Every team knows how to play the trap. Any team will use it against us if they feel the need to. What worries me more is the speed they have up front. Gaborik, Rolston, Demitra are all fast scoring threats. However, the one thing that gives me hope is the game we played against Dallas. I cant remember a regular season game that reminded me so much of the playoffs over the past three years: No name goalie making all the right moves, lucky goals for the other team, and being shut down by the other team as they play perfect defense. But for the first time, we really worked hard the entire game and ended up pulling it out. Not only that, but I really feel we have a game-breaker nowadays in Henrik Zetterberg. Once we get our second line fixed and possibly a 4th line scrapper to boot, we shouldnt worry so much about who we face. The other thing is, if we do win the Presidents trophy or even first in the conference, we wont win it having 125 points and with the next highest team having 10 points less. It would be a battle to the end and all that does is get you prepared for the dog fight that is the playoffs.

It wont be Williams lazy ass, itll be Langfeld's hard-working ass.

Wings' offer for Forsberg (as well as other teams)
YoungGuns1340 replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
On the same night, me and my buddy both had a dream that Jason Williams was traded. Thats gotta mean something No wonder the Canucks said no... If I had to guess, Id say theres no way Forsberg re-signs with Nashville unless they make him an offer he cant refuse...which I still think other teams would try and match. He really seemed to like it in Philly and I wouldnt be surprised if he goes back there in an effort to bring the team back up to where they were pre-2006/07 -
You hear people bitching about how Chelios should just hang 'em up, hes so old, hes not what he used to be etc, etc, but what people dont understand is that hes awesome in a 6th guy PK specialist role. I challenege anyone to find a better #6 guy. Not to mention the experience, leadership, smarts, and cheap price that go with him.

Analysis: Price for players Wings might want is going up quickly
YoungGuns1340 replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
You want Detroit to trade for a good, young, cheap, long-term contracted player?? I dont know what to say here other than, in your dreams....unless you want to pay out the ass. The player you described has the highest value of any guy in the league sans the superstars. Chris Gratton wouldnt command a prospect like that. Hed go for much the same price as Gelinas or Mayers - all good choices that could probably be had for a mid-range pick, depending on the competition. Fedoruk would be nice too. -

I thought the Caps were trying hard to re-sign him. Hed be a nice option too. We have a snowballs chance in hell of getting Clark. Hes got another cheap year on his contract and being that hes a 20+ guy, he wont be going anywere. But heres the trick....hes a SWEDE. As we all know, being a Swede trumps EVERYTHING in Holland's book. But alas hes supposedly close to re-signing with CBJ. -
At least some person on here is same. Datsyuk is not going to be traded. Period. Something is severely wrong on this board when people want to trade Datsyuk and keep Williams. Any trading of Datsyuk shouldve been done much early in the season. its too late now.

1. Our PP wasnt lethal in the post season 2. Our second line has a better chance of being fixed than did our defense last year. More cap space, more options to fix that second line.

yeah like the other 29 teams in the NHL helped rejuvenate his career. This guy has been bounced around 7 teams for a reason. Hes the last guy the Wings need.
-
There an explosive offensive team in a conference that rewards...explosive offensive teams. Teams will figure them out and shut them down in a 7 game series.
-
Last years team was better on paper, this years team is better built for the playoffs even as it is. Much better defense, much better goaltending. Defense wins championships.
-
To me, this means we are willing to trade 1st rounders and guys like Hudler. Other guys like Kronner and Flip are off limits.

I hate to be so blunt, but Williams sucks. He went 1-3 on EMPTY NET SHOTS. Hes reached a new low and is getting paid more than HOLMSTROM to be the worst player on the ice every game.

If your top scorer goes down, and you cant win a game, you arent a good team. If Hank went down 3 games ago, the last two games wouldve been losses. Its one thing when your first line dominates, with your second line making contributions here and there. But when your second line is DEAD, your team will soon be too.

Langfeld was terrible tonight. I counted 4 shifts in a row where he made glaring mistakes that ended up in a giveaway, a turn over, or a scoring chance. Over the past few games (and Im surprised to hear myself say this) but Jason Williams has had a little jump to his step. Cleary was a beast tonight. Lang was ABYSMAL. Every time this guy is on the ice, I want to cry. You can blame his linemates all you want, but Cleary always works hard and Willys been putting in the effort a little more lately. ....Im also surpised to find myself HOPING Sammy will be back soon. And Kopecky. This 2nd line needs an overhaul NOW. Teams will learn how to shut down Hank, Pavel, and Homer over a 7 game series, and then well be done. Maltby-Draper-Franzen was our 2nd line tonight. They had more and better scoring chances, coming closer than did our "real" second line.

Not all is perfect in paradise. Take a look: Forsberg disappointed with trade

Hank is so good right now. There...just....I can't explain....so good.

Holmstrom re-signed for 3 years, $6M (est.)

2.1 or so is fine by me. 3 years at that price is a great deal. -
I didnt include it because its conditional.

Anyone Else Feel That Nashville Will Become A True Rival?
YoungGuns1340 replied to TheChosenOne's topic in General
Yup. We can hate Nashville all we want, but until we get some guys who are willing to throw down with Hordichuk, Weber, Hartnell, etc, it wont reach the level of a true rivalry. -
Can you imagine what it wouldve done to his relationship with Holmgren if he had refused to be traded to a team that had offered Upshall, Parent, and a 1st for him??

2 out of our last 3 cups we finished 2nd in the division
YoungGuns1340 replied to TheChosenOne's topic in General
I think people underestimate how much doubting a team can make them work harder. Think of any team we've gotten beaten by recently. They were all expected to lose. Everyone doubted their ability to go far. If thats the case with the Wings, Id be more than happy. Give them something to prove. Make them show that they really want it. -

Homer signed well before he couldve hit free agency, hes never given the Wings any contract trouble, and apparently they got the deal done pretty quickly. Undoubtedly, it was a price both parties thought was fair. -
The article says Bert might play this weekend or early next week. I have a feeling the Wings might actually go after Bertuzzi. His price probably wont be that high and other teams will probably stay away from him. It would be a risk, but at the very least he could be a big strong body in the lineup even if he doesnt produce like crazy. And if Willy was part of the deal, the simple fact that he wouldnt be on the ice would improve the team.
