awesome effort. great pks, great 5-5 play, and most importantly, goal-tending! get used to the bench oz.
-
what a s***ty game. what are we going to do for goal in the future. howard obviously isn't it!
-
wow. awesome game. love the effort. these really have no desire to catch the sharks. pathetic ******* effort. and jimmy howard is slow as s***!

great game! i love beating the ducks! conks was stellar except for the mishandle in front of the open net. the best news, datsyuk is tied with cindy for 3rd in points. i was hoping for an empty netter or something for dats so that he could blow by sid the queen, but technically he is ahead cuz he has more goals.

osgood was fantastic last year, no doubt about it. he was second in line for the con smythe in my opinion. he hasn't had a bad season this year, he's had a brutal season. he's been the worst detroit goaltender in over a decade. -

i agree, the problem is that we haven't seen anything close to a confident, on-top-of-his-game osgood this year, and we're 56 games in. osgood needs to get his head back in the game somehow, clearly it's not something he's going to play through. i think he needs to sit for a couple of breaks, get some air, and come back focused. -

so your point is that conklin has let in fewer goals, has a better save percentage, and has won more over the last six games? -

it's pretty sad that a detroit goalie let in 3 goals and it actually lowered his goals against average. i think it's important to get ozzy on track, his experience could be crucial in the playoffs, but how do you get him on track. clearly he can't play through it. he's been one of the worst goalies in the league all year long. i think babs needs to sit oz for a stretch. let him get his mind back in the game, it's clear he has no confidence. he's got angles wrong, he's coming out to far to challenge, or staying in too deep and not challenging, his puck movement is off and he just looks constatnly shakey. sit him babcock! -

detroit didn't look great tonight, but they still had more chances than columbus and 9 more shots. i don't think anybody is worshiping mason, but he played well, better than our #30, and that was the difference. if the wings had legs and were on their game tonight, osgood's typical mediocrity (this year) probably wouldn't have mattered, the wings would have just scored more goals than ozzy let in. as it was they needed his help tonight, and he didn't cut it. -

marginal defense and marginal goal-tending against good-goal tending. that was tonight's story. -

i think it's the other way around. without mason, the wings win this thing 5-3 (5-2 with conklin in net ) one thing is for sure, osgood isn't giving us a chance to win this year. he wasn't terrible tonight, and the defense wasn't great, but osgood was out-dueled by mason. another sub 90 % night for osgood, big surprise. he isn't making the big stops. if the wings score a lot of goals, ozzy can win, but if the wings are under 3 or 4 goals, chances are, ozzy's gonna let in more. i don't know why conklin isn't our clear starter at this point. -
it was cool seeing trevor thompson take on filppula yesterday in a game of keep away. he was able to keep up with flip for the most part. flip is a very good puck handler, too. when trevor played keep away with datsyuk, he barely touched the puck and never got control. datsyuk just spun him like a top. it was hard to put that in context because i didn't know how well trevor could handle himself. watching him keep pace with val really puts his beat down from dats in a new light. datsyuk is a wizard.
-
don't look now, but datsyuk is five points away from being a career point per game player. if he simply scores five more points than games played the rest of the season (something he's on pace to do), he'll join that heralded club.

ah, posterior posterity.

i'd say the team play is worse than two years ago. infact, it's the worst it's been in a long time. i can't remember the last time i saw a wings team with defense and pk this poor.

nadal's had fed's number for years. he's 13-6 against federer. it's evident federer is scared to death of nadal, and now that nadal's beaten fed on hard courts, grass, and clay consecutively in slam finals, i honestly can't see federer beating nadal in a slam again. he's much too scared of rafa. he crumbled imo. the fifth was brutal. fed served near 50% for that match, terrible by his standards, and had a propensity to double fault on important points. he really can't seem to handle the pressure against nadal. it's sad, really, in order for federer to tie sampras, nadal is going to have to lose in an earlier round.
-
i second that. maybe only tiger woods compares. nadal is in a league of his own when it comes to focus and resilience. federer basically crumbled against nadal's iron will.
-
RAFA!!! as much as i wanted federer to win, nadal far and away deserved this one. he is clearly the best tennis player in the world. what an effort. fed completely mailed it in in the fifth. i think federer trying to stake a claim to greatest of all time takes a huge hit tonight. he had every advantage and completely mailed it in. that's not the sign of a champion. it's becoming more and more clear that his talent and skill level haven't faded, it's the mere fact that he's going up against people that believe they can beat him. when the player across the net is confident, federer chokes. nadal was incredible. absolutely amazing. he has an iron will like i've never seen in an athlete. maybe tiger woods compares, but that's about it. he never gives up, no matter what. what a competitor!!

that's the story of the year, isn't it? we've fast become a one period (sometimes two period) team. often it's a half a period or ten minute team. i can count the games this season on one hand were the wings have skated a full 60 minutes.
