  1. Jeff Petry will probably be the next player the Oilers discuss in trades, according to HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman. (Sat. Jan. 3rd) I've seen him play quite a bit this year and he would be a nice addition to our blue line. I have no idea what the Oil would want in a trade for him but it would be worth pursuing as he has a great stick, which he uses to break up the rush and make good first passes out of the zone. He's not going to overwhelm anyone with his offence but he plays a nice safe game and did chip in with 7 goals and 10 assists last year. He's Dan Petry's (former Tiger's pitcher for you puck only folks) son and he was born in Michigan too so you would think he may welcome a return to his mother state. He's only 28 so not a rental and he was a 2nd round pick so maybe a 2nd tier prospect (Ferraro?) and a 3rd round pick would get it done? Or how about Kindl for Petry straight up? Oh, and there's also the little matter of him being a RIGHT handed shot too! For The Love Of God Kenny, do something about our crappy D and GET IT DONE! Do we need to start a petition? Bombard Kenny with anonymous emails? Start sending highlight reels of Petry in to the Wings front office? What can we do to end the era of the only Kindle who can't read (a play) and let Quincey take the 7th D spot?

    Time for Teemu?

Stephen? Is that you? lol We'll put you on the first line when you earn it my friend; this ain't Florida!!

Mantha Still Hopes to Play in Detroit This Season

Can't see it; unless we have 3 or 4 guys go down and even then I would think Callahan or Ferraro is ahead of him development wise. I would say patience is prudent with him. Coming off an injury, adapting to a league of men rather than boys, and his first real taste of pro hockey. Lots of adjustments; let's just leave him alone to find his game and when he starts leading his team/league in a couple years like Teemu has done then we can bring him up for a taste. This method has worked well for us in the past, (Tatar, Nyquist, Sheehan) so let's not break the mold or rush this kid. We need him to develop into a 1st line scorer, not a 3rd liner.
  4. I like the Smith for Petry idea... someone send a text to Kenny. I wouldn't be in favour of throwing in picks or prospects though. Edmonton knows Petry is gone at the end of this season and Smith is still an RFA at the end of this season. Based on his play/ice time I can't see him seeking a significant raise from his reasonable 1.26m cap hit. If he turns into the next Niedermayer then so be it, but I really can't see it as I think the "potential" tag with him has worn off somewhat and the Smith we see now won't be that different from the Smith we'll see 5-7 years down the road. It's one of the great mysteries of the world as to why he thinks he can pass the puck THROUGH opposing players when he's trying to break out of his own end. He's done this consistently ever since he played his first game with the Wings and still hasn't learned his lesson despite many, many, many turnovers. If he hasn't corrected this by now then he likely never will. That's just his style; go for the high risk, low percentage pass up the middle, between the opposing player's body/legs/stick/jockstrap. Although if the Oilers would take both Smith AND Kindl off our hands for Petry I would personally buy their GM a week's supply of curly fries!

Brodeur retires. Named Sr. Advisor to Blues GM

Where's Ozzy on this list?? If I recall from his last broadcast he was very very, very very, good. lol
  6. We (Holland) really missed the boat on Leddy and Boychuck... they would have made a great 2nd pairing here for years to come. If we're waiting for Sproul/Marchenko/Jensen to play to that level it's at least 5 yrs down the road. We need some D'men to bridge that gap now if we're going to seriously contend in the playoffs. Petry would be a great start but I think we need at least one other top 4 D too and from what I've seen up to this point Smith and Kindl should be moved to make room.
  7. On my depth chart I have him ahead of Smith, Kindle, Quincey, Lashoff and about on par with Ericsson... Those guys that are likely to be NHL players in the next two years aren't going to help us much in the playoffs this year, I'd kinda like to win a series or two, or three. I like our chances of getting home ice advantage to start the playoffs and winning a couple series much better with Petry in the lineup, especially on the pk. I shudder when I see Smith or Quincey on the pk cause they handle the puck like it's a live grenade in our own end when they're under pressure on the pk.

1/7 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Flames 2

Pav knew that line for Calgary was tired and just danced through them after a good minute in their zone... only thing missing was the top shelf finish. I'm still amazed how someone his size can protect the puck so well against D-men who have 4 inches and 40 pounds on him.

I hated it when Babs would put Sammy "The Shin-guard Assassin" on the point for the PP - that clown gave up more short handed chances singlehandedly than the entire rest of the team did. I am starting to hate the decision to put Weiss back there on the PP as well. I have no idea why Babs does this consistently. You don't really gain very much by putting a mediocre forward up there - an elite forward for his passing and vision I could see, but Sammy? Weiss? C'mon, just put a couple D back there and let them pass it around and not get burned like Weiss just did. There are days that I think Babs is a genius, and then there are days when I think he's just too stubborn to admit it when something doesn't work!

