Besides Canada, what country produces the best hockey players?
skacore replied to a topic in General
I really don't see what you see in Ohlund I guess, the only thing that stands out to me is that he is arguably the #2 Swedish d-man right now.. I guess to each his own, but I don't see how you can simply say that those players I listed (and many, many more) are not "elite".. you listed Phaneuf, but Weber isn't on the same skill level as him? how so? I'm not trying to take anything away from Sweden but IMO Canada clearly produces the best hockey players, including player to population ratio... when it comes to Canadian players there is just way, way too much depth -

I see what you are saying but let's be realistic here, I am a big fan of of Team Sweden when international tournaments come around but after their top 2 lines they don't have the strongest team. You listed 16 Canadians and 7 Swedes, does that mean they are the only top notch players? Definitely not.... if you list Alfredsson and Spezza you might aswell go and add Heatley up there, if you are going to add Ohlund you could also add a handful of Canadian D up there: Blake, Regehr, Jovanovski, Weber, Foote, Bouwmeester, etc.. Sweden has a better ratio when it comes to maybe the top 10 players in the NHL, after that there is just way too much Canadian depth IMO.. if you take a look at the 1st round of this years draft (I know teams sometimes prefer North American players, but skill is skill) 16 Canadians compared to 1 Swede -
I'll take Shea Weber plz

lol, there was nothing to disagree with, I was simply pointing out something that seemed a bit odd, such a big defensive D man that had a couple ridiculous playoff point tallies in comparison to his regular seasons, that's it, and you decided to be a dick about it
-
did you even read my post, idiot? I just said that I noticed those stats when I was looking at his profile, it's unusual for a player's point total to jump THAT much from regular season to playoffs get off your high horse buddy
-
I'd love to see us sign Sutton, he is a solid D man and has some more than just that to offer I was just checking out Andy Sutton's stats on NHL.com and check this out, it's pretty nuts here is his junior regular season: GP G A P 1991-1992 Gananoque OHA-B 36 11 9 20 1992-1993 Gananoque OHA-B 38 14 9 23 check out how much he stepped up in playoffs: 1991-1992 Gananoque OHA-B 14 9 21 30 1992-1993 Gananoque OHA-B 12 16 13 29 he basically went from 0.6 (estimate) points a game to 2.2 (estimate), and held it for a 26 game span

what are our chances of keeping our 1st rd pick ?
skacore replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
I could see us trading it for two 2nd rounders, it would be nice to snag someone + Akim Aliu in the 2nd rather than using our 1st on him -
lol I don't know how you could statistically say it's the worst draft year ever, but it is a bad year for sure I'd be pumped if the Wings took Akim Aliu, but I don't see that happening.. with the high risk involved I don't see us taking him with our 1st rounder and he won't be available in the 3rd, but I have faith in our scouting team that we can grab the same kind of player in a later round, with the same kind of long shot chance that Aliu can develop into a great physical player

1. Claude Lemieux 2. Mike Keane 3. Tie Domi 4. Bob Boughner 5. Jim Cummins
-
His favourite player is Lidstrom and favourite team is Detroit too
-
Nashville got their 1st round pick back rather than losing both of those players to free agency in 2 weeks anyways...
-
I'm not against resigning Markov, but how many of those hits did he have all year? 1...
-
I've only seen a bit of Justin Abdelzader but isn't he supposed to bring the same type of game?

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
skacore replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
Neil obviously wanted to plow over MacDonald and no it was not a clean hit, but what exactly are you guys trying to say? It is worthy of a suspension? Give me a break... 2 minutes for charging or 2 minutes for roughing, take your pick... this IS hockey remember -
I'll take Derek Boogaard, Chris Neil, but realistically I'd be happy if we signed Scott Hartnell
-
I don't think it would take much to ply him out of Chicago.. wasn't he scratched like half the year? he isn't the greatest and most mobile D, but his physical presence, raw skill, and ability to fight anyone in the league is enough for me to want him in Detroit!

man Jim Vandermeer would be a dream

still don't see anything from that picture that would make it more than 2 minutes for roughing -

I've seen the hit probably the same amount as you have seen it (2: live, and replay) and it's a very common play in hockey.. one player has momentum and goes into another playing and explodes pushing through him and the other player dodges and turns his back to him, yeah it can look bad, his hands go over his back and he flies over him.. it was not even close to the blatent elbow that Pronger dropped on McAmmond's face, if McDonald stuck around and took his hit like most players in the league do to make the play, and THEN Neil hit him in the face with an elbow that's a totally different story and then your post has some credibility behind it. Just stating your opinion like I am that's fine, not coming here to stir up s***? Like 5 seconds after I replied to your post you called me an idiot because I didn't agree with you -

no, you and your Duck's butt buddy are idiots... I said HE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE THE HIT ("*****") and turned and tried to dodge it, that's why Neil went flying over him with his arms out, he was going to explode into the hit and whoever the other guy was didn't wanna take the hit... learn to read, but you obviously came here to stir up s*** so what I type really has no effect anyways -

McDonald pussied out and didn't take the hit thats why it looked so bad and Neil went flying over him -
Ducks; A disgrace to NHL? Trend for good ol' hockey going to the
skacore replied to a topic in General
I think we are more of a disgrace to be honest, our line up is so soft (although we did play a bit out of character these playoffs) that we have to RELY on the refs to call penalties for us and RELY on the league to give suspensions because we can't back it up ourselves... as a fan of physical/tough hockey, I think we are ruining the game more than the Ducks are -
