Great shift out there for Hudler, Lang, and Calds. Even Lang had a good shift. Heres to 15 more.
-
Its your reputation for diving, Kariya.
-
Get off the ice Kariya. We all know youre faking.
-
YES! Mickey just called him Bobby Lang.
-
NICK LIDSTROM ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF!!!!!!!! THEYRE ON THE FLOOR RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!
-
Homer touches a goalie = penalty Predator touches a goalie = play continues
-
Poor Lidstrom. If he didnt play with so many mistake-prone defenseman, his +/- would be through the roof. Hes a -1 already tonight because his moronic D pair is...well, a moron. Amen. But what ever happened to blowing the whistle once the puck can no longer be seem. These whistles on covered pucks have been waaay too slow.
-
Lang blew TWO chances for a set up on the PP. Lilja gave away a goal. If it werent for just these two guys, we could be ahead with the first goal. How many people here watch a lot of other teams play?? Does ANY team take as many harmless shots coming off the wing as the Red Wings do????

What should lines be when all are back

Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom YOU CANNOT MANUFACTURE CHEMISTRY Calder - Lang - Bertuzzi Franzen - Filppula - Cleary Draper - Maltby - Sammy Having Hudler as a 13th is a great position to be in. Now, if any s***head comes in and decides to take shifts off in the playoffs or just flat out sucks, Hudler comes in and we dont have to worry about it. -
Hannan will likely be a lot more expensive than Sarich.

I think we need a class profiling lesson: There is a difference between White Trash and Hicks. Yes, because 3 cups in the last decade has been accomplished by SO many NHL teams. ...but Nashville's not overrated. Thats kind of an embarassing statement to make. Theyre a great team. They might even be better than Detroit...
-
Wow. Did an announcer really say that?? I tend to think most people who have to listen to a "rival" teams announcers are going to think theyre homers, but did an announcer really say something like that?? Thats embarassing. Especially since its coming from Nashville - the academic center of the country, right?
-
Great! Thanks..

Can anybody give a quick game summary?? Who played well...how did the Wings play as a team?? I saw the last 10 minutes and everything looked stellar.

UFAs that could really help the Wings (IMO) for various reasons. Top 6ers: Bert Smyth Drury Handzus (borderline) Walker Tkachuk Guerin Kozlov Blake Zubrus Dmen: Phillips Hamrlik Witt Vishnevski Souray Stuart Hannan Sarich Grinders: Laaksonen Thornton Mayers Asham Fedoruk Naturally, if Bert pans out, he should be Detroit's #1 target. If I had to choose one from each group, it would probably be Drury - fast, gritty, leadership, clutch, has an extra gear, solid top 2 center to replace Lang and/or Datsyuk; Witt - I know he takes a lot of penalties, but he fights, hits, and would likely be one of the cheapest options of all those guys available. Guys like Hannan, Souray, and Stuart are better but will be out of the wings price range; Asham - drops the gloves, good on the PK, tons of energy.

This "earliest return" business is making me nervous. But March 22 is going to be an awesome game.

Scott Hannan is way overrated as a hitter though. Ask Sharks fans. His play doesnt live up to his reputation as a hitter. Hes a hell of a hard-working defenseman and a great checker though. As for Souray, I agree. Id take him over Schneider any day of the week. Hes a hell of a leader too, but he'll be out of the Wings price range between the cap hits of Kronwall and Lidstrom. I would be surprised to see him get 5M. Hannan plays for the Sharks. Hes what would be considered their number 1 Dman, but hes not a top 10 defensman in the league. A case could be made for top 20 though. Hes not very flashy, doesnt put a lot of points and doesnt throw a ton of ground-breaking hits, etc etc. He flys under the radar most of the time, but he is a very solid defenseman.

Why are we going for small potatoes here?? We could land a big name fa forward this summer... Datsyuk (6) - Zetterberg (2.65) - Holmstrom (2.25) Filppula (.8) - Drury (5) - Bert (4) Hudler (.8)- Franzen (.942) - Sammy (1.2) Grigs (.8) - Draper (2.128) - Cleary (.625) Kopecky (.5) Lidstrom (7.6) - Kronwall (3) Lebda (.55) - Witt (2.5) Kindl (.6) - Chelios (.8)/Quincey(.5) Chelios/Quincey Hasek (.8) Osgood(.8) Total: 44.845 One forward (bert) and one Dman (witt) that will drop the gloves. Drury adds speed and grit to the 2nd line. We add leadership with Drury, and although he takes a lot of penalties, we have a physical Dman that wont break the bank paired with the speediest of Dmen that can make of for his lack of speed. Quincey takes on a similar role to Lebdas last year, filling in for injuries AND when Chelios needs to take some games off for rest. Chelios helps out in a mentoring role.
-
Hannan at 4.5?? Detroit cannot afford to tie up that much money in Hannan or any other defenseman for that matter. Id be surprised to seem them drop anything more than 3M on a Dman.

Haha I feel the same way! I though Sammy sucked until he was out for a while. I will say this - I've never really been a fan of Sammy, but over the past two games hes kind of stood out. He does take a lot of harmless shots at the net, but there was a jump in his step on the ice over the past two games, he passes werent off, and he was far from the worst guy on the ice. Aside from that, no matter how many people still want to believe so, he is a better goal scorer than Cleary, is better offensively than any Griffin (although I really like Ellis' energy) and is a better complement to Lang than other guys that have been on his line so far. I wont cry when hes gone, I DON'T think hes a true 2nd liner, and there are definitely a lot of players on this team I like more, but as long as we have the injuries we do, hes not so bad.

Then you apparently dont know Don Cherry. He is notorious for taking Canadians over Euros any time he can - even if undeservedly so. He is known for being biased against Euros. Case in point: Staal over Malkin. 71 points to 37 and he thinks Staal should win it. What a joke. Just because Staal is 18 and a good player doesnt change the fact that Malkin has incredible skill and nearly double the points that Staal has. Sure, he has the record for rookie SH goals, but is that enough to justify a clear difference in skill and a 34 point gap?
-
I was just thinking about that too.
-
I think it should be a comforting thought that the Wings have only lost like this 3 or 4 times this season. The majority of teams have to go through games like this. Hell, look at Ottawa. They were on fire and then they started blowing three goal leads in the 3rd period like it was their business. Besides, the Wings can be a little generous and forfeit some points to a fellow original sixer trying to make the playoffs.
-
i have to agree. Its kind of funny how everytime we have games in hand against so-so teams that will help us take over the central or get us closer, we always lose. Ill be fine with the 4th seed. Especially if the 5th is Turco and his stars.
-
Oh yeah, I guess those guys did too. I just stopped watching the game after the ridiculous bounce that made the game 4-2 and only came in to see Hudler's nice effort to keep up with the play. Its just funny though, scanning through the list of players in my head I couldnt think of many that didnt have glaring mistakes this game. Datsyuk had a terrible game, especially defensively. Oh well.