1/7 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Flames 2

Oh god yes. Unfortunately some twit who shall not be named gave Jakoff an insane amount of cash for the next couple years which has not only rendered him useless but sadly untradable as well. I would just waive him, maybe the Leafs will claim him on the way down...

    Time for Teemu?

We don't need to trade Jurco. Just get rid of Cleary and call up Teemu! Alternate Jurco/Teemu in the lineup and see what he's got. I would even sit Franzen and Weiss a time or two to see if they can step up their game. We would still have Andersson for "depth" and it would give Teemu some experience at the NHL level. If he performs like Gus did last year then so be it. Give the spot to him and Jurco can watch a few games till someone gets injured. The odds of Mule going the next 40 games without an injury are slim to none; he's more accident prone than teenagers on prom night lol. Put Teemu on the third line with Sheehan as his center to feed him the puck just below the faceoff dot so he can unleash that wicked one-timer. Tatar-Dats-Abby Gus-Z-Helm Mule-Sheehan-Teemu Miller-Glendening-Weiss Jurco/Andersson (Cleary waived/GR) Kronner-Ericsson Dekeyser-Petry Smith-Oullette Quincey/Lashoff (GR?) (Kindl taken out)

    Time for Teemu?

Absolutely! Imagine if we would have had Gus on our roster last year all the way from training camp. It's f@cking ludicrous that Cleary and Andersson are taking up roster spots over Teemu right now. I could see it if he was struggling down there or this was his first year in the AHL but he's leading his fricking league in goals! He also fits a niche need that we have right now for a right handed shot (HARD, ACCURATE right handed shot no less). I realize Kenny wants the prospects to be over-ripe before we bring them up but there's also a point where you have to bring them up if they're better players than what you have on your roster. It killed me last year to see some of the scrubs we were trying to recycle rather than giving Gus and Tatar a chance. Oullette needs to stay up, Teemu needs to be called up. Cleary needs to be DFA'd/waived, Kindl needs to be taken out; (Like to dinner? No, like "taken out", put down, double-tapped, wacked. Whaaaaat??). Then we trade for another solid D so Q can play his more natural position - 7th D-man press box.
  13. Why? Granted, they're a s***ty team right now, but Petry is one guy who stands out in a good way for them on a nightly basis. He's not the reason they're losing. Good teams in the playoff picture of Cup hunt aren't going to trade away their assetts so you have to look for good players on bad teams who want to deal for the future. If you're hoping for a Weber or Keith to come available at the trade deadline you're going to be dissapointed lol.

    Are the Wings a Contender?

Kyle??? Is that you?? Always wondered if the players trolled the boards on their off days... jk/not jk?
  16. daniel1

    Are the Wings a Contender?

Teams that won't be contending this year (no playoffs) and have a D that could help: Yotes - Yandle Panthers - B. Campbell Sabres - Meszaros Sens- Phillips Canes - Hainsey/Gleason Flyers - Grossman/Del Zotto/Luke Schenn Stars - Daly Oilers - Ferrence Couple other potential targets if their teams tank it over the next couple months: Sharks - Burns Wild - Ballard Jets - Mark Stuart Devils - Zidlicky Granted, some of theses guys would not exactly be "top 4" D but I would sooner put skates on my dog and send him out on the 3rd pair than watch Kindl play another game for the Wings. I can't believe how many absolutely stupid, dumb, retarded, brain-fart plays he makes EVERY game. I would even prefer Oulette to Kindl at this point after watching Xavier play a few games with the Wings. Quincey can slide into the 7th D man spot in the press box too if we could trade for a top 4 guy like Burns/Phillips/Ferrence/Grossman. We seem to have depth at forward in the system so ship off a young forward and a 2nd/3rd round pick for a defensmen. I'd do it sooner than later as the closer to the trade deadline we get the higher the price will be as everyone will be looking. Start talking to the Oilers, Stars, and Flyers now as they need a shake up. Do you hear me Kenny H.????

    Why is Kindl not playing?

He sucks. He sucked when he was first brought up. He sucked after spending most of his career in the press box. He sucked last year. He sucked again this year. He. Just. Sucks.

