    Tonights Wings Game...Minus 30 Minutes!

THis is such bulls***. I'm paying a ton of money to have a million channels and Center Ice so I can watch the games. Then VS does something asinine like this and I'm sitting here listening to the game on internet radio while it looks like the NY/NJ game could go to OT. Just F*&$%ing wonderful!

Hasek has sore back. Ozzie to start tomorrow night.

I disagree. If you have those concerns then he's not your starter anymore and you move Ozzy up. We don't know how bad this injury is. It could be a small thing but because of his age and the fact they don't need to win games right now they are resting him. But if he's your starter...then he gets most of the games.

Hasek has sore back. Ozzie to start tomorrow night.

The problem with that is that if Hasek is the guy you view as your #1 (that could change if his body can't hold up for any reason...but sitting out one game doesn't indicate that..just that he's getting a rest) then you have to play him the majority of the time so he's ready to do the same come the playoffs. You can't split time 50/50 and then expect him to jump to full time once the playoffs start.

    Brian Burke Says Something Smart

Much better to take the opportunities...the right opportunities...that come rather than jumping at deals just to make them. Case in point is what Colorado is doing. I can only assume they are concerned about their fan base so they're rebuilding what they can of their 'hay day' team. But I'm not convinced bringing these guys back will help them. Holland is a smart guy, too. He'll make the deals if they are the right deals to make. I'm sure that nothing has happened yet is not for lack of effort.

    Another 1st round playoff exit?

Wow...quite the attitude. The wings are in the middle of their worst slump in years and it coincides perfectly with massive injuries across the blueline. Players recover from injuries and slumps end. What has happened so far in the trading that suggests the Wings, once back to their form of a few weeks ago, would be so likely to fall out in the first round?

THN's Costello: Laperriere's hit on Lidstrom not dirty

I agree...not 'dirty'. The statement that it was a 'shoulder to shoulder' hit isn't completely accurate as he obviously got his elbow up into his head area a bit and while that is technically 'dirty' it's borderline enough and happens every single game. This one went bad for us but if we but out hits like this then hockey players might as well be choir boys.

    Class of the League

I've never been a fan of this guy but he really outdoes himself with this article entitle: 'At what point do transplant fans deserve to get grief?'. Read the article and some of the comments left by readers...amazing. When we move we should leave behind the jerseys and any support forour former team. We should be kinder, gentler people and not offend the natives in our new home as they may be sensitive and cannot handle this sort of aggrevation. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...&id=3248042

    Articles Regarding "The Call"

I forget what day of the week it happens because I'm always at work when it airs, but Bettman does a call-in show on XM where he actually takes calls from people and answers questions. I'm fairly certain they are still doing the show. However, if asked I'd expect him to skirt around it. I don't say that in a bad way...it's his job not to directly and publicly criticize his officials. But it might feel good to bring up the issue and see what it says. A link with the original press release regarding the show: http://xmradio.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=p...s&item=1533

Could Yzerman be the next Leaf's GM?

Seriously now...I love Stevie Y but he is hardly qualified for a job like that and especially not for the Leafs. They are going to go for someone with experience and a history of success in the mangement of a club. All the success Yzerman had as a player doesn't lend anything towards value as a GM.

    Euro-Problems

I think it's silly to suggest that Detroit fans aren't interested because of a strong makeup of European players. We've had a large percentage of European players for a while now, at least with our stars. In the 90s we have the Russian 5...and that was at the height of success for the Wings in terms of fan following. Additionally, the Detroit area is one of the most culturally integrated cities in the country. I could see that argument in Buffalo or Denver...but I think it's just natural and fitting to have that sort of a mix in Detroit.
  11. "Zäta's" radar-partner in Detroit, Pavel Datsuk, typed last summer one six-year contract that [gives him] a yearly salary of $43 million USD--and the total is worth over 300 million Swedish Kronor. I guess the translation is a little off....

    Babcock moving people around

My bigger issue is that I fail to understand why each year Babcock wants to split up the Datsuk/Zetts/Holmstrum line. They've provien to be uber productive and when they've been split up they have not been nearly as productive as when together, and they end up together again anyways. Leave that line alone...let them build on what they've done.

    Wings Article

Believe me...I think they had a strong season and did so much better than given credit for by most prior to the season or prior to each round of the playoffs. I love the Wings and am a huge fan. The statement that 'The Ducks didnt win that series they survived it' is true. But they survived because the Wings let them survive. Their play in the 3rd last night was unarguably beautiful. Bu they were sluggish and they underachieved through most of the 1st and 2nd. That is the same problem that got us knocked out early the last couple years. We made it much deeper this year. I understand that. But we went out earlier than we should have simply because of a lack of effort and sleeping through early periods. I'm not simply bashing the team for the sake of it. Teams lose all the time and I'm generally OK with it. When they lose due to uninspired effort, I get disappointed in what could have been. Yes, they earned some respect and yes thay have a strong future. But if this attitude cannot be overcome then all the talent in the world won't matter.

