So, we're playing on par with the team that everyone sees as the worst team in the playoffs. Great. I know our defense was going to break down. It hasn't been half as tight as it was last year, since the puck drop.

Look, there is corruption in business, there is corruption in government, there is corruption in frickin educational systems (Hello, Detroit), there is corruption in sports. When unfathomable sums of money are involved in any way - direct or indirect - then corruption inevitably follows. That pattern plays itself out over time and place. I'm not saying that IS the case, but to think the big heads aren't mulling over how to affect some outcomes without their fingerprints, you'd have to be kidding yourself. Its not like we don't already spew adages about how "the calls even themselves out" or how "the refs are just inconsistent." We've already talked ourselves out of there being any actual intent to sway the game by reffing, so all the more reason why refs can get away with swaying things this way and that.

Actually, the Wings ended up with 14 shots to CBJ's 13.

You know, I've been mulling this over a lot, and I have to agree. We've won 4 cups in the past 12 years. We're in the playoffs every year. We're a top 3 team every year. It HAS to be annoying to other fans to watch us do well year in and year out. With all the emphasis on parity, and with the way the Wings are defying it, you'd have to think the NHL is trying to do something about it.

Mason looks nervous - hes giving up all kinds of rebounds. The Columbus D are protecting him well, though. Ozzie looks great. Our offense is doing a lot of good things, but I think they need to simplify it a bit. I wasn't too happy with our defense that period. Its nothing like it was last playoffs. We're lucky Columbus is a piss poor offensive club.

This period is too unbalanced for my taste. We need more offense.
