    Darren Helm

I'm really excited about Helm and Abdelkader, my two favourite prospects by far Helm will be a perfect replacement for Draper, and Abdelkader should fit somewhere between a mixture of Maltby/McCarty

in 2004 Shanny split open Jim Cummins pretty nicely... not a decisive victory but I'd say a victory non the less... Jim Cummins was a lesser heavyweight at the time

    Matt Walker

Matt Walker is not a bad defenseman, he can play 3rd pairing minutes on any team. A bit of an old school guy, stay at home, punishes in front of the net and along the boards, but isn't the greatest skater. I'm amazed people have critiqued his fighting ability, he is an excellent fighter. He may not win any of his fights decisively but that is because he takes on the league's finest. He is a legit light heavyweight and could probably hang with anyone in the NHL aside from the top 5. I don't expect the Wings to make a move for him but he is my ideal 3rd pairing defenseman, especially to play alongside Brett Lebda. I've always been a fan of throwback defensemen like Matt Walker, Sean O'Donnell, Jim Vandermeer, Brendan Witt, etc. EDIT: and he is only 28

2/9 GDT: Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 2 (OT)

aflac what makes you think Downey is in? I expected him to play in 1 game of the back to backs but I figured it would be against Anaheim and Drake would be in for Toronto

Who's the next sleeper out there?

I think Ellis will eventually grow on people when given a regular checking line shift he has always started out slow and evnetually became a force (OHL, ECHL, AHL...)

After the goonery the Leafs displayed tonight I just pray we have Downey dressed on Saturday.. 20-0 or not, I'll still be embarrassed if that 4th line goes out like they did tonight and we have no answer whatsoever

I can't wait until our game against Toronto this Saturday... I've from Toronto so even though I don't like them Leafs are still kinda my #2 team, and maybe I'm biased but CBC Saturday night games just get me so much more pumped. Last game against the Leafs in preseason they managed to squeeze 2 fights out of us and we didn't have a very tough line up (Cleary, Grigorenko). With all the Leaf's injuries they have Belak, Ondrus, Newbury all up in the line up.. on top of Tucker, Gill I don't want to hope for an injury but I would love to see Downey and Drake both in... Drake could hold his own against Newbury, Ondrus, Tucker but I don't like Downey's chances against Belak... maybe he can sucker Ondrus to go either way I think there are some good match ups and I can't wait

    Red wings and Sharks Both...

Chad Kilger is by far Toronto's most physical forward, especially on the forecheck. I don't know how many hits he has this year but I'd be very surprised if he didn't have the best hit to minute ratio on the Leafs, maybe up there in the league as well

    McCarty with Grand Rapids

well if anything thinks he is going to come back and become a top 6 forward that's obviously not going to happen, but him being a top 6 scorer in 3 years straight would suggest he had the talent to be a top 6 forward... and when he was in his prime he was a real physical force which is a great mix with the right skilled players

    Phaneuf re-signs: 6-years, $39m

22 years old... biggest hitter in the league... logs huge minutes for Calgary... PP QB... 20 goals rookie year... 49 and 50 points in his first two seasons in the league, on pace for 50 again... a plus player... one of the most intimidating players in the league... it's a great signing

    Wings Playoff Roster

I've seen Kubina's name come up a couple times now on here... he's big but he's not physical at all, or a stay at home D man

    David Koci on waivers

not a fan of Koci... he's just a big goon who is an average heavyweight and no way could he take over Downey's minutes, as limited as they may be

    Report: Brunnstrom chooses Detroit?

he plays a lot like Forsberg from every video i've seen of him so far, looks a bit like him too lol

    Who we watching?

you ask "who?" then try to play GordieSid&Ted like the fool.. if you haven't heard of Jared Boll that says a little bit about your NHL awareness, anyways... Jared Boll is 21, good size at 6'2 206, one of the most physical players so far this year, especially on the forecheck and he leads the league with 18 regular season fights.... and oh yeah, he's disciplined! on top of his 5 goals, 3 were game winners while getting under 10 minutes a game.. he put up very respectable numbers in the OHL (41 pts, 55 pts) while being a physical force and he's carried that game to the NHL level at such a young age. he is not a replacement for Downey, although essentially he could be, but he's more than just an enforcer, every team in the league would like Jared Boll in their system

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Blake may not be the great physical D-man he once was but he is still one of the most physical D in the league... I'd like to say more than anyone on our team but Lilja has been playing great lately. And yeah Blake still intimidates players... trust me if you're going down his side of the ice, you make sure you keep your head up

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Kubina doesn't bring the physical game and intimdation factor that Blake does.... not even close

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

I know but do you not think they value San Jose's or Vancouver's 1st round pick more than Detroit's? They definitely put that into consideration

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Points aside, Michalek has great size and Kesler is actually great defensively, both are also 3 years younger and not as injury prone as Kronwall, you have to take that into consideration... also, the Wings' 1st rounder will be 30th overall, the Sharks and Canucks will be more so around 20th...for what it's worth... I'm not sure I'd rate them on Kronwall's skill level but you have to factor everything in and Hudler is the same age as both Michalek and Kesler

guys like that are good for the game.. if guys who intimidate opponents on the ice cause they haev no idea what theyre going to do next are gone, enforcers will slowly die down...and that's not something i want
