  1. first off, if a team ended up in wisconsin, it wouldn't be in green bay. it's probably be in milwaukee, maybe madison. secondly, hockey is far from huge in wisconsin. wisconsin is a die hard football state, with baseball coming in second. most of the wisconsinites i've met up here at northern never went to or even watched a hockey game until they went to the wildcat games here. the badgers pull in decent numbers, but even though they've had great success over the past few years (both men's and women's), they're still vastly overshadowed by football and ncaa basketball. the admirals don't get bad attendance, but it's not great, either (last season, they averaged 5700). in short, i doubt an nhl team would do much better in wisconsin than the preds have in nashville.

How many here have played hockey?

that's kind of what happened to me. i remember asking my parents to let me play when i was 5 or 6, but my dad said "girls don't play hockey." he wanted me to do dance and band instead (which i did do for awhile). when i started going to northern, i enrolled in the skating class a few times, then started taking the hockey class. now i skate with a few women's teams, just for fun though. if i have the time and the money next season, i might play in a few tourneys. luckily, my dad's ok with it now. although, i think that has more to do with seeing my sister and i getting hurt from horseback riding, than with hockey at all.

haha, thanks. that's a good enough compliment for me in my defense, loogie hawking is necessary when you're playing beer pong in a barn. there's some nasty stuff that falls in the cups from the ceiling

    NHL needs to improve marketing

is the channel RFD? i get that at home, i like it for some of their horse training shows. reindeer's an awesome bull, i'm not surprised his offspring are selling high. i'm surprised more sports fans don't get into bullriding, especially hockey, football and nascar (if you count that as a sport) fans. i think, much like hockey, people just haven't given it much of a chance, or don't grow up around it to realize how much fun it is. i love how it's growing, though. i was stoked to find out there's now an event at the palace. unfortunately, i'm stuck in the u.p. until i finish school, or else i'd be there.

    NHL needs to improve marketing

another bullriding fan?!?!?! i never thought i'd see that here. if anyone wants to see more clips, or just some basic info, check out pbrnow.com. i absolutely love these guys. justin mcbride, cory rasch, travis briscoe, brenden clark, chris shivers, they're all great. they actually remind me a lot of hockey players. completely badass, typically humble, down to earth, easy to talk to, blue collar, tough as nails etc. plus, the way the pbr works, you're always seeing the best bulls and riders. there's the "built ford tough" series, then the "challenger" series. the lowest point getters in the bft series get switched out with the top point getters in the challenger series. the stuff on espn and fsd is a joke. it's typically the prca, not the pbr. both the bulls and riders are worse. then there are the bulls. contrary to popular belief, these animals are NOT abused. they're bred and trained to buck, and if you watch certain bulls (see little yellow jacket [recently retired] or my personal favourite: reindeer dippin), they love every minute of it. lyj would even stop in the middle of the arena after he bucked off a rider, kinda look into the stands, then strut out the shoot, it was hilarious. so much personality with them. the promotions the pbr has are great, too. after every event, the riders go around signing autographs. there's a big promotion going on now that will give a share of a top bull to a winner for a year. of course, there's also fantasy bull riding. pbr fans are popping up everywhere. they just had the first world cup with riders from the u.s., canada, brazil, mexico and australia in teams. there's now events all over the u.s. (including grand rapids, and auburn hills), with others in mexico and australia. ok...i'im done gushing

    I want to kill myself...

there's actually a hockey class they offer at northern, so, i'm enrolled in that (again). i'll probably skate with one of the women's groups i joined late this season, too. unfortunately, none of this starts until september. i'm pretty sure drop-in is over at both mqt rinks, too. it makes for a long summer, but as long as i stay busy, i'll be fine. besides, the wait just makes it all the better come september.

    Mandatory Visors?

this is exactly how i feel. i was a lot of college hockey, at least 20 games live each season. the dirty stick work up in and around the players' faces absolutely sickens me. this year, there was one time i distinctly remember when northern's star player, mike santorelli, got slashed across the cage. no call. i was horrified that someone would even do that, full cage or not. added to that that it wasn't being penalized and it made the whole ncaa look like a joke to me. i think part of the high stick problems are that so many players have used full cages when in juniors or college, and they come into the nhl without the respect needed. the ncaa will never allow college players to play without cages, though, and rightfully so, as most of these guys are not going to play pro hockey. they need the protection. as far as the nhl goes, mandatory visors get a big no from me. i'd hate to see what happens in college happen in the nhl.

Let's give Versus a little love here

i love versus (yeah, that's right, i said it). this is in part that i'm also a HUGE bullriding fan, and recently they have had lacrosse and showing jumping on (also sports i enjoy). i realize the quality of broadcasts aren't great, the commentators and play by play guys are better elsewhere, and that games on center ice get blacked out when they're also shown on versus (at least, i think so, i can't afford center ice, so i don't know first hand). however, aside from all of that, they're still showing much, much more hockey than any other network ever would. even cbc's broadcast stopped last night after the devils/lightning game, while vs. picked up the tsn feed for the remainder of the predators/sharks game. personally, i'd rather have crappily broadcasted hockey on tv than none at all. as far as a half hour wrap up show goes, it's not very good, but it's called "hockey central". they briefly review all the games that night. it's usually on after the last game, which, obviously can be pretty late. it's on tonight at 10:30, if you want to watch. also, i know they've been showing "nhl on the fly final," which, i think comes from tsn. this is on even later, scheduled for 1am (right after some bullriding, woohoo!). i think over the next few years, it's only going to get better. like auxlepli said, people just need to give versus a chance. some of the complaints are ridiculous, anyway. the set sucks?? go watch "***** eye for the straight guy" if that bugs you that much.

Time warp: 2001, wings lose in 6, give up 2-0 lead

i'll take common phrases for 100, alex. plenty of people are upset, make no mistake, but it's not going to do any good to freak out and ***** online about it. for the life of me, i'll never understand how people can freak out over one game that clearly the wings played horribly in, yet were still in the game. it was lost on two 5-on-3 goals for crying out loud. with some better special teams (as pointed out by nearly everyone), the wings would've had that game. calm the hell down, seriously. it's a best of 3, and there's still two games at home. the wings are far from out of it right now.
