Why do half the people here seem to think they know something that management doesn't? Im sure Holland and Babs are very aware that if McCarty cant play at the NHL level, then he wont play for the Red Wings. If McCarty can eventually hack it better than Ellis, Downey, or Hartigan, hes got a spot on the team. If he cant, he doesnt. No need to get worked up over something that is purely conditional and in no way a given.

THIS YEAR so far Id take Kovy and Ovy over Crosby.
-
Is it bad that Im more intersted in Detroit acquiring Sundin to keep him away from others than to actually get him? Id rather detroit get others in a more spread out fashion...
-
Fixed. Its a nice statement, but why the hell not accept a trade to a place where you have a great chance of winning, which will in turn give the Leafs some great prospects, which in turn will improve your team that you have the option of returning to. Im betting if management approaches him about a good trade to Detroit, hed do it. After all, if he loves the team so much, why not facilitate a trade that would be in the Leafs best interest. PS. There have been a lot more recent developments in the Sundin trade situation in recent weeks, and they all point to management wanting to trade him.

One point a lot of people seem to be missing: Sundin LOVES Toronto. He doesnt want to leave. Hell probably want to re-sign with Toronto, but if Toronto does approach him about being traded, you can be damn sure that he'll have a VERY short list of teams Toronto can work with. Im talking 3 or 4 teams. If hes loathe to even talk about a trade, theres no way hes going to the team that may or may not be a contender. IMO, hes gonna want to go to a team where he doesnt have to complete the puzzle, but can put that team over the top. Youre talking about Detroit, Ottawa, maybe Anaheim and Dallas. Its doubtful Toronto gives Sundin to a big rival, and its doubtful Anaheim has the space while Dallas itself is a longshot. And you can be sure the mini swedish all-star team will help with that. Im not saying hes only going to accept a trade here, but I dont think hes gonna want to head off to San Jose where their defense is inexperienced and their offense nearly non-existant, for example. Dont get me wrong, Detroit will still have to give up a lot, but the reduced competition will definitely help. That being said, its gonna have to be something like a 1st rounder (probably a sub 25 pick at best) a conditional 1st or 2nd, contingent upon where Detroit lands in the playoffs One of Smith or Kindl One of Mursak, Ryno, or Emmerton. IMO, thats fine by me. Dont get me wrong, I love those guys, but one of the reasons you have prospects is precisely for occasions like this. If we traded Kindl, I still like the look of a squad in 5 years that features Rafalski, Kronwall, Lebda, Smith, Ericsson, Quincey, plus UFAs for example. If we traded Mursak, Id still like the look of a forward corps that featured Hank, Datsyuk, Filppula, Hudler, Ryno, Axelsson, Emmerton, plus UFAs. Id take a cup over the potential of a prospect any day. I think the Wings are as close as you can get to a Stanley Cup right now, and Sundin would be a ridiculous addition to the squad.

Minnesota wont be trading him? If hes so important, why exactly is he been a healthy scratch several times already this season? Hes lost more than a couple steps and is not what he was when he manhandled the Wings offense in 04. If the Wings wanted to trade for him, they shouldnt offer more than a 3rd/4th round pick. At this point in Carneys career, Id probably even take Lilja over Carney.
-
Im guessing Grittzkey missed that season where Zetterberg single-handedly carried Homer and Sammy to then career years.
-
Attitude/Work Ethic, which starts with Babcock Team Chemistry - this is probably the most gelled team in the entire league.
-
Amen Bro. Those of you with the hard ons for Malone and Orpik need to take a second and wonder why it is the Pens have been trying to trade Malone for 2 years plus, and also why Orpik has been a healthy scratch for a lot of games this season. These guys might be nice additions, but at the expense of guys like Lebda and Hudler? Youre all cracked out... Also, you guys need to check who youre trading. Drake? Lilja? none of those guys have any pull. Adam Foote for Kyle Quincey and a 2nd round pick Mike Comrie, 4th rounder for Mikael Samuelsson, a 1st round pick, Derek Meech Kopecky for Chris Gratton Flip - Datsyuk - Cleary Hudler - Hank - Homer Franzen - Comrie - Gratton Maltby - Drapes - Drake Downey Lidstrom - Kronner Raffi - Foote Lebda - Cheli Lilja
-
I dont care if the line stays intact or not, but theres absolutely no reason this team cant add another scorer to give us 3 scoring lines. Franzen-Comrie-Sammy? Not too bad if you ask me.
-
Seriously, if you really watched Red Wings hockey, you'd know that Lidstroms shooting percentage is always skewed because more than half the time he takes a shot, its intentionally wide to make the bounce of the boards play, yet statisticians usually count it as a shot taken.

I hope you arent serious. There is no WAY in hell that the Kings do ANYTHING to make the Ducks better. They arent just some inter-divisional rival - they compete for fans and media attention. When it comes to the Kings and Ducks, trading between the two meas a lot more than player movement. It also means business movement. Theres a reason analysts have already insinuated that LA would WANT to trade with a team like Dallas or Detroit, as they feel these teams have a good chance to knock Anaheim off its pedestal, which can perhaps balance out the playing field a bit in terms of media and fan attention when it comes to these two cross-town rivals.

Doesnt matter if hes smallish. Hes smallish like Steve Thomas was smallish. Hes still got great assets - hes physical and hes very fast...and hes got the skills to make it on this team. I think its been made very clear that big lumbering forwards dont work out in the Wings system anymore. If were gonna get big forwards, they need to be good skaters with hands, which limits our options.
-
Yeah, those are three guys that would be absolutely sick. All gritty, 2 of 3 are big, and at least one fights regularly. Thats a lot more sandpaper in the lineup, but I dont think wed have the assets to land all three. Witt would probably cost more too considering hes got another year on his contract, I think.
-
The crowd loves Ozzie.
-
I completely agree, NFM.
-
What happened there? All kinds of miscommunication. Oh well. Ozzies still made some ridiculous saves tongiht. And hell probably face upwards of 25 shots tonight.
-
DATSYUK!!!!! What a Homerish goal!
-
LIDS! (or Datsyuk?)
-
Half the time when I see Downey skating around, I think its Lang. They share the same number...but they also share the same lumbering skating speed.
-
No homer, no maltby, and a newly returned Zetterberg isnt exactly full tilt either, especially where the PP is concerned.
-
Honestly, with Babs I have no idea. The last thing I want to hear is another "Osgood is playing great, but Manny/Dom is our starter". I really dont give two s***s what the name on the back of the jersey is. If the play is there, and they have the swagger to handle the playoffs - which we know both tenders do - then they should be in net. As of now, that player is Osgood is hands down. While Dom has definitely been playing better, hes still good for a questionable goal almost every game. Those goals can lose you an entire series in the playoffs. If Im an unbiased coach, I choose Osgood hands down.

The guys put together like 15 monster games in a row. Hes allowed to have an off night every once in a while.
-
Mad props to the linesman. That was a quick eye to see that that puck was shoveled in with a glove.
-
Bochenski? Hes underperformed so far, but hes showing decent potential.
