George McPhee would be pretty stupid to say the least if he was to accept an offer like that, taking on that contract. Also in the opposite side of things I think we would be stupid to do that as well. I don't think Franzen's stock is all that high but to basically give him to the Caps for Semin (Who I doubt we would retain) is just idiotic. Plain and simple, its bad both ways you look at it.

I think Helm's speed and penalty kill abilities are too valuable to include him in the trade. I don't have a problem trading the Mule or Kindl though. As far as Washington's end of the deal not sure if I would want that gamble or not on Mike Green, he's been really held back lately with injuries. As far as Laich goes, I don't know too much about his game but from the small samples I've seen he's not to bad, but as the deal stands I would say No thanks.

When did Yzerman take a complete year off besides the lockout? If that's what you are talking about I would consider it a little different since everyone had to take the year off, and a lot players played across seas or in some type of organized league to keep in top shape. Maybe I misunderstood what I read? I thought he wanted to take a year off and come back...? Oh man I knew someone would nail me for that. I still think its a little bit different though. The type of people/players Thomas and Hasek are. Both different in my opinion. It would all depend on if Thomas still worked out and such as well. If he sat around playing video games and out partying and stuff like that I would be real skeptical on signing him. EDIT: Hasek actually sat out a year though without playing? He would be crazy to sit out at his age... He is what either 38 or 39 I forget. If he sits a year out and trys to come back he'll be pushing 40 years old. What GM is going to want to sign a 40 year old goalie who has been sitting around for a full year?? Big mistake if he does that.

Smith should be a lock, and I think Jurco will be a pretty solid player. None of the others will be considered "elite, or stars" in my opinion.

I cannot recall exactly who or when it was said, pretty sure it was on NBC or one of those channels that Brodeur hoped to play another season next year. If that is true I don't see them making an offer for him. I don't think they would want to part with any of their players either. Another note is that since they are strapped for cash that would be hefty contract to add.

L-O-L! If Detroit could somehow make this happen we sign both Parise and Suter I would be so happy. The last time I was extremely pleased about what the wings did in the offseason was the 2001-2002 year. Boy oh boy was that a great summer full of great signings! I agree with you. Little overbearing right now with all these "realistic" or "crazy" or "most likely to happen" threads about all the free agents and trades. Just need a big thread for all this off season talk. Oh well I guess! Side note, to comment on the actual thread I don't really see any of that happening besides AV going to coach in Montreal.
