I think the NHL is making a mistake by over-hyping Crosby. Promotion is one thing but people tire of the same thing constantly in their face. I mean, if he had Datsyuk's skill level that would be different....

While they are probably planning the parade route in Van already, it's just one game. I'd expect the Hawks to pull it together and perhaps lay a licking on the Nucks next game. Watching two teams battle that you don't like, you just hope it's a long, exhausting 7 game ordeal and the winner staggers to the finish line...

The ancient wisdom on this is that it was the punch and especially the driving of his face into the ice that did the damage. The Canucks got spanked by the Avs on their home ice and Bert acted out in the heat of the moment. It's not excusable, however, but if Moore would have faced him and dropped the gloves, the refs would have been there to save him at some point.

Yeah, a guy coming back from a concussion I think gets a pass when he takes a punch in the head from some goon that was likely trying to re-injure him. But I recall Franzen having an embarrassing dive one other time--was it against Calgary? Other than that, Franzen is a big strong, physical player who's a playoff beast, so anybody that calls him a diver is a loser. Those refs must be embarrassed to have been fooled by Setoguchi twice within seconds and with big ramifications for the Wings both times (4 minute penalty lost/ 5 on 3 against) I don't think 5 on 3's should be given out freely with phantom calls ever, let alone in the playoffs!

Those would be penalties against the Wings (between the puck drop and final horn)! Hopefully the guys tonight do a good job and we don't get jobbed in the Jobing barn--but I wouldn't hold your breath.

In my view, those calls against Vancouver were correct and ballsy as hell. 7 guys on the ice and Sedin went beyond turning his skate blade and propelled the puck with a slight kick. If the refs had the stones to call that too many men against Pittsburgh last finals, perhaps the Wings could have bagged one on the pp as well.

Good news... I doubt the Wings will trade him; he will almost certainly play for us next year. He's scored 26 pts in his last two playoff runs with the Wings, so he's welcome back in my book...

Esteef rocks. I can live with the non-call on the interference on Helm because it appeared as though both players were expecting a scrambled draw and headed for the circle. That kind of stuff happens in the playoffs and as long as it is called or not called consistently, It doesn't impact the outcome of the game. The Lidstrom high stick was a case where the refs clearly saw it and chose not to give the Wings a 5 on 3 with a second 2 minutes added on for the high stick. Even the linesmen can call a high stick so don't tell me they didn't see it. Other than that, I had no issue with the officiating.

Pierre LeBrun's (ESPN) pick is Datsyuk I still think Datsyuk is a good candidate and he will at least be a finalist. There's no one to point to say they are the favorite. Datsyuk's 70 pts, +17, #1 rank in takeaways put's him right up there. There's no better stick checker in the game and I'd venture to say he's among the best ever at this.

Crosby's league leading junk assists total would nullify any fantasy tiebreaker (The Fred Sanford award?)

<br /><br /><br />Vancouver is also the team I'm most concerned about in the first round. I'm not so sure the Nucks made us look that bad as we took the season series handily. However, their offense is top notch, their D is good and they have do have Luongo after all... Zetterberg can definitely score at will on Luongo; Hank has Lu's # big time so if Z should falter, we are in big trouble. Another concern is how we lost the second last game vs them at the Joe. They were chucking pucks at the net for deflections (one of their trademarks) and Howard really struggled with this in the 6-3 loss. We need to remember that Luongo's achilles heel is that he doesn't like those passing plays that get him moving side to side and he esp. doesn't like #40 coming down on him!

And then we will relax a bit as usual when Jimmy shuts the door...

I love how Howard knows that Crosby is a little ***** and promptly clobbers him. Love it!
