Tomorrow I heard Komisarik will past his prime but if we get him yesterday he may turn out to be pretty good last year. Now that makes as much sense as your post doesn't it?

I like seeing all kinds of possible trades on here and discussing the merits and chances of them happening, but there is nothing here that even comes close to debate-worthy. Let's consider some basics before we post possible trades; 1. Age - no one is going to give us their young, talented stars for our 36-38 year old players. 2. Team expectations - no team in the hunt for the Cup this year and whom is expected to make it deep into the playoffs is going to trade their best Defensman or Forwards for prospects or picks. 3. Draft position - a team that finishes high in the standings will probably pick lower in the draft and vice versa, so a team that finishes low and is in rebuilding mode won't swap first round picks to "improve" their rebuilding efforts. Heck if we're gonna throw all the rules and logic out the window then I want Kenny to make these moves tomorrow! Mowers for Joe Thornton Cleary for Iginla Lebda for Chara Wooley for Phaneuf So let's put some thought into how silly these proposed trades look and try to post ones for discussion that could actually take place in the NHL, rather than just in my dreams.

I'd take Witt, because he would bring an edge to Detroit that Salei won't. My point is that Witt is too high priced for what he would bring. You could spend the league minimum and get the same contributions of toughness, and not much of a different defensive game. Salei might not be the enforcer Witt can be..but he is a MUCH better player. And he's still a pretty tough and gritty player. It's not like he's Dandy or something. I'd have to disagree. I believe Witt is the missing link. Salei isn't soft, but he wouldn't make a huge difference either. Witt is the missing link, huh? So you felt the Wings were primed and in position for the Cup before Fischer went down, then? Because Witt would bring an edge, but he would not make up for Fischer. Besides Witt, Salei, and Mitchell, who else could be available? Keeping in mind we're in the market for a stay at home type D-man who likes to hit and stand up for his teamates. Or at least I think we're in the market for a guy like this anyways.

Wings don't have much team toughness. From what I gather they're constantly out hit. Fischer standing up to Barnaby doesn't impress much. I expect him to do that vs someone like Barnaby. Will he do it vs tougher opponents? Either way it's a waste to have Fischer policing the game for us. I agree with the waste part of your thread, I would absolutely blow a gasket if Fisch broke his hand or something else stupid whilst pummeling a Barnaby type guy. But, is it more of a waste tie up a roster spot with a guy whose only going to get 2-3 minutes of ice time? Bootland, however would be one guy that I would like to give a shot to. IF he can take a semi-regular shift and not be a defensive liability, then maybe he can learn some other skills to make him of value to the team too, besides the knuckle- chucking. I would offer up Chris Neil as a prime example of a guy who saw the writing on the wall, so to speak. I think he knew he had to offer something besides fighting to stick with the Sens, so he becomes a "Holmstrom" type guy on the PP, and he's doin a great job of it too. I'm not all that familiar with Booter to say whether or not there's potential for him to develop like that. There's PK duty too if he can anticipate plays and skate well enough.

I knew you wouldn't be surprised. Hey Bootland can play a fourth line role score some goals, draw some penalties and get his nose dirty. I agree and I'm not advocating we replace him with the players you mentioned, just as a callup when there's injuries ahead of Mowers. At some point though, you got to see what he can do, his contract is up and you need to see if he can hack the NHL.

Why does it not surprise me that this particular player impresses you?, lol, In all honesty though, I would rather have Bootland up here than Mowers. I just cant' see him getting into a ton of games barring an injury. There's no way I would dress him ahead of Cleary/Franzen/Samuelson. His grit would be good IF he was willing to play the body without taking dumb penalties. As far as fighting majors go... I think we're doing ok in the "team toughness" catagory. It was nice to see Fisch take care of business right there, rather than having to wait for a goon to come on the ice later in the game. I am in total agreement with you on the Lebda/Rivers idea though. Lebda has impressed me way more than Rivers so far.

As far as lineups go, how about this for 06-07.... Hudler/Lang/Shanahan Williams/Datsyuk/Grigorenko Filppula/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Maltby/Draper/Franzen Bootland Lidstrom/Fischer Schneider/Kronwall Delmore/Lilja Meech Osgood Howard Hey I like those lines you made up... but could we replace Delmore? Maybe with a guy with a little bit of mean streak in the corners and in front of the net?
