    Wings sign Todd Bertuzzi

bert for 1.5 is a good deal. a hell of a lot better than jason williams at 1.5. bert brings grit, size, and scoring touch. we need it all. i'd love to see bert regain some of his old form, not likely, but if he does this will be one hell of a signing.

he's also like a foot taller and hundred pounds heavier (though hudler's head is probably bigger)! that sounds good to me.

    Holmstrom

unfortunately, if homer can't play on the first line, then he might as well be off the team. he can't contribute on any other line. he doesn't have speed, physicality or defensive ability to make him effective on the lower lines. and if he's not on a scoring line with the super talents of z and d, then he's ineffective. homer is probably the player i'm most worried about. his role on this team is very specific, and if he's not as effective in that role as he was when younger, there isn't much else for him to do. if relegated to the fourth line he'd be a detriment and would hinder our ability to roll four lines. hopefully he's gotten his form back this summer, but i'm not too optimistic. he takes a hell of a beating every night, and it was bound to catch up with him sooner or later.

as much a part of this team that malts, draper, and holmstrom have been, i wouldn't mind seeing all of them go. other than draper's faceoffs, they offer nothing to this team that it doesn't already have. especially if homer's playoffs are any indication of a falloff in production. let's face it, if homer can't deflect pucks in front of the net anymore (his only ******* job) he is worse than useless, he's a detriment. that said, i'd bet the farm that none of them are going anywhere.

well, unfortunately, cheap shots can result in career ending injuries. moore threw his fair share of cheap shots. it's not inconceivable that one of them could have resulted in a career ending injury. bertuzzi didn't intend to hurt moore like he did. you said it yourself, cheap shots happen in hockey.

    Loyalty: A Double Edged Sword

loyalty is what makes this organization so great on and off the ice. it's unique. guys aren't always going to buy into the system, though. hudler leaving is understandable because he's a top six talent relegated to the third and fourth lines. babcock has no faith in him unless it's the shootout, i wouldn't want to be playing in that situation, either. hossa, i think everybody had to have expected him leaving somewhere in the back of their minds. we just never had the cap space to make it work. if holland hadn't signed franzen and had known that hudler was leaving, he could have worked something out, i'm sure, but i'd rather have franzen. who cares about sammy, conklin, or kopecky?

i can see that you're trying not to be combative and are discussing this civilly, so i'll do the same. i may have misinterpreted your intent in previous posts, for that i apologize. however, i never mentioned healthcare or car insurance and said they weren't concerns of mine. i was only discussing foreigners speaking english. on that point we have different opinions. like i said, i feel that over time it equalizes anyhow. 2nd generation citizens almost always speak english. and i don't have any data to back me up, but i'd be willing to bet it's not all that different than it's ever been. people coming to this country, especially those fleeing political/religious/social persecution, may not know the language. many of them arrive in circumstances (i.e. living in communities comprised of people speaking their native tongues) where english isn't necessary. when english is necessary, they usually have people they can go to for help. if english isn't necessary, and they have more pressing concerns, learning english isn't going to be a priority. i'd bet, throughout history, 1st generation americans were much the same as they are today (many speaking little to no english). in fact, i wouldn't be surprised if it was more so in some cases as nationalism was often more prevalent in the past that it is today. as we've become globalized, also, much of the world already speaks english well, or has at least a grasp of it. anyway, at this point i'm rambling. we have different opinions and they aren't likely to change.

when i lived in chicago, i worked in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country (devon street, if you've heard of it). i worked with plenty of people who spoke english very poorly and understandably gathered with others speaking a language with which they were more comfortable. i looked at it as a wonderful opportunity to learn about cultures i wasn't familiar with. it can be exciting to take advantage of situations where you can learn first hand about other cultures. i guess it's all in how you look at it.

that wasn't the post of yours i quoted, so your defense of that post makes little sense. not that i'd expect otherwise. why do you care if others speak spanish? there are english speaking americans populating the whole world who don't bother to learn the languages of their new residences. what do you care? the united states is a country composed of every people/culture the world has to offer. it is something that makes this country special. it is something that makes this country unique. there are many pockets in this country where foreigners congregate together into their own little communities. this makes speaking english unnecessary. does this affect you? are you sincerely pissed off because a lot of people in chicago's china town only speak mandarin? that said, it is typically only the first generation immigrants/ illegal immigrants speaking only their native tongues. second generation citizens almost always learn english along with the language their parents speak. this is because it's very difficult to learn a language as an adult. especially when there are more pressing concerns (e.g. making sure your kids don't starve/have a place to sleep). i'm sure you have an american flag flying high in your backyard and consider yourself a patriot, but you fail to realize that this melding of cultures is one of the things about this country that is great. btw, if you really like english so much, you might want to book passage to the u.k., because spanish will be more prevalently spoken here within 20 years. then people are going to look at you and say, "why the hell doesn't that joker speak spanish! get the hell out of our country!" * i had a great great german grandmother who came over to this country and only spoke german for the rest of her life. it wouldn't surprise me if some of your german ancestors did likewise. such instances throughout this country's history aren't as uncommon as you seem to think. without my great great german grandmother, and your german ancestors, you and i wouldn't be here.

