Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons

Well now... this certainly presents an opportunity! So Rafi's $ is 6m, and Hudler's is 2.875$, and we would like to re-sign Lids at 5 or 5.5m$, and the cap is supposed go up at least 1m$ right? That should give us around 9m$ to play with. I would go big and take a run at Richards and Bieksa. Richards at 5m$ for 6 yrs and Bieksa at 3.8m$ for 5 years. Both are under 35 so there's not too much risk with the contracts and I think Bieksa is an upgrade over Rafi anyways. The Kronner/Bieksa pairing would be great as Bieksa could stay back and allow Kronner to rush more as he's our best rushing D'man anyways. Lids/Stuart and then Ericsson/? (Wisnewski would be nice!). Oh, and just trade(give away) Hudler for a pick... and I don't care which round it's in. He's as useless as **** on a bull.

    2nd line center trade *idea*

The Sens are a mess, they need to dump the old guys, get younger and start over. We need a second line center that can play both ways and score too. Alfie is a Swede, obviously, and would fit in here like a fat kid on an ice cream island. He's signed for a VERY reasonable 4.875m until 2012/2013 so basically we get him for 2 1/2 years, or 3 years of playoffs. Alfie is 38 and is in the twilight of his career but he's still a very determined, effective two-way player. I would love to see him with Franzen and Cleary or Bertuzzi, Flip takes over the 3rd line center spot (which he's more suited to anyway) and Helm anchors the 4th line. I doubt Modano returns, and if he does, great, then he plays on the third line with Flip and Cleary and Abby goes down to the fourth and takes Miller's spot. If we do it late enough in the season we can swap Kindl and Hudler's salary (2.875+.88) for Alfie's and it's almost a wash. We still have Janik and Smith if we need to call up another body on the blue line. The trade: To Ottawa - Hudler, Kindl, Mursak and our 1st round pick this year. To Detroit - Alfredsson and Ottawa's 2nd round pick this year. Some trades start out as an idea, then as a rumor, then as a proposal. I'm hoping this starts the process and we see another classy, skilled Swede finish his career here with a couple Cups. Z-Dats-Homer Franzen-Alfie-Bertuzzi Cleary-Filppula-Abdelkader Eaves-Helm-Miller/Draper Lids-Stuart Rafi-Ericcson Kronwal-Salei Janik C'mon Kenny, make it happen! Would you do it?
  3. At least the Sharks' goaltending situation looks shaky... I'd rather play a good team with a crappy goalie (s) than a mediocre defensive team with a goalie that's standing on his head, stealing games and stopping 50 shots per game. I think the Wings can outplay the Sharks and now we just need Jimmy to outplay whoever they're going with in net.

Wings Getting No Help This Playoffs!

I dunno, the Sharks had a better season and are the better team on paper but our record against Nashville was horrible this year and they have the better goalie for sure. Sometimes defense-first, grinding, hot-goalie teams give us A LOT of trouble... does the name "Kiprusoff" ring any bells?

Wings Getting No Help This Playoffs!

Who do we cheer for? I'd like to see the Canucks lose... but I just can't bring myself to pull for "20 cent" and the rest of the s***hawks... Overtime coming up!

Wings Getting No Help This Playoffs!

It's only 1-0 Canucks in the third right now... if the s***hawks win then there's the upset and the Sharks get the Hawks and the Wings get Nashville. Given the way we played against Nashville and the fact that Pecker Rimmer has been better than Luongo so far these playoffs I'm not sure which match up favours the Wings.
  7. After watching most of the regular season games this year I would go with: Flip - Dats - Homer Mule - Hank - Bert Huds - Helm - Cleary Eaves - Abdelkader - Draper/Miller Any way you can find to get more ice time for Helm is a good thing. He was probably our second best forward last series, second only to Dats. The Mule/Hank/Bert line dominated for a good chunk of the season and Bert and Mule have great chemistry as Bert seems to find him in good scoring positions alot. While I think Miller brings more offense to the line-up, you can't discount Drapes and all that experience and face off skill. Cleary had a good game 4 but he was pretty much invisible for the first 3 and I honestly thought he was injured the way he was getting knocked around and seemed to spend more time on his ass than on his skates so if he struggles you drop him down to the 4th line and give Eaves or Miller a shot on the third line to contribute a goal or two. Last year in the playoffs Cleary was amazing but I'm really worried he's hurt and just wants to try to play through it, which might do more harm than good to both him and the team as the playoffs move on. Here's hoping the extended time off rested/healed him and he's back to the being the Cleary of last year's playoffs.

