    What will..

dicksmack shall quaff a coldie or three during the game, some mid-range champagne at the end of the game, and then switch to Red Bull for the monster poker game afterwards... I always get my ass kicked if I drink during poker... Oh, and of course, some Vancouver Island outdoor along the way

Babcock to Wings: Have fun in Game 7

At first all of this "have fun" talk was a bit concerning, as though they were focusing more on the experience than the result. But when you think about it, how can they not be 100% engaged? For a team with a veteran core that's pretty much done it all, along comes something new: a game seven, and a home game at that! If they show up and play their game, they will do just fine. The refs and freaky bounces are my only concerns. Just when you think the refs have put the whistles away, they will call an interference penalty to letter of the law; it's hard to know what the line is sometimes. At least the bounces are somewhat predictable at home!

    Chance of winning Friday

What the hell are you bringing up these dusty old stats for? Pretty dumb. As for THIS SERIES, home ice is all that counts. We got it, so we got it.

When Pavel Met Evgeni--The turning point of the series

Obviously, turning points are identified in hindsight and for all we know (though I doubt it) a turning point could eventually be identified as happening tonight or in game 4. The successful pk on it's own isn't much. Pavel rocking Malkin and taking the puck away with ease showed everyone that he is certainly in game shape and then some. It showed that Zetterberg will have very capable help with dealing with 87 and 71, esp. in Pittsburgh. We remembered that we have 3 bona fide superstar forwards to their two and they are all great two-way players. Franzen is no slouch either.

When Pavel Met Evgeni--The turning point of the series

He should expect his foot to be targeted? Honestly, I figured a lot of shots and passes would be bouncing off of Pavel's feet by the basket load 'cause at least you can say you didn't mean it. I didn't think they were THAT dumb...but I guess they are. Talbot's actions were clearly trying re-injure Pav's foot. It's the lowlife kind of thing Gary Roberts tried on Franzen last time around. It's no way to try to win and it just backfires on you. If you're unsuccessful, you just piss the other team off and look like the s***head you are and if you are successful, the other team will take your star's head off next. It shows that Talbot knows they have no chance in Hell to beat the Wings fairly.

Words that need to be banned from Hockey Vocabulary

Anything from Pierre but esp.: "Big body presence" and "intensity level" Doc saying a Red Wing got "mashed" when it's a minor hit. CBC guys talk about a "foot race" for the puck as though there's another kind in hockey.

    Some Thoughts Before Game 6

If the Wings can stay out of the box in Pittsburgh, they will win. The Pens can't handle us 5 on 5. MAF is known for the GAFFE: he crumbles under pressure. Taking that drubbing in Motown won't do much to help a guy who is already shaky in final games. I think the Wings are going to win the cup, it's just a matter of whether it's on the road or at home. Somehow, while I know it's tough to have the cup come down to one game (as anything can happen) a game 7 at home has it's appeal. I just think the Pens cannot win at the Joe. If we take it again in their rink it'll be sweet, if we take it at home, all the better!

    datsyuk levels malkin

Thing of beauty. Pavel announces his return with the hit, the steal and the pass out front on Mr. Big.

    MVP - Ozzie or Hank

I think it will go to Ozzie, should the Wings win again. He's been stellar the whole post season and this shutout in a crucial game probably sealed it for him.

    datsyuk's foot

Maxine out there acting like a *****. That's one of the cheapest moves I've ever seen. It makes you think the Pens feel that they have absolutely no chance against a full compliment of Red Wings so, they have to resort to this.

Why I think the Wings will win...

You rarely see a player come back from a moderately severe injury and take a playoff game over. Due to the intensity level, most times they do ok or are kinda invisible. Once they get their legs and timing back, they usually return to form. Well Pav doesn't have that luxury so it's a good thing he's a rare player. Actually, I'm hoping his presence galvanizes the team's identity as champs and the Wings return to Red Machine form. Nobody can beat us when we are on our game and confident.

    Thoughts from the Penguin's Nest

The way I look at it, it's still advantage Wings. The Wings are now in a best of 3 for the cup with 2 of those games at home. I'm not surprised that the Pens have countered back--In my work pool, I went with Wings in 7 and had a few chuckles tossed my way. I thought it would be a homer series with home ice being the deciding factor in the Wings favor. I think the Wings aren't a team that can get rattled easily, and if they do, they can regain their composure and bear down, esp. if they are in a must win game. It's that veteran experience and composure. I chalk up the loss yesterday to fatigue. With Datsyuk likely playing, Z can have some help with the two-way game. Guys that come back from injury don't usually make a big impact until they settle in but a Datsyuk at 80% is still something special. Rafalski has had bad games before and then gone on a scoring tear to make up for it. I think the Wings will take the next game with a clear win on home ice. Some are comparing the Staal shortie goal with the Lidstrom goal against the Nucks. First of all it's pre-mature and, secondly, we aint the Vancouver Canucks. The Wings bring it in must-win games and Ozzie is giving us a chance to win...

    TSN bashing the officiating

You quoted my post. I suppose the Wings players had nothing better to do than to sit around and make up stuff about the refs. It's not like these guys are champions or anything. When Madoff was originally suspected of fraud--guess what? He initially dismissed the allegations as "conspiracy theories."
