Torres and Hudler please. Raffi Torres at 2.5/yr for 2 yrs would be nice. Torres and Hudler would really improve the 2nd and third lines and both would come at under 3mil/yr for the next two years. Dumping J-Softy and Berslowzi along with Lids taking a pay cut (3.5-4mil/yr for 2yrs would be great) would get them both on board no problem. Meech can go elsewhere, Kindl comes up, Eaves is re-signed, Homer is re-signed, Miller is let go, Abdelkader is brought up, Lilja is re-signed for around the same money for 2yrs. These changes along with a "healthy" year from our top guys and a better year out of Filppula would go a long ways toward staying at the top of the conference rather than battling it out at the bottom. Homer-Dats-Franzen Hudler-Z-Cleary Torres-Filppula-Helm Eaves-Draper-Abdelkader Lids-Rafi Stewie-Kronner Lilja-Lebda/Kindl Ericsson

3/15 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Flames 1

Bert looks really s-l-o-w tonight, maybe cause the pace is fast, maybe cause he IS really slow, or maybe he had some bad kung pow noodles before the game, I dunno... but he's almost a liability out there. Unless he has great playoff he's definitely be on my "give up" list along with J-softy/willy to make room for Torres next year.

3/13 GDT: Sabres 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Anyone know of a good quality stream for tonight's game? Thanx!

    Jiri Hudler

I think it would work, I haven't run the numbers but dropping Miller, Maltby, Williams, and May while Lids taking a 3.5mil pay cut would probably be enough to afford Torres for 2.whatever along with Hudler and 2mil plus change salary. Abdelkader and Eaves will come cheap and Helm shouldn't be asking for too much of a raise this time around as he's an RFA. I can't see Bert getting much more than the 1.5 we gave him this year, especially if we were to offer him the security of a two year deal at that price too. I doubt Homer asks for a raise and may even take a slight 250K pay cut to stay on too.

    Jiri Hudler

Hello Torres, Hudler, and Abdelkader. Bye-bye Miller, Williams, and Maltby. Re-sign Bert at 1.5, Lids at 3.5, and then there's room for Torres at 2.25 and Hudler too. Maybe Lids will pull an Yzerman and play the last couple years at 1mil and "take one for the team" lol. Seriously though, I'd love to see Torres with Z and Cleary. Fil, Huds and Bert would be a nice third line. Helm, Draper, Abdelkader would be the fourth.

NHL GM's upset at Phaneuf trade

It may have been more of where Sutter wanted Phaneuf to end up. I doubt he wants to face Phaneuf anytime soon in a playoff matchup so a deal to any Western conference team wouldn't be considered. Sutter may have wanted to bury Phaneuf, to deal him to the worst possible place, so he may not have traded him as much as "banished" him to the pit of despair known as Toronto who might make the playoffs in about 10 years, and might have a legit shot at a cup in 2085. Sutter was rumoured to have engaged in a shouting match with Phaneuf shortly before said banishing, and we all know Phaneuf's reputation for being the biggest dick in the league - yes, even more so than Pronger as even Phaneuf's own teammates don't seem to like him all that well. So Sutter says... "Dion, you can take your sloppy seconds and f*** right off to the worst possible place I could send you - you're now a Maple Laugh! hahahahahaha"

Ovi to pass the great one?

this is so true... ever watched highlights from the 80's? The goalies were horrible! They didn't butterfly much, were way smaller, had way smaller equipment and I think even I could have scored the odd goal against them lol.

2/6 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Kings 4

Hank has 7 shots on goal... no else for the Wings has more than 1. This is the problem with our season, one guy working hard, everyone else watching him work hard.

    Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey

2002? Red Wings? Hull, Robitaille, Hasek? Ringing ANY bells yet??? lol

    Lilja Potentially Close to Returning?

