Apparently you dont realize that Bettman's only goal is to give the Red Wings handouts. In fact, actually, his goal is to make the league as competitive as possible and get fans for as many small-market teams as possible. THAT argument bodes just as well when the Red Wings get screwed over in games when the opponents are undoubtedly either floundering in the standings or trying to make the playoffs.

I do not see this helping Pittsburgs case AT ALL. Playoff OT is 5 on 5, and there is no Shootout. In the playoffs, you dont score 4 goals game after game. It seems like if the Pens dont score AT LEAST 4 goals, they lose. Fleury has AT LEAST 8 wins this season when he has 4+ goals scored against. Teams will shut down Pittsburg's offense and once that happens, its all over.

Ive been to an Oilers game and the Kings game last night so far this year and BOTH games, because they were close and competitive, were very emotional in terms of the audience. ...and in case anyone doesnt know, DON CHERRY IS PRO CANADIAN EVERYTHING. Hes pushing Staal for rookie of the year over Malkin. Staal's having a great year, but Malkin is the clear-cut winner hands down. This is coming from the SAME guy that thinks Nick Lidstrom ISN'T one of the best defenseman in the league because he doesnt HIT enough. In any academic realm, Cherry would be termed a racist. The Red Wings have a predominantly European team and (surprise) they're still doing well. He completely overlooks the fact that ALL of Detroits biggest hitters - Kronwall, Markov, and Franzen - are (surprise again) ALL European players. Now, do I agree that the Wings need more edge? Absolutely. Would it be nice to see more fights and harder-hitting? Hell yes. But he acts like the Wings are a soft team because Ken Holland wants it that way. He completely forgot what happened when the salary cap came in: players with cap unfriendly salaries were cut loose. And who was cut loose????? MCCARTY and HATCHER. Is it because Holland hates grit and north americans or is it because its not logical to tie up 7.5 million in two guys who arent even suited for the new league?? Its great and all that Cherry thinks their should be more physicality on the Wings and in the league in general - I AGREE -but picking on the Wings for trying to assemble a competitive team after cutting their salary IN HALF and doing it at a time when Zetterberg, Cleary, Bertuzzi, Holmstrom, Markov, and Kopecky - most of which are emotional, hard-nosed players nonetheless - says a lot about Cherry's agenda.

LILJA WILL NOT GO ON WAIVERS. As much as people like to think Lilja is the scum of the earth, he is a good 6th defenseman and could easily fill that role on probably half the teams in this league. He makes a great salary for what he could bring to a team in need of defense next season. He could easily be traded for a mid-level pick over the summer. Lidstrom - Kronwall Lebda - Markov or UFA Kindl - Quincey/Chelios Chelios/Quincey I think at 45/46, Chelios will probably be given nights off a la Hasek and Quincey will fill the same type of role that Lebda filled last season, playing about half the season between nights off for Chelios and injuries. I really think keeping Chelios is a no brainer and if we have possibly two young defenseman come in next season, hell be an asset in a mentoring role. As for the UFA, Id like to see the Wings look at a stay at home Dman with a physical presence. Although he takes a lot of penalties, Id like to see Witt here to replace Markov. He could probably be had for the same price, is just as physical, but would also drop the gloves. I think he makes 2.5 this season. I completely agree. And I think Kronner has only gotten smarter with the puck on the point as the years progressed. Between Lidstrom, Kindl, Kronwall, and Lebda, I dont see a whole lot of offense lost from the back end. And cutting Schneider loose only means more money to put towards the forward units.

I was at the game and he was doing a LOT of little things right. I dont even like the guy, but he had a solid game. I cant really fault any of the forwards for the goals against tonight. Both were terrible defensive lapses. Great game. Watching Lebda streak down the ice was just sick.

Chelios and Maltby I can understand of course, although the past two years theyve both been (sadly) playing very clean. (Not that I want other players to be injured, but it would be nice to see some guys play with an edge once in a while). But this Kronwall business I had never heard. It was a forearm shiver. He didnt "drive his elbow into Lebda's head" but he brought up the elbow. Its not like Lebda is 5' 2". Theres 5 inches between Lebda and Arnott. Last time I checked thats not the distance between a head and an elbow. Anyways, this debate is lame. Jason Arnott brought up his elbow, but I doubt he really wanted to hurt Lebda. Hes not really a dirty player. But it was an elbow, it was worthy of a penalty and the check couldve been made legally. At any rate, we need to stop talking about this hit like it was groundbreaking. Haha I was thinking the same thing!! When I saw Flip miss I was just thinking "oh no, they're gonna put Lang in and this thing will be OVER" and then I saw that Mule was up and I kind of froze not knowing what to think. I think we forget sometimes that Babs probably knows the players just a little bit better than we do.

I dont know if hes THE BEST but hes one of the better ones. And before anyone goes off on a tangent about how he has a great staff around him, please recognize that NO GM does the job all on his own.
