I wouldnt be surprised if it IS true. Selannes not one to disappear for lengths of time, and to be honest, although he does have a few points, he hasnt been very threatening at all.

I hadnt heard anything about this, but Selanne hasnt exactly been a force out there. Hopefully its not his knee - that could have an effect on his career, rather than just the playoffs.

If a team is dominating in one end, and possessing the puck the majority of the time, that team who is possessing the puck is gonna get the calls going their way 95% of the time. Thats a fact that all knowledgeable hockey fans know. Its the reason that puck possession teams 9 times out of 10 are at the bottom of the list in terms of calls against them at the end of the year. The only blame that should be dealt should be to the Ducks for not moving their feet and getting THEMSELVES back in the game. Thats what GOOD hockey teams do.

Man, I dont think I realized how physical the Ducks were until you see Buffalo and Ottawa in this series. Outside of a few big hits, the shift to shift hits just arent really there.

Buffalo is such a joke right now. They dont even look like they want it. The last 5 minutes of that game looked like a constant 5 on 3.

Not much of a Wings bias there, but then again Cherry's comments are always skewed by his Canadian bias.

After he got the penalties out of his system, Kopecky played great. He even showed a few flashes of offensive skill. When he was on the ice, he made his physical presence known more than once. Keep Kopecky in.

And it WASNT from the initial hit alone. It CONTINUED after play had been stopped and Homer was lying on the ground. The sheer fact that you are going purely by typical stats proves you dont watch Nick Lidstrom enough to have a knowledgeable debate about who the obvious winner of the Norris should and will be. But since stats is the only language you understand, how about that +40 to a +6 when Pronger was able to capture a +27 on the same team as Scotty?? And you wanna talk about Ice Time? Do you follow hockey or are you just a Ducks homer? Regular Season Ice Time Scott Niedermayer: 27:30 Niklas Lidstrom: 27:29 Wow. HUGE difference there. And then you wanna talk about points?? OOOH a whole 7 pts difference. You wanna know where that comes from? It comes from Nicklas Lidstrom playing 15s less a game on the PP and playing 30s more a game on the PK. A 45 second differential in which scoring is half as likely per game (60 minutes total on the season) will do that to you. And one analyst said it best "Scott Neidermayer was not nearly as good when Chris Pronger was out of the lineup." Right he was. In fact, over 16 games without Pronger, Scotty averages out to a -1. EDIT: I forgot to mention, I readily admit that Niedermayer is a great defenseman and that he deserves to be nominated, but it goes to Lidstrom, hands down.

Wow, NICE article. And you know what? Mad props to Babs, because I really feel like his changes to the lines made a huge difference. If I had to choose one reason for Detroit's domination last night, it has to be because of the fact that Detroit's offense just kept coming, in the form of 4 lines. Cleary with Lang and Bert, Filppula with Datsyuk and Homer, Hank with Sammy and Franzen. Nice call on those changes Babs.

Haha. If the media favored the Wings, they'd be picking them to win every series. Why don't you do a little research and find out for yourself how many analysts picked the Wings to beat the Ducks. That'll give you a good read on what type of bias there is when it comes to the Wings.

Good point. Id forgotten about that. Without Pronger the Ducks went from unstoppable to abysmal. However, I dont think thats going to happen again. They wont be as crappy as they were in the regular season without Pronger. This is the playoffs, and teams learn to adjust to adversity. Then again, first Kunitz, then losing more than once in a series, now Pronger. I think its safe to say this is the first series where the Ducks have faced some serious adversity.

I think the biggest thing here is not so much the absence of Pronger, but the increased ice time that is gonna have to go to O'Donnell, Huskins, Dipenta, and, what? Jackman? With Pronger, Niedermayer, and Beauchemin chewing up 30 minutes a game each, thats a ton of minutes that are going to have to go to #4 O'Donell, who averages 20 minutes a game.

Niedermayer got the penalty for Charging. The guy took enough strides to get across half the rink before he hit Homer.

What are you, 9? How anybody could not have some serious man-love for this team, I dont know. If you look at the team on paper, youve got 4 stars - Hank, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Hasek. Anyone really isnt close. Gone are the days of Fedorov, Yzerman, Shanahan, Hull, Robitaille, and Larionov on the same team. This is a team full of hard-working guys. The stars arent sitting back letting the 3rd/4th liners do all the dirty work, and the 3rd/4th liners arent leaving all the scoring to the top lines. Its been a while since weve seen this sort of attitude, and you gotta love it.

The best part is that the only reason the Ducks sell out games is because of THE TONS OF RED WINGS FANS LIVING IN CALIFORNIA!!! HAHAHA. An Anaheim fan was just on here the other day saying something like "30% of the people in the stands are usually Red Wings fans."