Lils, then Kronner and Williams, and then Mule at the end of Feb. would sure help us lock up that 4th spot in the Conference and get home ice for the first round, then knock off the Hacks, er, Hawks in the third round!! That would be a great way to end Hossa's season haha! Edit: I forgot poor Homer! We need him back too lol.

    Carcillo beats up Gaborik tonight

Props to Carcillo, he stopped throwing as soon as Gabby hit the ice, he could have really tuned him up, instead he actually held Gabby up as he fell so he wouldn't hit the ice hard and stopped throwing punches when Gabby couldn't defend himself. I don't give a s*** who the player is or how much of a pretty-boy-goal-scoring-dangling-pansy he is, if he drops the gloves on me, I'm throwing punches right back just like Carcillo did. Good for Gabby for making the effort though, the only way to get better at defending himself is a little practice and some experience.

What would you give up for Kovalchuk

I don't even know who "kinkl" is. lol

    Mathieu Schneider on waivers

Absolutely. It comes down to this; who would you rather have running the 2nd pp unit for the Wings? Meech/Lebda, or Schneider? No brainer - bring back the Schneids!! Even when Kronner/Ericsson (Lilja?) come back, I would still rather have Schneids as the 7th D-man than any of Meech/Lebda/Janik. If Schneids doesn't pan out then just send him down and his cap hit doesn't count against us so really it's a win-win situation with nothing to lose by taking a chance on him. Kenny... you know what to do.

Did You Guys Know Kirk Maltby Was a 50-Goal Scorer In Juniors?

... and 1 Jimmy Mann lol I was a 50 goal scorer in gym class floor hockey... which is just about as relevant.

Axelsson goes rogue - heading to Sweden

Or maybe he misses his mommy, his teddy bear and his rubber ducky. Give me a F'ing break! He's not a 12 yr old at summer camp, he has a chance to make millions if he perseveres and shows a little backbone and determination. If he's that much of a ***** that he has to run home to mamma when he faces a little adversity then he can join Ryno in the soup kitchen line. I sure wouldn't make excuses for him though - suck it up buttercup, life is hard, wear a helmet.

Thank you! Those of us without access to Sat. TV or NHL Center Ice really appreciate it.

    50 in 50

Very funny. At the end of each game Crosby's teammates take him down to his own end and introduce him to his goalie.

    Leafs

Next to watching the Red Wings win; I love to watch Toronto lose. The most arrogant, conceited, selfish franchise in the World is winless in 7 games and the excuses are already mounting. Yet we in Canada are still FORCED to watch these hacks every fricken Saturday night, regardless of how bad they suck. CBC get your HEAD out of your ASS and start to cover a competitive credible franchise! There is hockey outside of Toronto on Saturday nights, yet somehow the Leafs always manage to be the first game on HNIC, all subsidized by my tax dollars. It's now official, as long as this continues, the Leafs Stanley Cup drought will be knows as the HNIC Curse.
  19. daniel1

    Leafs

You are quite right; CBC is better than nothing, I just wish it was more representative of ALL of Canada.

You raise some interesting points however you are premising your arguments on some rather dubious and innacurate logic: not everyone in Canada has access to the internet, and very few northern towns in the prairies (where your bread, beer and basic food products come from) or Rockies (large rocks in BC, you can look them up) have access to high speed internet. Again, it's not unexpected to see that Ontario residents are out of touch with the reality of conditions across the rest of Canada. Although CBC may be based out of Toronto, it is Canadian tax dollars from every person in every province that enables CBC to operate; their ratings are so low compared to any other USA network that they would have been gone out of business had they not been propped up by the CRTC and OUR tax dollars for years. As such, CBC should not put the needs of one "region" ahead of another, it should be EQUAL coverage of all NHL teams in Canada. The ratings don't really have any bearing on CBC's profits, they are a publicly funded company, funded through taxes. They are not subject to fair market competition or capitalist principals in the same fashion as television stations in the USA or other parts of the world are. The CBC could ostensibly have a 0% ratings share and it would not affect their bottom line as every cable, satellite and free-air television service provider that the CRTC allows to operate in Canada is FORCED to carry CBC in it's basic package, regardless of ratings, programming or customer preference - Canadians are not allowed to "opt out" of CBC when choosing programming or channel packages regardless of their provider (Bell, Shaw, etc). There may be "plenty of internet" to go around if you live in Ontario, but once again, not every Canadian lives in Ontario or enjoys the same level of infrastructure and convenience that big-city dwellers do.

