Flames Lose!

If Hank always played with the intensity he showed last night, he'd be unstoppable... That's sort of a back-handed compliment but I don't buy the "he's just worn out" crap it seems to be due to a lack of desire.

Val was dominant last night!

Homer is truly the best at what he does and has more skill than he gets credit for. Two years at 1.75m and call it a career.

Datsyuk is best two-way forward in the game and it's not even close. Nobody can do the things he does out there... Noooooobody. He's won the Selke twice with less pk time than other notables... so why should it be the deciding factor now? He's not a lock by any stretch and frankly I'd be surprised if he did given Detroit's questionable team defense and goaltending this year. If he had Kesler's goalie, he might be a lock.

I don't have a good feeling about this game...

Where's the "Mute Pierre" Button? Pierre sucks Blackhawk.

Franzen had a great game tonight... at least someone in a Wings jersey did... You can see why he was signed before Hossa.

Team USA is to be congratulated on their amazing showing at the Olympics. In a word, it's about speed. Wow... The Americans seemed to gain the Canadian zone a lot easier than the reverse in the gold medal game. I'm really not surprised as I put the US team in the gold medal game before the start of the games.

Most left-handers like me shoot right and I always figured it was because you often carry the puck with your (dominant) left hand if you shoot right and the reverse if you shoot left.

Quite the game. I must admit I called Crosby in overtime on Friday... I knew it would be that close and since Crosby hadn't done jack... Take that Pat Caputo!

I've loved it when Russians have won most of our North-Amero-trash NHL Awards... We all have unguarded moments when speaking but as noted above, the Olympics are a particularly bad time to go all Don Cherry on the air.

You can't put all of this on Babcock. The entire team including Babcock didn't have a great night. But I agree he's a bit over-rated. Babcock refuses to make line changes until it's too late. He insists on going with 2 pp units whether or not only one is firing, often putting the slumping one out first and leaving 20 second dregs for the better unit. He won't call a time out like last night and rest the Crosby line that was all over the Americans at the end and put them back out--instead of going with the Sharks' top line that's known for choking under pressure. Many coaches would have pulled a goalie who made a play like Brodeur's paddle whack try...

Now I see why Rafi has sucked so badly from the Wings' blueline--he was saving it for Vancouver...

I like Babcock but that was another sad display of coaching. He stuck with the Sharks' top line with game breakers like Iginla and Crosby playing second fiddle. In the end, it was one of those two who saved his ass. At least he give him another go. Anybody would have done that though (except for the Russian coach).
