Not really.

Or, if he hasn't been shipped off, that means Holland is in the process of negotiating with prospective suitors. Funny how that works, huh? Negotiating trades apparently isn't as simple as a joystick and a TV would have it.
-
Thats a ridiculous assumption. Alex Bourret got a 3rd rounder. Jamal Mayers got a 3rd rounder. Jim Vandermeer got a 3rd rounder. Chad Kilger got a 3rd rounder. George Laraques got a 3rd rounder. Ryan Shannon got a 3rd rounder. If you trade Hudler, you're likely to get a 2nd rounder + a B-level prospect. We get it - you have a personal dislike for Hudler. But guess what? GMs don't let personal preference cloud their vision of a talented player. 25 year old 57 point players are worth worlds more than a 3rd round pick.
-
Then I guess you won't be happy. Conklin isn't getting signed, and Howard will be in the lineup.
-
If Detroit can't get something done with Hudler, they need to trade him ASAP. The Wings cant afford to give him 3M, and someone else definitely can. And apparently all a 3M offer-sheet warrants these days is a 2nd round pick - much less than Hudler is worth.
-
Ship him off, already. Its not like we can play the numbers game with the guy. If we can't afford what he wants, get rid of his rights.
-
"How could he have made a mistake on his chemistry exam when he got perfect scores on the previous two?!" Sound retarded? Thats what I thought. I'm with GMR on this one. Wake up, folks. Just because Holland is the best damn GM in the NHL doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes. He does - he just makes them with considerable less frequency than other GMs do. Kopecky was one of them, and we can be thankful it was a small mistake. End of story.
-
Scuderi is not average - hes quite solid, and underrated in most respects. Hes a good #5, who can fill in as an anchor #4, and is worth about 2-2.5M. And given that hes worth about 2-2.5M, he'll likely command 3-3.5M on the open market. Theres no way he signs for 1.5M on the open market. If that were his asking price, the Pens would have him signed, sealed, and delivered by now.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

People probably don't understand that we only have 1.5 million to play with.....because we have 4 million to play with. -
Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
YoungGuns1340 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
What, you mean Hossa isn't going to take a huge paycut to stay with the team? He doesn't want to spend the rest of his career in Detroit? Hes not happy here? HOW CAN THIS BE. Where are all the folks that "guaranteed" Hossa would re-sign with the Wings in the off-season? I couldn't be happier that hes going. The last thing I want is to see a pack of superstar forwards get complacent with lifetime contracts and decide they can't give it their all anymore despite having years left in them - it happens to the best of them. And no, he was never a great fit with this team. -
Best news all day! Kopecky is a dime a dozen - a player who excels at....nothing. I'd rather have a player in the lineup who excels at one thing, be it: 1) Fighting; 2) Veteran Leadership; 3) Experience; 4) Faceoffs; 5) Penalty Killing; 6) Hitting - the kind that actually leave a lasting impact; 7) The ability to stay on your feet when you skate.

1. What Dmen for the same price? Bouwmeester is going to the highest bidder, and the highest bidder will give him more than the 6.25 Pronger is making. 2. Why do people seem to think Lupul has good value? Hes a salary dump. Hes soft, mediocre, doesn't play defense, and makes 4.25M for the next FOUR seasons. Its a terrible contract thats only going to look worse once the cap goes down.

Jay Bouwmeester's Rights traded to Calgary
YoungGuns1340 replied to Heroes of Hockeytown's topic in General
No one is going to give Ottawa a decent package for any of those guys when they've put themselves a couple million over the cap by signing Bouwmeester, and why would Bouwmeester want to go to a sinking ship of a team anyways? He wants to go to a team with a future, not 2/3rds of a 1st line and a couple of shutdown Dmen. -
So were a lot of people, actually. The Peter Forsberg tag had been with Zetterberg for a long time. But pat yourself on the back, please.
-
Haha. An inverted Ericsson. Love it.

When was the last time the Wings drafted the son of a famous NHLer?
-
Who cares? He can play NHL hockey, and thats all he'll be called up to do, if he ever is called up - take a stroll on the ice to give the competent players a rest. We should all be honored to be fans of an organization that manages to treat their "family" with so much respect, and yet still ices one of the best teams in the NHL every year.
-
Um, no they don't. Oh noes! Philly added 1.25M in salary in the deal! If Rathje stays on LTIR, then they have 52.5M tied up in 17 players. God forbid, they only have 5M to sign a 7th Dman, a back-up goalie, two 4th liners, and a 13th forward.
-
I see what you did there...
-
How did Philly get raped? They got the best player in the deal, and Lupul is a shell of a player - a lazy player at that - who makes 4M+ to stink up the arena with soft play and mediocrity. It was basically a salary dump, and as we all know, two LATE 1st rounders don't guarantee anything. This is what Philly needs to plow through the East. A top 3 of Pronger, Timmonen, and Coburn is sick, and they've got the two-way talen in Richards, Giroux, and Gagne, among others to boot. If Emery holds up his end of the deal, they're easily the team to beat now.

Good for Bob. Nill says 1) the draft is comparable to 2003; and 2) the players ranked from 20-35th are pretty much a wash.
-
People said the same thing when we drafted Johan Franzen - some 24 year old - in the 3rd round.
-
I'm pretty sure I'll stick with Jim Nill's opinion over yours.
-
Carter Ashton is pretty much the worst name ever. I either want to Ashton Kutcher or Anson Carter. It sounds like everyone is referring to him as "Carter, Ashton"
-
Or a draft thats comparable to 2003. But whatever.