Bulls***. Absolute Bulls***. I've lived in BC, AB, SK and MB... gone to school in NB and worked in NS... and in every bar, every college pub, and every jobsite I've ever been in, there were fans from almost every team in the NHL and we always disagreed on which team was better. About the only thing we ever AGREED on was that we all hated the Leafs! It's a giant national joke that everybody in Ontario (where might you be from?) believes that the Leafs have all these mythical elvish fans across Canada that secretly worship the Leafs... it's absolute bulls***. You think there's a lot of Leaf fans in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Halifax or Winnipeg? Watch the next Calgary/Leafs game at the Saddledome... you can count the number of Leaf jerseys there on one hand. I've been to western Canada NHL and CFL games and the most popular crowd chant is "Leafs Suck", that's when they're not even playing in that game, and even at CFL football games. Your post completey epitomizes the very ignorance and delusional misconceptions which ignites and fuels the "Leafs Suck" attitude across Canada, which in case you've forgotten, does indeed extend East and West of the Ontario borders.

    Leafs

The problem is where Leaf media and Leaf fans believe "Leaf nation" to be: the rest of Canada outside of Toronto is NOT Leaf nation, 90% of Canadians outside of the greater Toronto area can't stand the Leafs and enjoy seeing them lose as much as I do, yet they are broadcast nationwide. If CBC wants to go to regional programming that would be great. Do you really think Calgary or Ottawa fans want to see the Leafs every week? Get a clue... Imagine this: all of Detroit is subjected to watching the Hawks on FOX Detroit every Saturday; Mickey and Ken are FORCED to cover the Hawks even though the Wings are playing at the same time, and you live in Detroit, not Chicago, yet Fox Detroit has decided that Detroit is now "Hawk nation" and you can't watch your local team because they like the Hawks more. Now imagine that your tax dollars go to paying for Fox Detroit, and without your tax dollars they would have gone under years ago. So you're paying for Fox Detroit, but they won't let you watch your local team, instead they show the Hawks games even though the Wings have a much better team and everybody in Detroit wants to watch them... now maybe you understand?

Are you retarded? Or just dense? This has nothing to do with Center Ice. If you're a Leafs fan and I've offended you then you have my sincere apologies and are free to start your own topic. If you don't want to contribute anything to the discussion here other than offering me shopping tips than there's no need for you to post in this thread.

    Leafs

Thanx for the advice, obviously you are uneducated as to how the CBC operates. If you live in the US, your tax dollars do not go towards supporting one supposedly "national" television station that is suppossed to unbiased politically and geographically due to the support they receive from ALL Canadians from coast to coast. We have 6 NHL teams in Canada; all six should receive the same amount of air time, yet that's definitely not the case. Toronto is on HNIC every Saturday night, while the other 5 teams are shown on a rotating basis. What makes Toronto think that they deserve coverage EVERY Saturday night, yet fans in Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver are supposed to pay extra for Center Ice when we ALREADY pay for HNIC through our tax dollars? This isn't fair, yet it's indicative of the attitude Toronto media and their fans have towards the rest of Canada; they feel they should get first priority, which is bulls***.

    Leafs

If it were any other team I would tend to agree with you, but what's really sad is having to watch Leafs coverage that is crammed down your throat by the Ontario-centric "national" media here in Canada. There are 5 OTHER Canadian teams, yet the Leafs seem to get about 80% of the air time here in Canada.
