i think the chances of hossa staying are pretty slim. i'll be sad to see him go, i'm sure, but you can't blame the guy. it's a miracle he's here for this year. hopefully the organization and the history here combined with an insanely talented team will make a lasting impression on him. the wings are clearly one of the best organizations to play for in nearly every regard. but his pay pay-cut would be so hefty that i doubt the joy of being a wing will make up for it. let's just hope the cap goes waaaay up.

no way in hell zetterberg or hossa sign for 4 mil a year, let alone both of them. our only hope is that the cap goes up significantly this year.

federer dispatches djokovic in a pretty uneventful semi. i have to admit, i thought novak would roll over rog. but fed looked almost like the rog of ole and djoker almost looked disinterested. definitely not novak's best on display today but it was great to see federer defeat one of his demons. i'm really hoping he can carry this momentum into the final and get back on track to securing g.o.a.t. status. it's nice to see glimpses of his old form surfacing. meanwhile murray's up two sets to nil but down a break in the third. if he makes the final he's definitely a threat. this guy is quickly becoming one of the elite. i'm not counting nadal out yet, however, and i'm hoping for the wimby rematch.

i think it's more likely homer will wing the top pp line because of his net-front presence. *with our talent we can really give our top two lines pretty equal pp time. opposing pk's are going to have a hell of a time dealing with our top two lines one after another.

predictions? i'm going with djoker. if he can get palying well early i say he takes it. nadal has a fair chance. he often starts tournaments slowly, so he quasi-struggle the first round is no reason for concern. federer, i think, is the longest shot of the big three, but it's almost certain to go to one of the big three.

federer dropped in straight sets today by james blake. blake had lost all of their previous eight encounters, winning only one set in those matches. wow. is this guy done for? before this year i thought the question was would he break the slams record in this season or next season. now i wonder if he can even match the slams record at all. it's to the point where you expect him to lose.

well, federer bows out early again. this time in cincinnati. he is quickly becoming a choke artist. how the mighty fall. i really can't see him standing much of a chance in bejing or the us open. nadal is primed for number one.

what the hell happened to this guy? it's almost a foregone conclusion at this point that nadal will take over number one by the end of the year.

so what are people's thoughts on nadal? 5 slams at the age of 22!?!?! give me break! this guy is unreal. he's got such amazing mental fortitude and i don't know if i've ever seen a tougher competitor on the tennis court. right now he's got a better chance than fed at the grand slam in my opinion (fed's only chance is if nadal gets injured in the french), not to mention he is four slams further in the slam race than fed was at his age. noting his improvement on hard courts (semis in aussie), he continues to amaze. realistically he had the opportunity to drop federer in three sets in wimby and definitely should have had him in four! i'm truly impressed. if nadal can continue to raise his game, and we have no reason to assume he won't, i think he'll have a very good shot at the career grand slam and possibly a genuine-in-season grand slam. is it too soon to be talking about him chasing down sampras? he's just entered his prime and already has five slams to his name. obviously his style of play won't lend itself to anything approaching longevity in this sport, and personally, i think, ultimately he'll fall short of sampras for that reason alone. but i think the next four years nadal can really dominate. maybe not as absolutely as federer had but he doesn't need to because he'll have a four slam head start while entering his prime. on top of it all he is humble and gracious off the court. he's a true champion and even though i'm a huge federer fan, i'll be happy to see nadal take over the number one this year, he definitely deserves it and it will be in good hands. it's an exciting time for tennis!

i'd say with the rain delays and the relative significance to both concerned and fed coming back two sets down to win two sets in tiebreakers while facing two or three match points to force the fifth, this was the best match i've ever seen bar none.

well, fed must be completely demoralized now. it's going to be very interesting seeing how he responds to losing the wimby crown. i think it's now clear we've seen a changing of the guard.

datsyuk also lead all our forwards in blocked shots and hits this year, correct? or am i confusing the regular season with the playoffs? if he did, leading our forwards in hits and blocked shots while leading the league in +/- and takeaways and playing against the other team's top forwards night in night out. the guy is deserving, no doubt. how awesome is it that our shutdown line is our top scoring line? how many teams can say that??