i'd be willing to bet your ancestors were as well. that is, unless you're native american. p.s. the guy in your avatar, whom you also pay tribute to with your member name, is also an immigrant.

you said it buddy. maybe it should be, "write english or get the f*** out of our country!" you're hilarious. the funniest thing is that there are many immigrants that know the language much better than you have demonstrated. ironic, eh? this country is and always has been made up of immigrants. get your head out of your ass.

Congrats, Pittsburgh... hope next time you have to earn it!

there were missed calls and bulls*** calls both ways. we had more pp's throughout the series than the pens, we just didn't do anything with them. we had plenty of pp time tonight to get a goal, but we didn't get it done. other than the anomaly that was game five, the wings had 1 ******* power play goal in six games. not too many teams are going to win a series with stats like that. the penguins got it done. they deserved to win. it's the ******* stanley cup. it's an 82 game grind and then four grueling rounds of balls-to-the-wall playoff hockey. the penguins got through it all and trumped the reigning champs in the last game of the season. they deserve it. i'm no fan of pitsburg, but they were the better team this series. they got the job done. they are the rightful champs. end of story.

Crosby didn't shake our players hands?

no problem, i misunderstood. i can't exactly claim to be thinking clearly right not! lol it was a long season, i'm exhausted. i can't imagine how the players must be feeling...

Crosby didn't shake our players hands?

i didn't bash once while the game was on, i didn't even post. infact, on the whole tonight i've done much more praising than bashing. i called out sid, that's an opinion. i may be off on his character, but i don't like him. but in posts in several threads i gave the pens their due credit. they were the better team and deserved to win, no doubt. i paid respect to the wings for having the second best season in the nhl this year. it's an accomplishment. i called out homer and hossa. they didn't do enough to put us over the top. that's it. it's a pretty level-headed assessment if you ask me, especially considering the game we just lost and the amount of energy, time, and emotion i've invested in the wings this year. the season is at an end. it's not an easy pill to swallow. especially since, other than the ducks, there isn't another team i'l like less to lose the cup to.

Crosby didn't shake our players hands?

i can't stand it when people pass judgement on posters blowing off steam. from my experience there are two types of posters on the forum, those that bash the teams after a loss, and those that bash posters bashing the team after a loss. only one of the two try to make it personal. there's no need to make it personal. if people don't expect or tolerate complaining after the biggest game of the season has been lost, they probably shouldn't bother visiting this site after the biggest game of the season has been lost. i've watched every game this year. i've invested a lot of emotion into this team this year. it's natural i'm going to be pissed off after a loss of this magnitude. but as disappointed as i feel, i didn't get personal with another poster. i directed my disappoinment to the game, where it belongs.

Crosby didn't shake our players hands?

i can't stand crosby. not only did he not shake hands with the team, he snubbed babs at the end. babs paid crosby some big compliments and crosby never looked at him, just kind of nodded his head, and skated off. he's a prick through and through. i can't believe he's celebrating with the cup right now.

Were They Too Complacent Going Into Game 7?

games six and seven the wings were much too complacent and started getting into the game much too late. we had a good start tonight, but after stuarts dumbs*** slashing penalty in the first, the wings coasted until it was too late. the team that wanted to win more won. it ended how it should have. the wings didn't really show this series that they deserved to be hoisting the cup right now, unfortunately.
  24. datsyukismyfriend

    Is it Safe to Say?.......

i can't stand either ******* team. that said, the wings played like they actually gave a damn against the ducks. against the pens the wings have coasted 2/3 of the time. so it's clear the wings dislike the ducks more.

SCF GAME 7 GDT: Penguins 2 at Red Wings 1

the pens deserved it. they were the better, hungrier team. i can't believe crosby's hoisting the cup. as much as i can't stand him, his team was better. game 7 of the cup finals is as well as you can do without lifting it, so despite the loss, it was a good season. we saw a team that was clearly more driven. the team that plays harder and wants it more should win, and i think that was the case. homer, dats, and hossa had terrible post-seasons. they need to focus and when the playoffs come around next year, i hope one of them (if we still have hossa) shows up.
