This game is inexcusable. The talent is there, the effort is not. No injuries, we know theres chemistry. The team just didnt show up. No excuses for a loss like this.

Mike Greens defensive game is pretty poor. Who knows if we would have drafted Green. Hes definitely not Hollands type of player as is. Lang was the leading scorer at the time. It took a lot to get him. Its not like were in desperate need of offensive defenseman, now or in the future. If we did have Mike Green, hed still be playing for the Griffins right now. Adding Lang was a good deal, considering he did exactly what we signed him to do for at least two years - provide offense and show up for the playoffs. It was the rest of the team that was the offensive bust in the playoffs, not Lang. And finally, there are a billion and a half scenarios out there where teams draft good players with other teams picks. Happens every draft year. Its part of the game, and believe it or not, Detroit has done it too.

Um...what? Kopecky has value but Sammy doesnt? Go ahead and take a look at how many players have less than 23 points on the season and are making a hell of a lot more than Sammy. I can think of several just off the top of my head. Sammy has a lot more trade value than some of you think. The reason he hasnt been traded yet is because Detroit doesnt need to move him. I cant stand Sammy on this team because we already have so many players like him. But on almost any other team, hed be a welcome scoring depth addition.
-
Depth is where its at. Detroit showed what they could do sans Hank and without both Homer and Hank (and Maltby) through a handful of games, and they kept on plugging. So far, Ottawa is 0 for 1.
-
Lecavalier loves playing with him. Vinny went to Feaster and specificaly requested to have TB try and get him back. I doubt he goes anywhere, although hes far from unneccessary and would fit in great with Detroit...
-
If thats the case, the Bhawks win that trade in a landslide. Ruutu has been rough this year. And most years. And Chicago has young scoring aplenty in Toews, Kane, and Sharp, with Williams, Lang, and every so often Havlat to boot.

Who? Who is this Downie you speak of...?
-
People have such short memories. By Lebda, Holland, and Babcocks own admission, had it not been the playoffs, Lebda wouldnt have been playing on that gimpy ankle of his from the Langkow collision... ..and whoever said Meech is better than Lebda is seriously on crack. If that were the case, Meech would be #5, not #7
-
Which is probably why I was responding to somebody elses comment about Commodore, and proceeded to say the same thing you did... And for whoever said we should trade Lebda, thats a terrible idea. The guy is solid and can skate in anybodys league. His speed alone can make up for a lot of goals. Hes exactly the type of guy that gives your depth strength, and your checkbook some space. No way to sending off Lebda unless its for a dominant piece a la Hossa or Sundin...

Sammy and his $2M odd? Try $1.2M. Sammys only problem is that peoples expectations of him are too high. Hes provides exactly what youd expect from a sub 1.5 million dollar player. Sometimes more. And Im not even a fan. Tuckers contract is an albatross, and hes only had one season to warrant that contract, which is Torontos specialty - ignoring the typical play of a player, and then paying for a career year apparently without knowing how to negotiate much. If he can get healthy again, Id take a chance on landing Torres. Hes actually capable of 20 goals year to year if hes healthy while brining a devestatingly physical game..

Blake as an addition is a terribe idea. Seriously. Grass is always greener on the other side, but theres a reason Kings fans have wanted Blake gone nearly since his return to LA. Hes terrible in nearly every aspect these days. Personally, Id like to see Detroit add Commodore, buts hes practically their #1 guy on the Canes. They love him there and Carolina is far from out of it. And to top it off, Karmanos making Illitch's team better? Fat chance of that happening... Personally, Id love to see the Isles tank. Up front, Satan, Comrie, or Hunter would be a big help. On the back end, Id love to have Witt even though hes signed for more than a year.

Homer with the GWG
-
Kronnic has a new career high in points with 23. Hes on his way to a 40 point season if he keeps this up.
-
I still cant figure out why people think we should trade Hudler. Hes small blah blah blah. Hes clutch and he brings it. Yeah, we should definitely trade Huddles before Franzen.
-
In typical wings fashion, they bomb the games that the whole world is watching..
-
He doesnt even like Lidstrom all that much...
-
The grass is always greener on the other side. Ask anyone outside of Wings fans who has the best management team in the NHL. Theyll tell you its Detroit in a landslide..
-
Its Franzen and theres no question. I love how people want to give up Hudler. Hes small, but that hasnt slowed him down one bit. Theres absolutely no reason to give up a guy that will easily hit the 50 point mark who has mad skills, has shown hes got the drive to improve his skills (see the skating drills he did to improve his stride), and isnt afraid of going to the hard places. Huds is a competitor, no doubt, and a cheap one for another year. Plus hes young and hungry. You want more physicality in the lineup? Do it at the expense of 1) Sammy and 2) Franzen, who IMO has been a disappointment in terms of physicality. Dont get me wrong, Im a Franzenstein fan more than a Hudler fan, but its not hard to see whos more essential to the team. The way I see it, it could cost us up to 4M to replace a skill guy who can net 60 points like Hudler can and maybe will even this season. It would probably cost us 2M to replace a 15 goal, 35 point guy who brings some size..

JFJ is an idiot I will give you that. And my bad..I see now that these were only suggestions. Still I stand by my original assessments. LA doesnt need another crap goaltender. Cloutier? Labarbera? now Raycroft? Enough of that crap. As for Mccabe, Toronto couldnt give him and his albatross of a contract away. Vlasic is the better Dman now anyways. As for Tucker, a lot of teams wanted him a couple years ago when he looked like a 30 goal man. Now hes lost all of that and more..
-
Dmen/Goalies of West >>>>>> East Forwards of West <<< East
-
Smart, smart move for either team. Im guessing its San Jose but Calgary needs him equally. Wasnt it SJ that just waived Patzold? Maybe this has something to do with it..
-
mccabe for vlasic? Why the hell would San Jose want to take on Mccabe who is injury prone at this stage, terrible defensively, and has a bloated contract for a cheap, smart, young Dman who is better defensively already? Why does LA need another crappy subpar goalie? They should be cutting payroll and adding picks/prospects anymore, not taking on players who are expensive for their crappy play... Then they can just automatically snag Hossa and Redden and re-sign Sundin? And who said St. Louis wanted Bell? Kubina has been one of Torontos better Dmen this year... The flames add Tucker? WHY? Hes terrible nowadays and Calgary doesnt need to replace Conroy. Hes like a brother to Iginla and hes cheap. He goes nowhere.. Sorry bro, but this is kind of arrogant of you to think turning around a franchise is as easy as this. If it were this easy, JFJ wouldve done that by now.
-
Foote is my number 1 choice for the big physical Dman category. Blake? No hes terrible these day. Foote is still a presence for the BJs and they like him there. In fact, they want to sign him to an extension, so he may be harder to get than we think..

Somebody queue the twilight zone music. This game is weird...

Salaries arent going astronomically higher because of this. There are MAYBE a handful of guys who are worth what Ovechkin is, and I would argue there are really only 3 (Luongo, Crosby, Lidstrom). Heatley, Spezza, Getzlaf, Ribeiro, etc all fairly signed reasonable contracts and will be used as measuring sticks more often than Ovechkin.
