Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Difference between the Wings and the Sharks: One team goes down 2 goals and rallies for a comeback. The other goes down 2 goals, gets pissed off and starts taking stupid penalties. The one time I get to watch a full game, we dominate. Good thing I can watch the 6th.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

The hell that goal was lucky. Datsyuk knew EXACTLY where Nabokov was going with that pass. You have to have good hockey smarts to make sure you are in the right position to intercept that puck, and his body language said everything. He knew exactly what Nabakov was doing and made him pay.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Hank and Rivet got coincidental roughing calls. Although Im not sure how being sat on equates to a roughing call on Zetteberg's part.

Forearm injury. Might be a broken arm.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Looks like Detroit will be shorthanded going into the 3rd. 2 for roughing to Homer, Hank, and Rivet.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Good first period. Even better 2nd. Datsyuk and Zetterberg leading the team with goals 5 and 4 respectively. Thats what you want to see. Awesome 2nd period from everyone. Quincey has to be on the squad as a regular next season.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Can we sign Homer to a 7 year contract?? Awesome to see him step in and defend Zetterberg. What was Rivet thinking?

I second that! On a lighter note, did anyone see Filppula rock a guy that was about 8 times his size?? That was pretty sick.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

I still have a very strong feeling well win this game - all of our big guns look to be having a good game - but we need to get more quality chances and less time looking for the perfect pass.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Yeah, he will, but when is he going to have a good start to a game?? I still havent seen one yet. I know hell likely have an awesome finish to the game, but what if we lose by ONE goal? He simply cant be letting in goals like that. Hes making it WAY TOO EASY on a team that is good enough not to need the easy goals.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Sorry, but they were just all over every god damn Sharks player. They got one cheap goal and suddenly they are the gods of all things hockey.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Datsyuk, Hank, Bertuzzi, and Flip all looked really good. We just cant get anything towards the net. And that goal by Hasek....Im so disappointed in him right now.

Game 5 GDT: Wings and Sharks 5/5/2007

Wow. Is there another feed besides Versus??? Why even have a commentary on the game. Why dont they just have the camera focused on the Versus guys sucking off all the San Jose players on the bench.

Dude, your team scored the first goal. Thats EXACTLY how a comeback works.

If the WIngs bring up both kids thats 1) a very young squad and 2) not a very strong one: Lidstrom, Kronwall, Lilja, Chelios, Quincey, Kindl, and Lebda. We have essentially 1 top 3 Dman (Lidstrom obviously) and the rest are #4s at best with Kronwall having the most potential to be a #3 next season (and Im still not convinced of that.) If I were Kenny, Id dump Markov and Schneider and go after Hamrlik. Hes close to a combination of the two players anyways, without the elite offensive instincts of Schneider. Hes a big, physical presence whos a great point guy on the powerplay...experienced but not too old. Schneider is getting older and takes away from other players - namely Kronwall, Lebda, and Kindl - who could use the time on the PP for development. Hell also likely still be a pricey player to retain. As for Markov, Ive enjoyed having him here and still wouldnt mind if he stays, but there are better options out there in terms of physicality. The best option would likely be to trade Lilja, bring up Quincey and Kindl full time, and have one of them split time with Chelios. Lidstrom-Hamrlik Kronwall-Lebda Chelios/Quicney/Kindl

    Nashville keeps Trotz, coaching staff

No offense, but how can you not win more than 1 playoff game with that forward lineup??? Hartnell, Legwand, Arnott, Dumont, Kariya, Radulov and Forsberg. Not to mention a win-win situation in net with Mason and Vokoun. A coaches job is to get the most out of his players. Clearly the Preds didnt get that when it counts.

    Pre-GAME 5 (5/5): Sharks @ Red Wings - 2 PM ET

3-1 or 5-1 Wings. Big game from our top lines. This game is ours.

Who Do You Want To Dominate Game 5

How about several dominations in the form of a 5-1 victory?? Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Homer, and Bertuzzi, all at least with a goal and an assist.

    Big Berts Small Game

He was prohibited from playing hockey during the lockout and missed an entire season of hockey. Its not 5 or 7 months of hockey. Its TWO YEARS without consistent gamespeed hockey. That type of preparation wont do much for you.

I say Quincey and Chelios should split the 7th spot. Although, Chelios may want to remain a regular. Either way, both are capable full-time defenseman. And for what Lilja has shown in these playoffs, we may have 3 5th Dmen.
  22. YoungGuns1340

    Lidstrom?

I think it was game 2 or 3 where Lidstrom got run into the net against Calgary and went off to the bench after that and was hanging around outside the locker room for a little bit after the hit into the crossbar. Its very possible that he is nursing something from that. He did come back on the ice only minutes later. Either way, hes a warrior.

    Paging Datsyuk

Im not disappointed per se in either of them. Ive been very pleased, but would like to see a few more points on the board. If they can come through in game 6 in SJ, Id be happy. The thing people have to remember right now, though, is that the playoffs is all about TEAM PLAY and UNSUNG HEROES. For comparison, Ryan Smyth was NOT Edmonton's best player in the playoffs last season. Personally, however, I think Babs should try splitting them up a little. Not for any other reason other than having all your eggs in one basket.

    Sharks Falling Apart?

When you have to fight back from a 2-0 deficit, its never a "lucky" win. Its hard work that makes things eventually go your way. EXACTLY. At any rate, the Sharks may not be crumbling, but the Red Wings have a second chance to take advantage of the momentum they have now having won two games in comeback mode. Regardless of what that does to the Sharks, thats a bonus for the Wings in that they know how hard they have to work to beat the Sharks and hold them off. IMO, this veteran team wont let average play inhibit them again.

    Maltby staying in Detroit?

Im fine with this as long as Kenny makes a SPLASH with the remaining forward spot. There are a ton of options, and Id be happy with any of the following: Drury Smyth Handzus Zubrus Pyatt Tkachuk Sturm Blake Hartnell Gomez Kariya Drury would be an awesome choice, IMO.
