from Drake, Downey, or even Mac at this point in his career. IMO, if we add a 3rd/4th line guy, itll be someone like Gratton or similar. Someone that can still provide the physical, energetic, intangibles, but might be able to contribute the odd goal as well..

When he was a free agent...two off-seasons ago I wanna say...there was talk that Detroit was interested in landing him, but at the time I think Florida offered him more than we were willing to. They offered him 3M per season, which Detroit wasnt going to match considering their #2 in Schneider was making 3.3M himself..

Our offense is really reeling. And why not? As of now, we have 3 top 6 forwards, and thats it. Cleary returning and adding Hossa would be key. Salei would really help us out on the back end...

It always seems like the east is a bigger playoff battle than the West? Why? Cause they all play at the same mediocre level of hockey?? Dallas, Detroit, Anaheim, hell even a team like Phoenix could feed probably 75% of Eastern teams their lunch in the playoffs...if not all of them. The West is a grind. The East is a cakewalk. Look at Buffalo. They got through the first round of the playoffs last year without even trying..and thats by their own admission. Look at Ottawa versus Anaheim. Anaheim plowed over "the best team in the East". And before that, when teams like Carolina and Tampa were winning it, the western teams were limping into each round, after having played tons of grinding, defensive hockey, while the Eastern teams came in having played through blow outs..

They have lost young stud? They lost McDonald..who was far from a stud...and Penner too, who hasnt put up many more points than Bert has this year. And yeah, they may be 30th in goal scoring, but they played the majority of the year withOUT Niedermayer, Selanne, and Sundin if they add him. Any team that can boast of having Schneider, Niedermayer, Pronger, Beauchemin, Giguere, Selane, Sundin, Bertuzzi, Getzlaf, and Perry basically has no weaknesses. Selanne and Perry are big goal scorers, theyve got 3 of the best offensive Dmen in the game, 2 top 5 defenders, young talent in all areas, a ton of grit, a lot of speed, leadership, energy, defensive forwards, energy forwards, enforcers... YES. IF Anaheim were to add Sundin, they would have bascially no weaknesses. They take a lot of penalties? Do you think they care when they have the likes of Pronger, the Niedermayer brothers, Pahlsson, and Giguere to throw out there?? I think not. Especially when half the time theyre penalized, its because theyve physically hurt an opposing player..

HOSSA WOULD NOT BE A RENTAL!!!!!!! Jesus christ, the only thing unsettling here is how people can't seem to get it through their heads that Hossa coming to Detroit hinges on his NOT being a rental. My god... On the other hand, Hossa signed to a long-term contract sounds exactly like the type of move youd make if you were "in rebuilding mode". Salei and Stuart fit that bill as well

I'm not gonna lie..when I read that TSN scouting report about how Salei can go a little overboard with his hits and his physical play...I get a little excited. Its been a long time since we've had a little dirt in the lineup, a guy that would pull out all the stops to rough some people up...

I created a monster!!

Hes a deflection machine. What is there to deflect when your point men shoot the puck into the legs of penalty killers or wide of the net?? Im not worried about him. Hes always been streaky. Hes already had 4 or 5 goals taken away from him already this season. Hell still hit 25, maybe 30 if he gets hot like he can. Thats about right for him. Hard to call out one guy when all of our forwards are ice cold..

Jokinen going to Montreal makes most sense if you ask me. Goal scoring center..Higgins is great and all, but not a #1, and Koivu is really on his last legs..
-
Yeah thats how I look at the situation. Besides, if we have Hossa for 5 years, Flip will be up for free agency at that point, so its possible that we would/will have only had Flip for the next 5 years too. Just a thought...

I dont usually like TSNs scouting reports, but heres a guideline Stuart: Assets - Is a very gifted skater and makes excellent outlet passes. Has a heavy shot that can be very effective on the power play. Flaws - Is prone to mistakes in pressure situations, which has led him into the coach's doghouse in the past. Doesn't use his size effectively enough. Salei: Assets - Plays a mean and nasty game from behind the blueline. Can hit with the very best in the game. Is well liked in the locker room. Flaws - Does go overboard with his hits on occasion, resulting in discipline issues. Will occasionally make bad decisions with the puck in the defensive zone.

Ive been saying this all along, and I like Stuart, but everyone on here is going to be very disappointed when Stuart shows up and isnt the nasty, hard-hitting, all out physical Dman a lot of people here expect him to be. On the one hand, youll hear how Salei played some solid hockey for the Ducks in the earlier runs. On the other, you'll hear how Stuart didn't nearly live up to expectations in Calgarys run just last year. Now, I would fully welcome Stuart on this squad, because he is big and he is gritty. But hes not overly physical. Think Canada's Danil Markov. Ruslan Salei is known for his hitting and for his mean streak. Hes fierce. Hes experienced. Hes a bulldog. I remember when Detroit played against him in Anaheim in 2003, and god was he a thorn in our side. I can remember him taking our forwards down behind the net left and right. And his position at #4 on the wings, playing alongside Nick or Raffi is exactly the ideal type of situation he should be in...Not to mention those 2 extra years on his contract at a reasonable price are fine by me..

Chelios has small chip in fibula, could be out a few days.

A chipped fibula wasn't enough of a break for you? -
Kenny never makes huge deal? Kenny has been working under the salary cap for all of TWO seasons. At the first deadline, we added Cross - basically nothing. At the second deadline, we added Bertuzzi and Calder - two middle of the road trades. Neither of those deadlines are remotely comparable, and yet youre gonna judge Hollands entire mentality by all of two deadlines?? Whose to say that at this deadline, he doesnt keep going bigger and add a Hossa player, or at least two substantial additions like Prospal and Salei??
-
He doesnt want to test the market. He wants to sign long term with a winner.
-
A unit like that wouldve single-handedly won us Game 5 against Anaheim last year. We had what..3 blown 5 on 3 opportunities in the game??
-
The guys a 40 goal scoring winger who is defensively responsible and uses his strength and power effectively. Very smart player with loads of skill. There arent any North Americans who fit that bill and can hit and fight too, unless youre willing to part with Zetterberg or Datsyuk to get them.
