Should Pavel and Hank stay on the same line?
YoungGuns1340 replied to datsyuk_13_fan's topic in General
Im pretty confident well be seeing at least a mid-level splash to add a name up front. The Wings Brass has to do something to gets some good press, cause these attendance stats just arent gonna cut it. Illitch will do something to make the Wings exciting again. -

I said this all through the off-season, and people gave the whole "putting all your eggs in one basket / teams putting their top defenders out against them" spiel. People were so quickly to forget that when the DZH line was dominating, they WERE playing against top defensemen and defensive forwards. Theyre still just that good. Keep them together for as long as we can. They'll tear it up and give us a chance to win every night. -
I just saw that replay, and it looked an awful lot like Hank tipped that goal past the line just to make sure. If somebody has it Tivoed, they should check it out. It looked really close.

Shoot it FliP!!

Carolina has 5 forwards on the PP because they have pathetic excuses for offensive defenseman.
-
Canucks have a great defense.

Im completely lost as to why people are so worried about the offense with this club. We're averaging 3 goals a game. Granted, one of those came from an EN, but its still not nearly as bad as it could be. The problem is with the defense and letting teams get back into the game after we already have them out by two goals. You have to give the guys time to get settled into their lines. The top 2 lines had to be reworked after 1.5 games had been played...and theyve barely played consecutive games featuring the same top 6 combinations. Lets wait to freak out when we cant pot 2 goals a game.

Nice win. 2 more points for Hank. Now lets see him get some goals.

Im sorry but I dont see the Wings suffering from the effects of this "grenade" Burke is talking about. Hes the guy that blew nearly 6M per season on an increasingly injury-prone 38 year old guy who hasnt even made his Duck debut yet. And that was before this whole Penner scandal. The team and the league seems to be functioning quite well this season, with a lot of exciting, high scoring, and/or close games being played.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time - if ever - did Tootoo throw down fairly?? He never seems to wait for the other guy to even get his gloves off before he starts wailing on him. If I had to guess, Id say it was a defense mechanism. If Tootoo fought man to man, hed be hurtin. The guy who sucks? You mean Lapperiere?? Hes about a good an energy guy as it gets, and is an old school fighter. Id take him over tootoo anyday.

Oh my god. ONE game and people are concerned about the 1st line?? Jesus, its not like theyre glued together. If it does become and issue - which Im not quite sure how you can be so worried after one game against a very good goaltender and a team with great team defense - then you put Hank with Datsyuk and Homer. I know people will bring up the "yeah but then teams will just use their top pairings against that line and we'll be screwed" bit. But give your head a shake and realize that that line WAS playing against top pairings when it was tearing it up. Theyre just that good. We have nothing to worry about.

Honestly, excuse the language, but I am so ******* sick of this bulls*** "hockey attendance = fan interest" bit. The media is so quick to rag on Michigan for its poor economy, the failing auto industry, and how dangerous, ugly, and boring the city of Detroit is, yet they think its crazy that people would rather stay home and watch the game than go to the arena? You cant play it like that. Maybe if Detroit had more of a safer night life and a more exciting one closer to the Joe area youd see more people interested in actually attending the games. But I, for one, have always liked going to the games and watching them on TV equally. And being a Red Wings fan is practically a lifestyle for me, so the media can take articles like this and shove them up their asses.

Hockey is a blue collar sport, and the blue collar folks are the ones suffering from the economy. Basketball games are filled with a bunch of preppy high school/college kids who love the hip hop feel of the game, anyone will go to a baseball game because its an all american sport (especially when the tigers were all but dead up until last year), and football is a way of life while going to one game is what? like half of the games theyll play?

Anyone want to offer their opinions on how Drake, Rafalski, and Kronwall look?
-
Haha, wow. Praise for Maltby. What did he do?

The Sens have been trying to trade Redden for the past season, if not the season before, but Redden keeps on invoking his no-trade clause. Undoubtedly, hes not going to want to re-sign knowing they want to get rid of him. The Sens have a good core with Phillips and Volchenkov there. They'll sign up Spezza before he can be made an offer sheet and worry about the rest later. ..And did people actually think the Wings had a snowballs chance in hell of getting Heatley?? Dream on. The Wings will be lucky if they can land Rolston in the off-season (if hes still a UFA by then), let alone a player of Heatley's stature.
-
My first intention was to say that he was underpaid, but then if you think about Thornton and Iginla, its not that big of a deal. Not to mention, although hes improved greatly in his own end, he still has some work to do to become an elite all-around player. Good deal nonetheless.

The way I see it, whichever Dman takes the shot on the PP has a better chance of recording a point than the set up point man does. For example, Nick sets up Schneider who takes the shot at the net, Homer deflects it, and Zetterberg for example puts it in the net. Therefore, Schneider gets the point while Nick doesnt. IMO, Rafalski being that right-handed Dman is going to be setting up Lidstrom for the big one timer. Therfore, its more likely that Lids is going to be getting the points than if he were on the PP with a big shot-taker like Schneider. IMO, Rafalski seems less selfish when it comes to taking the shots, and Im sure he recognizes that Lidstrom has a better shot than him and similarly feels better being the set up guy. Not to mention, I like Rafalski better as a smooth passer than I do Schneider.
