Players Linked to Wings for Deadline

I think thats actually a little much for Prospal and Gratton, given how deep the draft is this year. Hudler for Prospal straight up is a fair deal, when you take into account Hudler's contract status (re-signed for another year on the cheap and an RFA after that = theyll have him for a while). Meech for Gratton straight up is actually pretty close too, but Id throw in a 5th to put us over the top. Id like to see Detroit use that 2nd rounder (plus a lower tier prospect) to land Stuart. Or if Holland really wanted to go big, use Quincey and a 1st to land Blake.

..Just like no GM wanted to have anything to do with Dan Cleary? And why not blame Wilson and the Toronto media? Its not like they havent been responsible for players underperforming in the past...

See, thats exactly the type of thinking I'm going with. Everybody always wants to trade for the stud, but that costs a lot, and even then doesn't always pan out. Getting Bell would hardly ruin the franchise, and under a coach like Babcock - good with youngsters and getting players to perform to their potential - I think he could find a home here. Im not asking the guy to come here and score 25 goals a season and throw down every other game, but no doubt the kid can be a force out there. Hes still fairly young and, IMO, hes got something to offer. Ron Wilson is good at ruining careers, and no doubt Bells got next to zero confidence playing on that crappy Toronto team with a vicious media like they have, not to mention his own personal problems. IMO, Bell just needs to go to a team where he can hear his coach say "look, just go out there, give us some energy, and use that big body." If you think about it, Bell's best years were when NOTHING was expected of him over in Chicago. Id be willing to bet that on a team like Detroit, he could score 15 goals at least. Theres something about being on a team with veteran depth and superstars in their prime that seems to assuage the fears of younger players whose careers have gone awry. I think Bell could be our next Cleary..

    1. Todd Bertuzzi? 2. Larry Murphy? 3. Robert Lang? You were saying?

    Senators acquire Stillman and Commodore

They needed an offensive Dman bad, and Corvos not too bad in that regard. Hes decent at running the point. And no doubt hell get mad time on the PP over in Carolina. He could thrive there... Still, the Sens win this one hands down, unless Eaves blossoms in Carolina. Commodore was my #1 choice for the Wings to get, but we all know a Carolina-Detroit trade wont happen in a million years...

Wings need 3 new players to win Cup

I dont care what Burke wants, if it comes down to Holland and Burke being in the running for Blake, then I say Blake goes to Detroit. Why? Because Holland knows that the road to the cup goes through Anaheim, and thus I think hell bid for Blake accordingly. If it were any other team Detroit was competing with for Blakes services, I would say Holland backs off and doesnt get into a bidding war over Blake, because another team adding Blake (NYR, SJ, etc) still wont put them at Detroits level. But in the case of Detroit outbidding Anaheim, landing Blake accomplishes TWO things. It steals Anaheims opportunity to have the undisputed best defense in the league in god knows how many years AND it improves Detroits squad. Holland simply cannot afford to let Anaheim improve significantly anymore, and letting them get Blake would do just that. Of course, all of this is contingent upon Sundin and Hossa not being available and/or not going to the Ducks or Wings. Because if Detroit lands one of those two, theyll be no opportunity to get Blake as well. Same goes for Anaheim.

Neil would be a dream, so thats not going to happen, and I doubt McGrattan would see much ice time, although that idea is starting to grow on me. I just dont see it happening either. Gratton is probably our best option, although he doesnt really strike fear in anyone, but Id welcome any of those guys here. What are our options for Dmen that can drop em??

I hope everyones on the "we need to add depth" bandwagon after tonights game, cause we missed plenty of chances to put the Ducks away due to a PP that was decimated by injuries..

    It's Time For Change

Okay everybody CHILL OUT!!! We played a good game. No need to dismantle the team. Everyone just needs to relax for a second and back off from the ledge. I just hope everyone realizes that a few depth additions do need to be made..because you just got a perfect view of what being without our #4 forward and our #3 Dman is going to do to our team, particularly our PP..

    Double Standard

That wouldve been Homers 25th goal of the season, as it was his 5th goal thats been waived off this year..

    2/10 GDT: Ducks 3, Red Wings 2

Who would we replace him with?

When has it been necessary for Downey to fight yet? You dont need him to fight when your team is up or progressively getting stronger. If the Ducks score the next goal and the Wings dont have any momentum, then yes, but that time hasnt come yet..

    2/10 GDT: Ducks 3, Red Wings 2

Yeah well, thats gonna happen with Meech and Chelios on the ice as your D pairing. And people dont think we need to add a Dman..

Prospal will cost us more than Malone, Blake will cost us more than Staois. Stuart, Gratton and Lapointe would come cheapest. Holik would be slghtly more expesive than those guys. Sunidn and Hossa will obviously be the most expensive. I would like to see one of these packages: Blake/Malone/Gratton Staios/Prospal/Holik Sundin/Stuart/Lapointe Hossa/Carney/Holik In return I can see any of Hudler, Quincey, Meech, Kopecky, and picks.

So are we gonna get beat by the 2 worst teams in the league in 3 days or what?

woah...step back from the ledge guys..

    Lang Talk. Good God NOOOOO.

Add this rumor to the B.S. pile...Theres no way in hell Hollands even interested.

