Bondra was born in what is now Ukraine.

I cant believe people actually WANT Antropov. What a joke. This guy is crap and always has been. Id rather go with a young guy than sign Antropov. Ugh. That being said, I dont want Carter either.
-
No way in hell they offered Carter a two year contract. They wouldve offered Markov a two year contract, hell they wouldve offered Nolan a two year contract before Carter. They wont be stuck with that sad sack for more than a season.

I agree. I dont by this whole "Lebda, Lilja, and Chelios are going to rotate out". First of all, Babcock loves Lilja and Lebda, not to mention that Lebda needs the time and Lilja wont go from most improved player to 7th spot. Second of all, you dont just "rotate players" out of the 7th spot. That screws up chemistry and all kinds of stuff. I mean, what happens when, say, Chelios and Lebda are playing amazing together? Do you just rotate anyways even though its for the better of the team that they stick together. It just doesnt make sense. And I dont think I even have to touch on the fact that Chris Chelios is not going to be the 7th guy after the season he has. Or for that matter, simply because hes Chris Chelios. Basically, if any team that Detroit is planning on trading with is asking for a defenseman in return (Lilja or Schneider), Detroit needs to have that replacement signed or at least on the hook before the trade.
-
I was thinking that too. Anyways, the reason theyre signing another top 4 is because they are clearly preparing to trade Mathieu Schneider and Jason Williams to Edmonton for Raffi Torres. Its really too bad Lowe is one of those "smart" GMs

I kinda pissed we didnt wait around to see what happened with Sarich though. He used to be a Lilja Clone. And then he came to the Rangers and Tom Renney turned him into a legitimate top 3 Dman. He had a career turn around in NYR. Hes very solid now.
-
I hope its Markov rather than Jonsson. The lesser of two evils.
-
Thats good, because Id never trade Zetterberg who is already twice the player Komisarek is.

Belfour > Weekes Osgood + Liv/Howard > Osgood/Belfour > Osgood/Weekes

Id prefer Owen Nolan, but as long as the bidding doesnt go too high, Id do it on a one year contract once the goaltending situation gets figured out particularly becaue of his skating. I was reallly impressed with how quick he got to those loose pucks and how cut-throat he was in the corners battling. Hes one of those guys thats really fiesty and gritty despite his size. I was just waiting for the rumors that Detroit was after Recchi to crop up. It makes a lot of sense. I really would like it if Recchi came in to take Jason Williams spot because of our having traded him to Buffalo for Biron

Souray for Lang would be fine. I dont really care about Hudler, but its the principal of the thing: Lang and Hudler for Souray is overpayment. Id rather save Hudler up for another trade. Souray is physical, yes, but hes a pylon. Ask any Habs fans. The guy gets undressed at least once a game. His defense these days is only slightly better than Lilja's. Wed be paying a lot for some physicality. Lang for Souray should be just fine. This is probably coming from the same source that wanted Lang for Zednik straight up, yet saw Zednik turned around and offered away for a pick.

I would be psyched if we could land Gaustad. Id be even more psyched if we could land Gaustad and have him play wing with either Datsyuk or replace Sameulsson on Zetterberg's line. Itd be nice to have some American boys up front for a change.
-
Theres been a lot of talk about them not exactly wanting him back because of his constant injury issues.
-
Im confused. Did you just call the likes of Shanahan, Arnott, and Cheechoo playmakers??? Im not sure what to tell you buddy. If you are arguing about goal scoring, then you arent making any sense. Afinogenov scores an average of 19 goals per season. His highest goal total was ever was a whopping 22 goals. Datsyuk: 28 goals, more assists than Afinogenov Thornton: 29 goals, more assists than Afinogenov Cheechoo: 56 goals (28 goals on the 03/04 season without Thornton) Kovalev: 23 goals in 8 less games than Afinogenov (in same amount games as max, wouldve had 73 points/26 goals) Crosby: 39 goals, more assists than Afinogenov. Spezza: 19 goals, more assits than Afinogenov (played 9 less games, wouldve had 22 goals, 80 assists in same amount of games as max) Richards: 23 goals, more assists than Afinogenov. Shanahan: 40 goals, more points than Afinogenov Gomez: 33 goals, same amount of assists as Afinogenov Arnott:32 goals Lecavalier: 35 goals, more points

yeah I see your point. Perhaps its to replace Connoly? I think hes most likely to be traded of their centerman, but not to Detroit. I don think Detroit will take a centerman back in return. Unless of course its Drury.
-
What?!??!? I dont want to flame you or anything, but nobody who watches Afinogenov play on a regular basis would ever make that comment. Off the top of my head: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Thornton, Marleau, Cheechoo, Heatly, Tanguay, Alfredsson, Richards, Kovalev, Cole, Spezza, Sakic, Crosby, Staal, Kovalchuk, Jokinen, Hossa, Selanne, Kariya, Shanahan, Gomez, Jagr, Arnott, Lecavalier, Iginla. There are probably a lot more you could add to that list too. Not to mention, where goals alone are concerned, Afinogenov isnt even top 50] in the league. Just a thought: Kris Draper's Career Shooting % average is higher than Max's. Briere is going to be Buffalo's Zetterberg if he isnt already. Hell probably be a top 10 center next year. Hes so underrated right now, and Buffalo seems to be the only team that knows it. Im betting theyll do everything in their power to keep him.
-
Why is this rumor even posted?? This will never happen. Kronwall will never be traded this early. This rumor is absolute crap. As for Afinogenov, you guys are vastly overrating him, but then again he is overrated in general. I like his speed, but the guy cannot finish. Ask Buffalo fans, in fact, ask most hockey fans who watch this guy a lot. Hes tons of skill, playmaking, and flash but hes a terrible finisher. I wouldnt mind him here, but not at an expensive price, which is likely what itll take to get him.

