Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings
YoungGuns1340 replied to datsyukonethree's topic in General
Turco has a no trade clause that kicked in July 1st. Columbus thinks they have a starter in Leclaire which makes sense because he played a lot and did well last year and Florida with Auld is also not actively seeking a goaltender, let alone a starter. Biron will be traded to a team that needs a starter i.e. Detroit and LA. Mostly Detroit. -
Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings

Haha, so who does he sign with, then?? His options are LA or Detroit, and LA has wealth of goaltenders in their system not to mention Garon and Labarbera, and LA would need to trade Garon if they got Biron because Labarbera needs to be the backup, and Garon would be a waste of a roster spot and/or salary. -
Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings

If we dont have to give up a lot to get Biron, Id love it. I want Detroit to save their trade bait (Hudler, Wiliams, Lang, Schneider) for a big Dman, a winger a la Mark Bell, and another less prolific winger with some speed i.e. Langenbrunner. -
Eklund's justification for trading for Montoya is that "the Wings arent as high on Howard as they were at the beginning of the season" Yes, Im sure thats why Holland is leaving open the possibility of getting some time as a Red Wing this season. Eklund has no inside story. The trades he ever gets right are those that are reported on other rumor sites first. Numminen was their offensive Dman and they re-sgined him. They need someone to replace McKee, but Schneider wouldnt be the front-runner for that spot, although he is a possibility.

Considering nothing other than availability and talent, the only ones worth mentioning are Luongo, Biron, and Giguere.
-
Look at it this way: If you like him, hes most likely coming back and we could do a lot worse. Hes cheap, relatively young, has a good set of wheels, a little grit, some heart and experience. For those of you harping on him, all signs point to Mark Mowers not coming back. Someone needs 13th forward duty, and undoubtedly Cleary will get it if hes underperforming. As long as this guy is given a smart contract, Im ambivalent.

I think we've got it all wrong. WE AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THE ONES PUTTING IN THE EFFORT TO GET THE WIN. Maybe if we don't do it, the Wings will actually do it this time.
-
I will say this though. It is an honor to play for an original six team and one that has been a winning team over the past decade. Maybe that will inspire Cross to play a better game.
-
Maybe he will, how the hell would you know otherwise??? Well, Schneider has a brain doesn't he? Case closed.
-
Quit bitching about us bitching.
-
You mean when we brought him over after he had an impressive season playing in Europe? Do you think Mathieu Schneider is saying "put Cory on my line!" like Zetterberg said about Sammy?
-
Maybe. When you cant make the Pens lineup, somethings wrong. And Rivers was only part of the team in theory, barely played and with limited minutes. He was our 8th guy. I wouldve liked to see Holland at least make an improvement over Woolley and Lebda.
-
Yeah, I know what you are saying, but I wouldve liked to see a guy that could fill in the 6th spot ahead of Woolley/Lebda. And Carney wasnt a guy I wouldve expected us to land. He was too expensive. Anyways, all this bitching is making me tired. I dont think Holland is a bad GM at all, but I am extremely disappointed as I think Woolley and Lebda are both better players than Cross. However, I would love to be proved wrong.

Nobody is saying that, all i am saying is that this guy brings nothing to the table that benefits the Wings where as Simpson would have atleast provided some toughness for the playoffs and he would have been CHEAPER. You can't seriously be happy with trading a 4th round pick for a guy who couldn't get a game for the worst team in the league. Yes I can. Jiri Slegr wasn't getting any roll with Atlanta when we acquired him and he proved to be perfectly useful down the stretch - and Atlanta was the absolute dregs of the league at the time. Are you referring to when he played one game in the playoffs or was it two??
-
And the point was to strengthen and improve our team.
-
Pure speculation and assumption. Pound for pound, with the exception or Rivers and Richardson with the way hes been playing this season, those guys are ALL better than Cross. But I wouldnt want Rivers back anyways and Id probably take Richardson over Cross just because he has actually proved he can play a decent game whereas Cross....

Im freaking out over an EIGHTH defenseman when we couldve had a SIXTH defenseman that actually uses his body in the lineup.
-
Im lost as to why people are using the excuse that Holland only wanted to pick up a depth defenseman. Is that reason enough to pick up the worst one???? 75% of the defenseman traded today were depth defenseman. ALL of them are better than Cross.
-
Simpson is a 4-5 Dman? News to me....
-
So why not pursue a depth defensemen that provides what we need? Physicality = Todd Simpson. Thats what Im saying. Simpson was had for a 6th round piclk, made 600k all season (CHEAPER THAN CROSS) and FIGHTS. How did we miss this opportunity. I wasnt looking for us to sign a top 4 like some were expecting us to sign Witt, but I thought Simpson would be perfect. Hes actually a player that we DONT already have the same version of in our lineup. The guy would ACTUALLY be a replacement for Fischer in the physical sense.
-
Just because Holland wanted to acquire a depth defenseman doesn't mean he had to go after one of the worst defenseman in the league. And thats not an exaggeration. He has few fans and every one of the past 3 teams hes been on have been very displeased with him.

Fredrik Modin is money on the Wings. Modin-Zetterberg-Samuelsson. Please try and contain yourselves. Fredrik Modin, although probably untradeable, would be one of the best fits for the Red Wings. He isnt a huge star, but he is 6'4 and uses his size like no one on the wings does now, with the exception of Kronwall. He does exactly what you ask of him, plays a hard gritty game, and performed very well in last years playoffs. I know hes just one more Swede, but he doesn't play the typical Swedish game while still being skilled. Williams, Hudler and a 2nd.

"Hockey and Anger Management" Todd Bertuzzi "The Key to Long Term Sucess" Martin St. Louis "Never Give Up" Zigmund Palffy

Witt could be had for our 2nd rounder flat out.

Damn....shut er down.
