actually, he did break a rule, and did deserve a penalty. it shouldn't have been a trip, though, it should have been a clip. rule 45.1 clipping: Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent. A player or goalkeeper may not deliver a check in a “clipping†manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent’s knees. An illegal “low hit†is a check that is delivered by a player or goalkeeper who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player or goalkeeper may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees. it's a minor penalty. majors are handed out if injury occurs. match penalties are handed out at the refs discretion, game misconducts are given if an injury occurs, suspensions/fines are at the discretion of the commish. the right call was made, no one was hurt, and hasek wasn't trying to hurt gaborik.

i've seen some of the guys on northern's team do this before games. they'll take a couple laps around the rink first, then go out on the ice and work on basic stick handling and accuracy shooting, then kick around a soccer ball off the ice. i figure it's just easier to keep the shoes on. there was a few times where i was helping with silent auctions (setting up and whatnot), and i'd be there 4 hours before the game, and they'd be in flipflops on the ice, just playing with the puck. it's probably more common than you'd think.

boo, huskies you should come down for the northern/tech game, those are great. i think the misfits are organizing a big caravan down here for it. not bad for the prices, but you can't beat northern's deal. one time fee: $100 your freshman year. free tickets to every home sporting event for as long as you're in school after that. no alumni game for me, i get to work all day instead
