Not a bad PP, considering what we saw last game, but christ are we any easy team to clear the puck against.

Potential Disaster for the NHL in this Playoff Round?

Did you not read the thread title? This is about the NHL. Who gives a s*** what us hardcore hockey fans think. Hardcore hockey fans barely make the NHL break even - and in some years, not even then. The NHL makes their money from grabbing the attention of the casual hockey fan. And no casual hockey fan gives two s***s about who "the best teams in the postseason" are if they're small market teams with players nobody knows. Of the teams left, the best the NHL can hope for is a Wings/Pens or a Wings/Caps series. The Wings are the biggest draw in the West, and they're also the team that the majority of NHL fans love to see lose, and Crosby/Ovechkin are the two biggest names in hockey right now. Not to mention, the Pens and Caps are getting MAD coverage right now, and that could easily carry over as the winner of that series moves on to the next round (especially if its the Pens). Anything involving Anaheim or Vancouver facing Carolina is a disaster for the NHL. Boston and Chicago would hold their own.

Potential Disaster for the NHL in this Playoff Round?

It doesn't matter if Carolina is a boring team or not. What matters is that the majority of America doesnt know who the Carolina Hurricanes are, and they could care less about finding out.

    Rafalski prediction

You're right. Clearly no players get hurt between series or games.
  20. YoungGuns1340

    Do you want Rafalski back?

Its great that he works hard and skates well. But he doesn't have the skillset, experience, or wherewithal to handle a Datsyukian dangle pass, know where to go for the redirect, or know where to expect a pass from the league's best. If Helm were on the 1st line, he would do exactly what he does on the 4th - bring energy, skate hard, hit, and not score.

    Babcock's coaching

You're right. Its only ever about the players. Never who their linemates are. And no, the lines we have now have NOT been the same "pretty much all year". We've gone through this in another thread. Datsyuk spent 65% of his ESTOI this season on a line withOUT Hossa. Those are actual statistics. Remind me again how it is that if you change the lines, you can't ever change them back.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

Wisniewski and the other Ducks that have called Holmstrom's elbow "dirty" and "gutless" are just trying to distract everyone from the fact that they got a HUGE call go their way from the refs. Thats all it is. Lets make the Red Wings look like the bad guys so that we can feel better about our hollow victory.

Death threat to Ovechkin being investigated

No s***. But to be honest, thats the kind of post that would get the response "woah buddy, back down from the ledge." It sounds like a desperate, deranged comment. I'm sure the kid meant no harm, but better safe than sorry. If people are willing to kill presidents and celebrity musicians, theres no reason why someone cant do it to a superstar athlete.

    Do you want Rafalski back?

Are you kidding? Mess with a winning lineup and a dominant powerplay? [/sarcasm]

Kenny on The Hour with Bettman

Fan: "So why isn't instant replay allowed?" Bettman: "Well, we don't want the games to be 4 hours long. And what I mean when I say that we don't want the games to go 4 hours long is that our reffing is typically so bad, that if we review one play, people would probably want the constant other f***-ups from the referees called. So if you think, by saying that the game would take 4 hours long, that I'm insinuating that my reffing staff is terrible. Well you're right. Er, wrong. And thats consequently why we prefer to only review those goals that are really controversial. Let me give you an example. If a puck deflects off a players skate without a distinct kicking motion, onto the skate of the opposition, and into the net, we feel those are the times where we should slow the game down to a dead halt while we review our rule books and add an extra 10 minutes to the game. In situations where a referee is out of position, the fact that humans are incapable of having distorted views, as we all know, and cameras always do, as we all know, then clearly any human interpretation should triumph over the cameras. As Coach Carlyle said the other night, cameras don't lie. Er, I mean. Referees don't lie. Er, something like that. But while the camera is right 100% of the time, our referees are right 99.9% of the time, and when you add in the fact that they're human, that makes them right 101% of the time. So thats why we don't go to video review." Fan: "But Commissioner Bettm - " Bettman: "HEY so lets talk about how great Phoenix is actually doing..."
