what is he really going to do, though? Downey didn't "put up" with Tootoo either but if that opportunity arises for Tootoo to behead someone, he's going to do it regardless who we have dressed. At this point in his career I'm not even certain I like DMac's chances against Tootoo in a scrap... I think it would be closer than some expect. I liked the idea that Drake might be able to gun him down and give him a taste of his own medicine open ice, but judging from game 1 that's gonna be pretty hard... Personally I'd like to counter with an energy line of Drake, Abdelkader and maybe Draper... get on their D a bit
-
I like the idea of that, especially since in our system we don't seem to have any sureshot top 6 players, it's mostly role players like Helm and Abdelkader.
-
I'm not 100% for Downey playing in the playoffs or anything, I want the best team on the ice - whether it's Downey, Drake, McCarty, Hartigan, Helm, Abdelkader, whatever is working. But Downey doesn't just fight, I'm not much of a stats guy so I wouldn't know for sure but I'd be suprised if Downey didn't have the best hit to minute ratio on the entire team. He can also create havoc infront of the net, which is crucicle for the playoffs.

I've thought about having Naslund too and I think he'd be a great fit, especially since he's had a couple off years. His wrist shot alone can adjust a team's coverage in their own zone, he has one of the most lethal snipeshows when coming off the half boards, that could open up a lot of room for Zetterberg or Datsyuk, whoever his centerman is
-
I'd be pretty suprised if he didn't crack the line up, I don't see Drake coming back and Abdelkader just seems like a perfect replacement
-
It's unfortunate Kopecky was injured... but it's kind of ironic that the guy they've been mentoring into a crash and bang forward for the past couple of years leaves the game and Abdelkader comes in his first game ever and plays a fantastic game, crash and bang is his natural type of play and he had 3 real solid hits tonight and had a few great scoring chances in pretty limited ice time, great to see

for me it's Laraque Brashear McGrattan Belak Orr Boogaard King Ivanans Godard Hordichuk
-
it would be more believable if you said they told Hasek to throw the game, not Downey
-
thanks redwings56, that is perfect to get me through the week lol

Marian Hossa (completes top 6) Jim Vandermeer (replace Lilja) Brad Stuart (resign, 2nd pairing) Laraque > Belak > Godard > Downey (4th line enforcer) Darren McCarty (checking role) Chris Gratton (3rd line center) Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Franzen Filppula Hossa Cleary Gratton Laraque Maltby Draper McCarty Kopecky Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart Quincey Vandermeer Meech Ok I picked 6 instead... I know it's unrealistic and no idea where Samuelsson, Hudler, Kopecky, Lilja, Lebda would go but who cares

damn, I rely on these wallpapers to know when we play lol
-
I'll take Datsyuk.. he's the guy I'd much rather have the puck and he's the guy who is more likely to strip someone in the neutral zone and turn the play back upwards. When Datsyuk is on the ice the play is never in our end. Zetterberg is great as well but I notice that he takes a lot more high risk opportunities on offense and loses the puck much more than Datsyuk does
-
He's gonna be getting challenges all night from the Blues, unless told specifically not to fight, I don't see how he doesn't go with Mayers or Jackman edit: especially because it's at the Joe
-
Quincey wouldn't be an enforcer but he's a great team guy to have around and he's one of those guys who can bring a lot to team toughness throughout the season, I was really hoping he'd play this year

3/27 Update: Samuelsson has groin issue, Filppula ready
skacore replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
with no Downey in the line up that is going to be a tall order for McCarty on his first game back, especially at the Joe... if he's smart he'll be turning down challenges left and right from any of St. Louis' big boys -
wow great thanks.. I figured Kindl wouldn't have faired well because I remember Boychuck beat Bootland a few years back in preseason and seems like a regular fighter... that's a shame to hear Quinceys first fight never took off but great to hear he went after Purinton, I gotta say I was kinda scared when I saw he fought Purinton lol
-
do you think you could break down the 4 fights briefly? thanks
-
keep it touch icing.. not even for the "excitement" it brings to the fans, just for what it brings to the game, if you can beat a guy to the puck good for you, you deserve to continue playing... they refs need to enforce the 5 min major and game misconduct penalty that they gave Carcillo this week when a player makes contact with another during an icing race

wahhh wahh wahhhh wah wah wahhh
-
the only other trio that comes close i'd say is DJ King, Cam Janssen, and Matt Walker, 3 heavies who play on a reg basis
-
hahahah that was sick by Drake..how didn't he get a penalty
-
I like seeing the young guys get their shot... I think if it is Downey out with the flu, Tardif might've been a better replacement, he's really picked up his game this year, but with McCarty coming back soon I see no problem calling up Ritola

I was watching the Blues/Flames game tonight as well with anticipation but it was disappointing. King/Janssen had plenty shifts with Godard and I only recall once where it looked like King may have issued a challenge but Godard ignored him. That punk Johnson who was "trying to fight" Downey the other night was roughing up Sarich in a scrum and Sarich said to him "Let's go, anytime", I remember reading his lips clearly. What are the chances of Downey vs. Eager tomorrow night? ...unlikely I think, maybe we'll see a lightweight bout
-
There were two incidents involving Pronger early in the game. He was wearing a jaw protector on his helmet. First, Bourque high-sticked Getzlaf and Pronger went to have words with him and Bourque just turned around and gave Pronger's jaw a gloved shot. Getzlaf got up and went after Bourque but they had linesmen between them. Second, Pronger hit Adams from behind and Eager came over and confronted Pronger, later in the play he shoved him again and that was enough for Randy to send out Parros. Eager was taking the puck behind the net and Parros took a huge charge at him and smoked him into the glass, then Parros offered Eager to square off but Eager obviously would not, a second later Parros dropped the gloves and filled in Eager with some overhands that hit nothing and some uppercuts that may have landed. On the Bourque play, that is a ***** move IMO because Bourque was first to engage in giving Pronger a gloved shot and Bourque isn't even a fighter. Getzlaf wanted to go with Bourque and that is fine. On the Eager play, Pronger and the Ducks can't expect a free ride when Pronger makes a dirty hit on Adams (somehow he got no penalty, should of been boarding). Eager did the right thing by confronting Pronger and Eager knew there would be payback from the Ducks. Parros going after Eager was also the right thing to do IMO, because you gotta respond if a guy goes after your captain, whether he deserved it or not. 7 minute powerplay, but it's easy to kill off those kind of penalties. It all worked it's way out, both teams did the right thing, but yeah Parros has no right to preach to the media about it