Link. "According to the Boston Herald, Brendan Shanahan will be a Bruin this afternoon or tomorrow. Contract of 2 years, 9.8 millions.
-
Looks like theyre just going to have to trade for their players. I heard they think Lang would look nice on their roster.... ....and Im thinking Komisarek would look damn good on ours, but Id settle for Souray + Zednik for Lang + picks.
-
Thats a good point. Undoubtedly Datsyuk would use that in negotiations - how willing he was to throw 4M at Shanahana. As for Zetterberg, we have him locked up at 2.65 for the next three years. So I guess Holland still has somewhat of a brain, either that or Zetterbergs agent doesnt.

Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings
YoungGuns1340 replied to datsyukonethree's topic in General
yes you can. When your good pkers dont do anything else than PK, you have too many. Zetterberg-Maltby Franzen-Cleary Bootland and Kopecky PK too. -
But then...why couldnt he justify paying Guerin 2.25M?? It may just look like numbers to us, but to Billy G thats an extra $250,000. Either he had his heart set on going to St. Louis or Holland didnt want to pay that. To me, that says Holland still thinks Shanahan is a superstar in this league and worlds better than Guerin to be offering him that much and not offering Guerin around 2M. All I gotta say is Holland better be working on trades. Im sick of hearing how "we only have 6M available cap space" blah blah blah. When trading any combination of Schneider, Lang, Williams, and Maltby (probably hard to do), could free up a good chunk of space.
-
I think the most pathetic part of all this is that he thinks he can get more than 4M on the open market. Perhaps even more more pathetic is that he probably will. Screw Shanahan. I hope to god some other team picks him up. These huge offers to overpaying vets are so uncharacteristic of Holland!!

Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings

Nashville is not actively looking for a starter. Vokoun is scheduled to travel to the Mayo Clinic July 15 for tests to determine if his blood clot condition has stabilized. “Some people can look at this as an insurance policy,†Poile said. “One thing we have talked about is how good our chemistry was between our two goalies and how we could win with both of them.†They already re-signed Mason and feel comfortable with having him as starter if need be. Hes an RFA who made 1.22 last year. I know LA has offered him his qualifying offer (he hasnt accepted it yet) which I believe if its still the standard 10% raise, would then be 1.34 next year. As for Buffalo's backup situation, they wanted to sign a veteran backup before they traded Biron so as to know what their goaltending situation is, so I guess Garon is an option, but his payroll isnt exactly ideal for a backup. I guess if they felt that Garon was their best option, theyd do the trade, but I doubt theyd trade for him until after theyve explored other options that would come cheaper (who knows? maybe they have already..). Either way, if LA wants to give up Brown + Garon for Biron, then Detroit can't compete as it is. And I think you're right, the overpaying trade would make more sense for LA as theyd probably keep Biron longer than we would. -
Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings
YoungGuns1340 replied to datsyukonethree's topic in General
Biron does NOT warrant Lang or Draper or anyone except for maybe Williams, which would be a stupid move for Buffalo anyways. Their defense is weak, has gotten weaker with Mckee leaving and all the good defenders are taken up in free agency. Regier would be stupid for trading for a forward when they are packed with them. ESPECIALLY centers. Draper has a NTC anyways and cant be moved unless he decides to waive it (doubtful since he loves it here with his two best buddies in Ozzie and Malts), although he is replaceable with Cleary, Franzen, and Maltby all being excellent penalty killers as it is. And Im surprised nobody has mentioned HENRIK ZETTERBERG on that list of Pkers, because Wings coaching staff seemed to think that he shouldve gotten some Selke consideration, which will likely happen in the future. As for the person who said Draper had an off year offensively after winning the Selke, thats backwards logic. When youve only had ONE good year offensively in your entire career, its called a fluke. And mostly because Draper got so much ice time in 04. Are people really so quick to forget the continual string of injuries we had that year??? This is probably why Holland is looking at Belfour, because Biron is not worth it when its a band-aid situation. Id rather see Detroit keep Lang, Williams, and Schneider and package them up in some way to land something young that will stick around for a while. No use wasting trade bait on a goalie youre only going to have for a year or two, especially if something else that wont be a UFA for 3-4 years could be had instead. But with the way is throwing around Garon's name as well, theyd either want to send him Buffalo's way or make sure hes traded before LA trades with Buffalo. And like I said, if Dustin Brown is what its going to take to get Biron, then let LA have him. That is a complete overpayment. Id rather creep into the playoffs as the 8th seed with 1. Osgood, 2. Belfour, and 3. Howard in goal than us waste trade bait that could get something better in return. If it were Draper and he waived his clause, Id say go for it. Thats not a lot to give up, but big centers, extremely cheap skilled wingers that can put up 60 pts and offensive puck moving defenseman have a lot of value on the market right now. Id rather trade Williams + whatever (or the like since Chicago wants cheap, young, skilled players so badly) for Bell than Williams for Biron when Bell would stick around for a few years in a prominent position and Biron would merely be a stop gap for one year, two max.
