Great thread, I very rarely post not sure why but I genuinely enjoy reading the forums on a fairly daily basis so thank you very much to Matt and the Mods! -
SCF Game 5 GDT: Penguins 4, Red Wings 3 (3OT)
redwingsfansince87 replied to aflac9262's topic in General
My heart is seriously racing, thank god the Wings are mostly keeping incredible control of the game and are keeping pressure on the 5 Pens D-Men. I've had this odd feeling all day that Filppula would win it in overtime. Granted at this point as long as the puck gets across the red line behind Fleury I really don't care who puts it in! -
Not a ton of people were there but the atmosphere was incredible! They went through the pregame as if the team was there. During the band that was playing before the game someone was smart enough to bring a bunch of beach balls which were flying all over the place. I was really glad a few friends and I made the 2 1/2 hour trip to go watch the game down there.

The one point that I got upset with the coverage was with the Stuart giveaway that led to the first goal. The crew just kept talking about how amazing Crosby was and then proceeded to show the replay countless times. I don't know about anyone else but the way I saw it was the Stuart simply made a bad pass intended to Zetterberg and Crosby made a play that most NHL players should do took the turnover to the net and buried it granted it was a nice play and Crosby did what he was supposed to do why didn't NBC call it was it was the Pens finally capitalizing on an opportunity instead of OMGZ Sid is so amazingly fantastic. I was upset further when Franzen's great individual effort goal got nearly no mention after the fact and replayed only once or twice. Rant over

Stuart had a bad game tonight and made a few bad decisions. I don't think tonight was that big of a deal everyone has their bad games and tonight was his. Granted his first mistake led to Crosby's first goal. I would like to point out that he made a great recovery play on Crosby coming through the neutral zone which at first everyone though Sid was going to be off to the races. I don't see anything to worry about yet, the Wings are still up 2-1. I see Game 4 being a lot like tonight's game very intense, I think if the Wings can play a little more physical, get back to closing up the neutral zone, and forcing the Pens into the first big mistake, I see a 3-1 series lead in the Wings future.

I'm trying not to get excited about the possibility of this happening but my fingers are crossed for sure!

I would really hope that they do this, I know that the group of friends that I've been watching all of the playoff games with would drive down there for sure, especially if it was a game where the Wings could win the cup.

The Wings just need to continue to make Pitt play their game by playing keep away and limiting their shots. Also they need to keep the physical play up that they did in game 1 if we can keep Crosby and Malkin rattled, they will not be eliminated but it will really help the Wings chances to take a 2-0 series lead into Pittsburgh. I'm really excited to see what the addition of Franzen to the lineup will do, I'm not really expecting him to continue on his goal a game pace, but I'm sure his presence will be felt. FEED THE MULE!!

Win or lose this SCF, it sure has been great to read these awesome articles that have been coming out. So many nice stories have seemed to come out these last few weeks here. I have to say though it would be amazing to see Ozzie raise the Conn Smythe trophy over his head at the conclusion of this series.

Granted yes, Homer is marked man there is no question about that, without a doubt he is the best in the league at what he does. Like VM said every team is trying to groom a Homer for their team. As good as the idea of reviewing the calls, I'm really not sure if it will make that much of a difference. I know that things happen so quickly on the ice that a lot of the time it is really hard to differentiate between what is or isn't interference but, no matter what it will still be a judgment call by the officials. I think it will help a little bit but I don't think it is going to be a fix all. On the flip side there has been a lot of talk about this lately and the name Dan O'Halloran has been said a lot lately maybe this will erase just a little bit of the mark off of Homer. All that being how about the shot by Lidstrom on that play, even if Homer wasn't there I have a feeling that shot was going in.

Mule Unleashed: Franzen a GO for Game 2
redwingsfansince87 replied to chrisdetroit's topic in General

Hey everyone, I look at this forum on pretty much a daily basis, but rarely post and I have just a quick question about the Western Conference Champions merchandise. A few friends and I are going to the Tigers game tonight and with Hockeytown Cafe right across the road and Hockeytown Authentics on the way, I would like to stop and buy a hat or a t-shirt with Western Conference Champions on it, but is ok to buy the merch before the SCF or is it a curse like touching the trophy? Just wondering what everyone thinks. Thanks and GO WINGS!

I'm heading down to the game tomorrow night against the Stars, is there any chance that DMac might suit up? I've been looking all over to try and find some info, but can't. Thanks in advance from a long time reader and not very often poster.

I couldn't agree more, I don't really care when the WCF and SCF end just as long as they end with the Wings winning. Even though it is pretty interesting that we are following the same path we did in 02, let's just hope it ends the same way.

I really don't understand the need to point fingers after this loss myself. Let's face it the TEAM didn't convert on a few 5 on 3's and Giguere played a very solid game between the pipes. Another thing is that without Pronger it may have given the Ducks just a little extra to come out of the gate with. Although on paper the suspension looked great for the Wings, but the Ducks are looking pretty good coming out of that game with a win and Pronger got a night off. Anyways the loss isn't the worst thing in the world the series is only 2-2 and I know its not 3-1 but it could be worse.

I'm not saying it wasn't a great play by Dats by keeping with the play and getting in his face giving him nowhere to go with the puck, but it wasn't the best piece of netminding I have ever see either. So I guess you win I take it back.
-
I couldn't agree with you more. Its really great to see the credit he is getting in the playoffs, even though he is becoming some what of a marked man. The last game says it all 2 goals, 1 assist, 13 stitches.

Big Snake is playing in the UHL now, but living just outside of Saginaw and going to many Spirit games Big Snake was a player that stood out like none other. Granted the Spirit don't fight the most anytime the Attack were in town he was always wiping the ice with whoever the "enforcer" on the Spirit was that season. But, as interesting as he was to watch I wouldn't put a ton of stock in ever seeing him play for the Wings.

JS Giguere will start the game in net, the Ducks are only down 1 game and its not like he has been playing terrible in net. He hasn't made any bonehead moves like Nabby practically giving a goal away to Dats in the last series.
