Well if he had to choose between Sopel and Downey, I would pick Downey for the simple fact that we are real deep on D. Even if one of our Dmen get injured, we have the luxury of 2 or 3 other guys that could step in and perform at NHL level. Guys like Quincey, Kindl, and Meech all have what it takes to step into that 6th spot if needed. Downey brings something to the Wings that they lack and that is an enforcer. Yes I know Downey doesn't win much fights but I believe him and Drake could provide an adequate mean edge to the entire roster.

I honestly think the Wings are going to be better this year. I think we have become better defensively with the addition of Rafalski and increased knowledge for the youngsters. Also, we get faster on offense with the loss of our slowest players. Not to mention we have a secret weapon known as the Dominator. I can't wait to make this guy eat his words. GO WINGS!!!

Well Horcoff will be a UFA in 2 years. You never know what might happen in that time.

I really like the new Caps jersey mostly because I liked the old school one too and the logo is quite similar. BTW, i heard some people on here talk about the new Pens jersey but i can't find pics of it anywhere. Does anyone have any links to that? Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the info skacore. Yeah, i guess i really don't see Kopecky being a fighting goon because he doesn't strike me as that type but at least Drake can teach him some old dog tricks as well as some stuff he picked up along the way. I'm excited to see what those two as well as Maltby can do on a line.

With Babs mentioning that Drake will be mentoring Kopecky, do you think Drake might teach him a few things about fighting? Not sure if Drake really has even fought before so someone could help me out on that but there might be a chance Kopecky could be that guy.

We'll be fine on defense. But we NEED to stay healthy. That's the key.

While I partly agree with the higher ticket prices and lack of "superstar" statuses as to why there are less people at the Joe, I also believe there are a few other factors that develop this outcome: 1. Technology: Many people today like myself have Center Ice which enables us to view any and all Detroit Red Wings we wish at the privacy and comfort of our own house. The hassels of traffic jams, parking, and high concession prices are eliminated and we can even watch it on our own time by recording it adding to the benefit. I realize this is hardly a consilation to actually attending a Red Wings game at the Joe, but it is a nice alternative to people in and out of state. 2. Location: This speaks for itself. Many Red Wings fans like myself don't live in Michigan therefore can't attend as many games as we would like. Plus, there are plenty of Red Wings fans all over the country and the World that either don't have the transportation, the money, or the time to attend a game (See #1) 3. Promotional tickets: There are tickets that radio stations, businesses, and other establishments buy in order to hand out as prizes to people and they either sit in their offices due to unclaimed winners or lack the effort to promote them properly. 4. Season ticket holders: Some of these people just plain don't show up to every game or move and can't sell them. As you can see there are plenty of factors that can contribute to a poor attendance figure. Each and every arena has seen at least one of these factors and will continue to do so.

Oh ok, that probably makes sense but I thought they take those out of the same year's salary cap and not the next. I could be wrong but then why wouldn't every team just go over the cap then if they knew it wouldn't affect them until the next year?

If we were to sign Cammy, Penner, or Ryder to longer term contracts (3-4 years), why couldn't we just dump salary when it comes time to resign Z?? Ottawa just did it with Schaefer to make room for Emery. Who's to say a player currently on the Wings roster might have a couple bad seasons or get injured long term? God forbid any kind of thing like that from happening but there is always a chance (Fischer). Plus, there has been talk about the salary cap rising even more next season and possible ballooning each year after that. I believe we would be alright with that type of situation as long as it is fitting to the future of the organization and our chances of winning the cup this coming year.

Of course if Holland took cues from someone that forgets one of our best forwards in Cleary, we would probably end up with a team like the Columbus Blue Jackets...lol

So who are we giving up to eat the $6M that Feds comes with and what money do we have to acquire Selanne after that??? Not a likely outcome my friend
