Has Guerin signed yet or am I missing something? Just because he sucked ass in the playoffs doesnt mean we shouldnt take a chance on him. He wont be THAT expensive, hes a big body, a shooter first, and a characteristic which many seem to forget - hes fast. Theres a lot that this guy can add to the lineup. You cant tell me that its unlikely he follows up his 36 goal campaign with 30 goals if hes playing with Hank or Zetterberg. Hes our best option right now. And no Kozlov please. Either we sign a gritty guy or we wait it out. If not a top sixer, then Aaron Asham.
-
Thornton is a bigger name than Drury and Gomez undoubtedly. They both got what Thornton makes. He wouldve gotten 8 at least. As for Zubov, 5.35 is NOT what he wouldve commanded on the open market. Hes easily a top 10 Dman in the league right now. He wouldve seen 6.5M easy.
-
Vishnevski might get 2.5. Hes not getting "at least 2.5" unless the team bidding is absolutley desperate. Theres a reason Anaheim traded him. Theres a reason a playoff bound team traded him at the deadline. Theres a reason why he was a healthy scratch on Nashville. Hes not a top four guy right now.
-
That can be addressed at the deadline. Not adding a goal scoring forward will hurt us a lot more than not having a physical Dman.
-
Reading some of the comments on this board, some of you really need to do your research. Rafalski is probably one of the most underrated Dmen in this league.
-
Brad Stuart will probably get more than Hamrlik. Sutton wants 4M per. Sydor...I havent heard much, so it might be a possibility, but if you want any of those guys, you can pretty much say goodbye to Kozlov, Bert, Guerin, Zubrus, etc. Vishnevski made 1.55 last year and finished the year out as a healthy scratch with Nashville. Hed come cheap and he hits like a train. Hed be great as a #6/7.
-
Blues arent in the running for Guerin, Ottawa apparently is making a push for him, which I could see happening. Of the 3 you mentioned, Guerin is probably the best option. s***ty playoffs aside, hes a big body, gritty, and hes fast. Hes a shooter first. Thats what we need. Hed be sick down low on the PP. On a short term deal (2 years max), he could be nice.
-
Hudler isnt touching 1.5M, unless its a long term contract. It was already mentioned on this board that if Hudler were to go to arbitration, then hed likely get 900k. And arbitration always overpays players. Hasek for 2.5, Hudler for 800k, 1.75 for Vishnevski, 3.25 for Bert

Its encouraging to hear that Holland is aware of the lack of size/physicality on the blueline. Im not too worried about that. We can address that later in the season when cap hits are less. As for Bert, what the hell? get that s*** done. And I dont know why they are so friggin set on adding another Dman. Rafalski and Quincey gives us 7. Im sick of hearing all this about how we need another Dman. Quincey proved himself already. Hasek + Bert + Guerin + Quincey or Hasek + Bert + Hudler + Vishnevski
-
The funny thing is, if we were to start the season with the forwards we have right now, wed probably be better off than we were at the beginning of last year. We lost a lazy soft forward past his prime and added a gritty prospect "power" forward. I just hope we dont sign Kozlov.
-
You dont build your team around a 32 year old. The Avs are building their team around Stastny and Wolski. As for the Schneider signing, it makes a ton of sense. And Hasek going somewhere else? its not going to happen. Because there arent any pure goal scorers available.
-
Cool for the Blues. I couldnt really give a s*** about this signing, except for the fact that it means Kariya wont be going to Pittsburg. That wouldve scared me too much. I heard somebody say it, but now it seems pretty true. Kariya doesnt really like the big hockey markets.
-
Haha priceless. Bert and/or Guerin with carefully crafted contracts would be nice. Especially both. I really dont get why people are so hung up on Kozlov. Anyone on this board could probably put up big points playing with Kovalchuk and Hossa.
-
When does he become a UFA? In all honesty though, Ive been hearing this rumor for a few years now. I wouldnt be surprised to see it happen.
-
It doesnt have anything to do with hard knocks this team. It has everything to do with their moronic policy of not negotiating contracts during the season. Briere was showing the signs of becoming an elite player last year. They shouldve ran with that and offered him a long term contract 8 months ago.
-
If we can get Hasek for 2 and Bert for 3, we stil have another 3 to spend. Its possible, if he really does want to come back to Detroit, that we could still land Kozlov with 3 per. We might be able to get Guerin for that number too.
-
Grigs wont be the 13th forward. They expect him to make it in this league and theyll want to see if hes got what it takes now. Hell be getting regular minutes.
-
I know hes old, I know he sucked ass in the playoffs, but Guerin might be a nice option. He adds size and hes a shooter first, big body, gritty attitude.
-
If he came at a reduced salary, I wouldnt mind Guerin. If we had a top six of Dats, Hank, Homer, Flip, Bert, and Guerin, that would be sick.
-
Good news for the Avs. Looks like theyre the big buys for the West. Hopefully we can sign Bert and get the rivalry going again.
-
6.25M...too much. Especially for 5 years. I had a feeling he was going to Colorado.
-
OMG THATS CRAZY!!!!!111!!1 Does anyone else feel like a 6 year old on Christmas morning right now?
-
For those wondering about his playoff stats, they look pretty impressive, especially post cap era. In the new NHL, Rafalski has 17 points in 20 games over two seasons.

What do the Wings do with the money they have left?

Maybe Detroit will take a shot at Jason Blake. At this point, I really just want Detroit to get somebody who puts the biscuit in the basket without needing to make it look pretty. I want ugly goals and without Smyth, Blake is probably the best option. Blake, Bert, Hasek, address the need for a physical defenseman via trade before or at the trade deadline where the cap hit is less. -

pre Rafalski signing, Detroit could spend 14M max and still have a decent cushion. Rafalski leaves us with 8, Hasek leaves us with 5.5-6, Bert takes 3, Markov takes 3. Its doable.