What I Realized From Game 4

We lost last night because of poor vision and passing while trying to exit out zone. We've had that problem in many of the games in each of the series. It's not about their defense taking it away, it's about us handing it over while they have speed moving across our blue line. Shots were only 39-23 in our favor and our guys seem to make sure as many of their 23 had as much impact as possible. There's also the 2 5 on 3 embarrassments but the main problem in that game was puck control while exiting our zone.

    Anaheim stats with/without Pronger

I don't know if these were posted yet. I did a quick search around and didn't see them. Anaheim’s record with Pronger available for 60 minutes: 38-11-19, 85 points in 58 games, a 120-point-season pace Anaheim’s record without Pronger available for 60 minutes: 6-8-3, 15 points in 17 games, a 72-point-season pace

    Redwings flashback: 2002

I was in downtown Denver at the Tin Lizzy surrounded shoulder to shoulder with a bar full of Wings fans. The Lizzy was located about 1/2 mile from the Pepsi Center and directly across the street from the Lizzy was a bar where Avs fans regularly hung out. Each bar was open on the street side and there was regular heckling going on across the street. It was a great day to be in Denver when the Wings killed their precious Avs.

It's just amazing to me that Nabby has such an obvious weakness and noone has been able to identify or benefit from it yet except for the author of this thread.

Copycat items to throw on ice by team

With all the copycats out there throwing items on the ice to mimic the Detroit tradition I thought it'd be fun to post items for other teams to throw, if they were to do so. Nashville - Obviously they've thrown catfish in the past San Jose - The introduction of the shark last night. Florida - They did plastic rats a few years ago. I actually didn't know there was a kooky reason for this. Mellanby killed a rat in their locker room with his stick that season. Some how that inspired fans to throw plastic ones on the ice. OK, not those that haven't done it in the past...I'll fill in the first few. Chime in with your own. Philadelphia - Cheesesteaks Boston - crab?? Buffalo - Hot Wings Washington - Blow up politicians Calgary - I think they actually threw steaks onto the ice in th past Colorado - how about their media...get rid of them one and for all Anaheim - dead ducks...duh! Los Angeles - botox Phoenix - golf clubs New jersey - Islanders - Rangers - Pittsburgh - Montreal - Ottawa - Toronto - Atlanta - Carolina - Tampa Bay - Chicago - Columbus - St Louis - Edmonton - Minnesota - Vancouver - Dallas -

    bench bert article today

Sure he takes some penalties. Everyone knows that about Bert. But I think his physical play (specifically against Thornton) in game 2, regardless of the penalties he took, is a big reason why we were able to keep the momentum our way. We lost games 1 and 3 because the team wasn't playing as hard, as a whole, as they needed to. The same reason, by the way, that we exited early last year.

    Kara Yario suggests...

I used shootout stats from http://jeays.net/shootout/index.htm. I'm assuming it's accurate but have not verified it. It's just the first google hit I had that contained shootout wins. Given that, here is the list of teams in order by their "adjusted" standings taking in to account the points they got from shootouts (but not dealing with tie breakers). The last 2 columns are 'SO Wins' and 'Adjusted'. Adjusted is equal to 'Pts' - 'SO Wins'. Of course this does not account for the manner in which a team would play in the 5 minute overtime. With the shootout they might play more defensively to get to the shootout while lacking a shootout they'd play for the win in the 5 minutes of overtime. I apologize for the formatting but I didn't have time to make it pretty. Basically this shows the same teams in the West would have made it in but seeded differently (Detroit would still be #1 and we'd still be playing Calgary first round). The east is different. The Islanders and Tampa Bay would be out and Carolina and Toronto would be in. Someone help me out with the tie breakers but I think the Rangers might even have been out of it with Montreal taking their place. They would have equal points and wins but I can't remember if GF is the next tie breaker or if it's the GF/GA differential. Floppa back to Colorado? According to Dever Post...

First off, he probably should not come back to any team next year. His injury history is fact of that. He doesn't actually play with a team enough to make enough of a contribution. Second, Nashville will probably try to hold on to him. Third, because of #1 above any team would be insane to pick him up. Fourth, attendance and excitement for the Avs in Denver is at an alltime low. WIth them out of the playoffs it could get bad. I think this is an attempt by the local media to try to get the fans excited at a time when their team missed the playoffs for the first time, are not going to games in the masses they were previously, and are letting season tickets expire.

    We'll be playing Calgary...

This whole Avalanche thing is starting to make me nervous. They seemed like a rediculous longshot a few weeks ago and now noone seems to be able to beat them. The real scary thing is that we can't seem to play until somewhere in the second period and the Avs don't have a problem putting them in the back of the net lately. We could get in trouble real quick. GO OILERS!!

    Terry Frei Article

It's a good article...the surprising thing were the negative references to the powers that be at the Pepsi Center and some other references that I believe were talking about the Denver fans and Altitude commentators. Very nice Frei...you grew a pair.

    The Avs commentator

I thin k McNab's first national game was actually an Avs gane and he carried about as badly as when he's covering the local broadcast on Altitude. I haven't seen him do a national game for the Avs since...I bet he got himself a talking to from the network guys after the first game.