WCQF Game 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Coyotes 3

Yup, that might have been one of the best games I've seen Flip play ever. It's a little frustrating to see too cause if he played (and shot the puck) like that in the regular season he could easily be a 30 goal/70 point guy.

WCQF Game 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Coyotes 3

The Wings swept the Jets out of Winnipeg and into the desert (I was at the last Jets game). Now the Wings have swept the Coyotes out of the desert and back into the freezer, aka - Winterpeg! I'll be at the first Jets home game next year for sure and it would only be fitting if it could be against the Wings.

WCQF Game 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Coyotes 3

Helm has been just amazing, second only to Dats so far this series. On an unrelated note; has anyone seen Dan Cleary? He's been missing for a while now and even though I don't expect him to score every game, the stats had him at 1 hit in 3 games... this is not the Dan Cleary we've seen in the playoffs before. Is he injured? Asleep? WTF?

    Ericsson vs Ott

Props to Big E, he answered the bell and gave Ott a few good ones. Maybe he'll become a little more physical as he gets older and become Fischer 2.0

Just tuned in, and man, are Kindl and Salei stinking the joint up. I've counted 4 Kindl turnovers since the 3rd started.

    Jiri Hudler Watch Thread

He did look better last game and Helm's hustle rubs off on him I think so maybe keep the two of them together for a few games. Helm was amazing last game, he could really break out if he could work on his shot strength and location. His speed and hustle get him loads of chances it's just his finish that needs work. If Hudler could get a couple tap-ins maybe that would pick up his overall game. Here's hoping it's tonight against Chicago!

    Darren Pang's freudian slip

Sad yes, but given the history of inequality concerning human rights all over our planet it's not surprising. I'm thankful everyday that I live in a country that never condoned or allowed slavery, and I'm glad that the USA is doing everything it can to make up for mistakes of the past. That being said, I'm sure Panger didn't mean to imply anything with his slip up, and I don't think anything will come of this, he may be annoying at times but I doubt he's racist given that he's good buddies with Stevie Y, and The Captain would never be friends with anyone who was like that I'm sure.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

I do not feel sorry for them whatsoever. Suffer, suffer, suffer and then suffer through some more losing seasons leafblowers. It's karma, pure and simple, they are ALWAYS overhyped, shoved down our throats here in Canada, and have made the most horrific hockey decisions in the NHL. They've made their bed of s***, now they can lie in it and enjoy the smell.

Babs says Miller and Eaves will both play

The "return" isn't really the "who" we get in exchange for Piddler, but rather the CAP SPACE! We'll free up close to 3mil plus a roster space that we can use to sign a 5-6mil/yr guy at or before the trade deadline. How good would a 30 goal scorer who brings some nastiness look on the third line with Cleary and Modano for the playoffs? Hudler's cap space and roster spot could make that happen. I could care less if we get a pop tart and glass of milk for the little traitor... he can run back to the KHL with his tail between his legs and play over there which is where he went last year anyways. It's addition by subtraction in this case and I WANT a big time scorer on the third line to help balance out the top three lines come playoff time.

FSD + adding HD chanels to more carriers

Does anyone know if there's a way to get this channel in Canada? We have Bell ExpressVu and Shaw as satellite providers but this channel isn't available on them that I know of... it's very frustrating as we're almost forced to buy Center Ice (very pricey) just to watch Wings games!!

Campbell calls (likely Savard) "Fake Artist" in email

I'm watching the Blues/Dives game on Versus (TSN is broadcasting it in Canada) and I'm watching Kypreos, Engblom and some other dick talk about the games on tonight during the intermission and the Avery sucker/not sucker punch against Schmeeeeed the other night but I'm disgusted that they're choosing to ignore the biggest story in hockey so far this year and haven't brought up Corupt Campbell and his emails once. I'm wondering if the knee-breakers at the NHL have put the gag order on Versus? One thing for sure, they won't be able to gag CBC; I bet HNIC has the story front and center this Saturday night. I checked the NHL website and surprise surprise! Not one mention of the story anywhere on their site... sweep it under the rug boys, spin it and downplay it, don't ever admit a problem in Bettmanland. At least The Hockey News has a story on it. I'm wondering how long it will take for someone to launch a lawsuit against Corupt Campbell and sue his ass for collusion or organized crime (fixing/influencing NHL games via his position and/or decisions) and forces Bettman to pay their team back for lost revenue... Mike Illitch... are you LISTENING???
