Something you would love to see...

I want to see Yzerman lead the Red Wings past the Edmonton Oilers en route to a 4th and final Stanley Cup for the Captain in 2006.

Black eye for the NHL argument

What about baseball? Baseball is our "national pasttime," afterall. In response to Legionnaire, I agree that NASCAR is becoming bigger because there is more of a demand for tickets to events since they only race once a week. Same with the NFL. They played once a week. Every baseball team plays 162 games during 6 months. Many of these games happen during the day during the week (Chicago Cubs), and they still sell them out. People will do anything to get out of work and go to a Cubs game. Another argument in support of baseball is the amount of teams. In professional baseball, there are four tiers. These tiers are known as Class A, Class AA, Class AAA, and the Major Leagues. Each Major League team has 3 minor league teams in its "farm system" in order to develop and rehabilitate players, as well as coaches. These minor league teams may not be household names throughout the country, but many enjoy much success. As a Sport Enterprise major, I know that, in general, minor league sports are simply for the love of the game. Many teams won't make a profit, but they owners don't care much because they simply love the game. This being said, many minor league teams still enjoy a lot of fan appreciation and support. There is an Independent Minor League Baseball Club about 20 minutes away from my home. They're level of play is the equivalent to Class AA. I get to 3 or 4 of their games every year, and just about every one of them is a sell out. Despite being just 30 minutes from the Chicago Cubs and about 1 hour from the White Sox, people still go to see lower quality baseball. Why? Because they love the game. In conclusion, I have to argue that baseball is bigger and better than the NFL in the United States.

Top Ten hockey players since 1980

This thread is about top ten hockey players since 1980, which, by the definition of the word since, means any player that has played in the league during or after that time period; so Crosby is still eligible. With that being said, I have rethought my stance on that since my earlier posting. Hull would probably have to be in consideration.

Top Ten hockey players since 1980

I'd have to say Gretzky, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Modano, Sakic, Roy (or Brodeur), Messier, Shannahan, Thorton, Crosby. Those are in no particular order, but I do know that the 10th best hockey player since 1980 is... The fans. That's right. We are the 10th best hockey player since 1980. Without us, there would be no game. Although hockey fans may be far and few between now, those that remain after the lockout are the true, diehard, passionate fans that simply love the sport.

Either one, we need him. We're having trouble in Western Canada.

    Peter Karmanos

I am sure he will field hockey related questions. I am not sure, however, that it would be appropriate to question his relationship with Mr. I.

Stars president 'sick' of Predators' overall attitude

On Around the Horn (ESPN), Tim Cowlishaw (sp?) just said that it was "a bad move" by the Predators to not even mention Modano's achievement. He said "in order for the NHL to promote the event, and just out of respect" it should have been announced at the arena. Also, the Stanley Cup is on PTI right now. This is twice in one day that hockey has been mentioned on ESPN shows!!

What city deserves an NHL team

I like the idea of Maine. U of Maine has a strong hockey program and has very good attendance every season. Milwaukee, unfortunately, is too close to Chicago. They won't put a team in Milwaukee simply because there wouldn't be enough support, and if anyone is going to care about hockey, they'd drive the 1 hour trip to see the Blackhawks.

I love how you linked to the urban dictionary instead of a real one. I had never heard of the urban dictionary before.

Trade lights fire under Calder -- and Lang

Good article. Even from not watching the games, but seeing the points, I knew that Calder and Lang had started working really well together.

I prefer Hungry Howie's pizza over Little Ceasars, but the Crazy Bread rules all. I haven't had Hungry Howie's in about 6 years.

3/20 GDT: Red Wings @ Flames

Just win, that's all. For those that may be wondering (Hockeycrazy3033): I will not be watching this game, so you guys can expect the Red Wings to look better than they did on Saturday night.

I realized this post was wrong after selecting "Add Reply" but before the page loaded. I tried to stop it in an attempt to save my dignity but failed miserably. Please forgive me. Also...apparently I suddenly lack the ability to edit my own posts? Kinda weird.

    Ticked off

Exactly. Sure, Gretzky owns all the records and glory, but if I'm correct, he never had the 'C' sewn on his sweater. Furthermore, Yzerman won the Lester Patrick Trophy for overall contribution to hockey in the United States. That award is not on Gretzky's resume.