    11/9 GDT - Tampa Bay 4 at Detroit 3 (SO) - 6:00 PM EST

Darren "hands of stone" Helm on the shootout? Uh, was Z injured at the end of the game? How bout Franzen? I'm pretty sure that either of them has scored more goals in ONE season that Helm has in his entire career... How can you honestly leave Z on the bench to watch as a 3rd/4th line center takes the final spot in the shootout? Seriously Babcock, what's next? Quincey? Mrazek? Maybe it's time he did go elsewhere...

Kindl SUCKS. He has SUCKED for years. He needs to be released, traded, pushed out of the plane, whatever. I've never seen someone make so many bad passes, dumb plays, stupid decisions and giveaways in one game in my life. There is a reason he has been a career scratch/7th D the entire time he has been with the Wings. Bring up Oulette or Sproul, or even a really good Bantam player to replace him.

    Brunner's rookie status?

I've been impressed by Brunner so far this year, he seems to be a fairly complete player and has been defensively responsible as well as lighting the lamp on a consistent basis. I was worried that he would be another Brunnstrom and not live up to the hype of having had success in an overseas league but I've been pleasantly surprised. His six goals so far leads all rookies, which bring me to my question of his eligibility for the Calder. I know the NHL put in the Makarov rule the year he won it but I'm not sure what the age restriction was? Brunner was born in 1986 so that would make him 27, is that too old to win the Calder award? What does everyone think Brunner's ceiling is after seeing him for about a quarter of the season? I would not be surprised to see him score over 30 in a regular 82 game season, especially if he stays on Z's line. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 20 this in this abreviated season even. Also, that got me thinking about who the last Red Wing to win the Calder was? I remember Barasso beating out Stevie Y in his rookie season, Feds scoring 31 in his rookie season but Eddie the Eagle "If you had a million dollars would you let me go" Belfour beating him out that year and Barret Jackass, er, Jackman being selected over Z in his rookie year (possibly the worst ever Calder selection) so, without running to Google, who can tell me the last Wing to win the Calder?

    Ferraro CHIRPING Phaneuf

Couldn't have happened to a better guy; Phaneuf is the tool of all tools to the point where his Calgary teammates didn't care if he was traded for two pucks and an ice scraper as long as he was gone.

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

I was listening to the NHL channel on Sat. radio this weekend and one of their people confirmed that the NHL had given a loan to the Devils this year to help make payroll. I know they've got lots of cap space but it sure sounds like ownership might not have the money to sign him. I've also read on a few hockey websites that he doesn't want to sign in Jersey anyways as they aren't close to competing for a cup and it doesn't look like they will be anytime soon either. He's making 6m this year on a one-year deal so I would hope he could be signed long term for a similar number per year.
  23. daniel1

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

Parise: I've heard from multiple sources that Devil's ownership can't afford what Zach Parise will be asking to re-sign him. We have the money to sign him (even long term) if we let Hudler walk and give Parise his cap money plus a few million more. He's young, a scorer, and plays hard every shift. I think he wants to win and may even take a bit less to play for a perennial contender. He would basically take Hudler's spot on the second line and we would upgrade from a soft, one-dimensional 20 goal scorer to a grittier, two-way 40 goal scorer without too much of in increase in salary cap (6.5m for Parise minus Hudler's 2.875m = an increase of 3.625m). This would significantly upgrade our offense and give us two legitimate scoring threats (Franzen and Parise) on our top two lines. Parise would help our PP out quite a bit too. Something to consider here is Jersey's imminent need for a top goaltender once Brodeur retires (I hear he wants to play one more year?). We have possibly the best junior goaltending prospect on the planet in Mrazek. If I were Holland, I would start with Mrazek, a pick, and a prospect (Tatar, Jarnrok, Ferraro?) and get Parise now so we have him for this year's playoff run. Moen would be a nice pickup too, but I have no clue what it would take to get him. He would fill out the 4th line nicely though with Abdelkader and Homer. Bert - Dats - Mule Fil - Z - Parise Hudler - Helm - Cleary Moen - Abdelkader - Holmstrom Miller/Emmerton - press box Next year Hudler's spot on the third line would go to someone like Nyquist or Mursak that is WAY cheaper and that we need to find a spot for in the lineup anyways. We also have Eaves coming back from injury that could compete for a spot on the third line too.

Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons

I'd be ok with you moving Hudler to Alcatraz Island if it would free up his cap hit and get his useless little overpaid under-performing ass out of town. Upshall would be a decent pick-up, but I'm not sure how much of an improvement over Eaves/Miller he would be. Does he kill penalties? At least with those other two guys they can play both sides of the puck and they're a known quantity. I would hate to think that Upshall would be on either of our top two lines though. I still would like another proven 30 goal scorer up there... Richards would be awesome... I would hope he takes a discount for guaranteed years and to play with a contender.