    Red Wings top trade bait

Hudler + Quincey + a 1st rounder is a pretty good deal for anyone...maybe not competitive enough, but still as a package or separately, those pieces should be able to attract something nice. Two cheap, young, NHL ready players is a good deal for anyone..

    Red Wings top trade bait

Nope. Lebda was slated to play up front, but never ended up playing a shift at forward..
  20. YoungGuns1340

Who would you take, solid 2nd liner, or Dman.

Actually, hes been rumored all season to be on the block...

    Red Wings top trade bait

Dont get me wrong, Im no fan of Sammy, and I have my "trade Sammy!" moments, but I just think the guys gets the short end of the stick around here...if Holland really wanted to place emphasis on grit/size, Sammy could easily be traded for a third liner with those credentials. Sammy DOES have value. That said, I think Im with you. Id probably prefer to keep Sammy at this point, and instead trade Hudler for a bigger impact return than what Sammy would get us...

I wonder if... I know a couple seasons ago the Wings were looking to make a trade for Antropov. I doubt hes on the block for Toronto as hes fairly cheap and young and one of the few bright spots on Toronto this season, but you never know... And as much as he has unerperfomed the last few seasons, if were looking at a guy like Martin Lapointe, I see no reason why we shouldnt go up a step and take a look at Mark Bell. Hes signed for next season, but on nhlnumbers.com, it says his cap hit is only 1.8M. The worst that could happen is he continues to slump, yet still brings size, physicality, and he drops the gloves. I could easily see him good for 15 goals, 40 points if he were on the Wings full time. And he might be a good option to replace Frazen, considering Franzen might test the market (especially when you think back to how tough it was to re-sign him last time). Another not very talked about option for scoring is Radim Vrbata, although last I heard Phoenix wanted to lock him up, and that might be the case, consiering theyve played so well lately.. Other "off-the-radar" options: Martin Havlat - another year at 6M and is injury prone, but he can dominate the games he plays in and he is on the block in Chicago, rumored not to cost too much.. Jarrett Stoll - RFA after this season. Has underperformed but has good skill, is a great faceoff guy, and wouldnt cost much to re-sign after this season. Would be a pretty low-risk move. Tim Connolly - another year at 2.9M. Oft-injured, but very skilled and a great skater. Still young, but I'm not sure his offensive output is enough to off-set his injury history. Similar situation to Havlat.. Kristian Huselius/Daymond Langkow/Alex Tanguay - Calgary would really have to go in the s***ter these next couple weeks for them to want to trade off any of these guys, especially to the Wings, but any of these guys IMO would be a great fit here.. Andrew Brunette - Don't know if the Avs would trade with us, but stranger things have happened. Brunette would be a good depth player, and he's had some clutch playoff moments in the past. Colorado is so deep up front that if Sakic/Stastny/Smyth come back before the deadline, he could be an option.. Bobby Holik - Hes having a decent year with Atlanta, and would be good for depth. Hes still a bulldog in the corners and definitely plays with a mean streak. Id definitely prefer him to Martin Lapointe at this point. Brian Gionta - 1 more year at 4M. Wouldnt address the size/grit issue, but why not if he were brought in to replace/traded for Hudler. No loss of size there...Hes rumored to be on the block, which is why I put him here..i think he would thrive in Detroit, but other moves would still have to be made to address grit/size up front.. I would add Raffi Torres, but who knows how long hell be out with that knee injury. Id LOVE to see him come here in an off-season trade though. I know a lot of these names seem far-fetched or really random, but that always seems to be the nature of Ken Holland's trades. Seems everyone thinks they know what he'll do, and then he goes off and trades for someone no one even thought of....

The reason I say not to give up Hudler for Malone is because Id rather see Hudler used as a package to land something bigger (Hossa, Blake, Sundin). But naturally, if we lost out on those type of guys, I personally wouldnt have a problem giving up Hudler for Malone...and maybe a pick since Hudler is re-signed cheaply and Malone is a UFA.

    Red Wings top trade bait

Why do people think Sammy cannot be moved. Are you guys really serious?? Regardless of what he returns, he could EASILY be moved. Hes not stupid. Hes not small. Hes not slow. Hes not expensive. He doesnt have a bad attitude. Hes not skill-less. Hes not a defensive liability. Wings fans are so spoiled. You all want every player to make huge hits, block shots, score 25 goals a season, play the PK and PP admirably, and have a bullet for a shot. Well I hate to break it to you, but not many teams have a 7-8 forward who does that. Theyre called depth players for a reason, and as such, they are only supposed to fill in the gaps. Sammy does exactly that. On other teams, Sammy would probably be playing the PK. And the PP (in a better utilized position). Hed probably be getting more minutes than he is here, and hed probably break the 50 point barrier by seasons end. If he stays healthy, he will break 40 points, which is very admirable for a guy whos making 1.2M a year. If I had more time, I bet I could find at least 25 other forwards in this league who are making more than 1.2M and are producing less than Sammy...

I keep forgetting about him. Hes really seemed to have picked up his game now that Crosby has been out. Maybe its been the increased ice time?? Id really like to see Detroit make a pitch for him. Not at the price of Hudler - I dont think a free agent Malone would even fetch Hudler - but Malone is one player Id like to see Detoit pull out some stops for..
