Omg I am a happy man. Besides the redwings, the flyers are my favorite team. Glad they pulled the upset on the Devils to advance to the 2nd round. Now I all I need is for Montreal to come back and win so they don't have to play Ovi and the Caps! Sad ending to a season for Brodeur, hes my favorite NHL goalie ever.

I went to the Frozen Four Championship game last night and Wisconsin didn't look good at all. They got shutout 5-0. However, I cannot wait to see him play in a wings jersey someday!

So I am watching the Avalanche - Canucks on versus, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs commercial just came on with Yzerman scoring that remarkable goal in overtime verse St. Louis. It got me thinking of all the memories I've watching Detroit Hockey over the past 10-15 years. I just wanted to say I love the Detroit Red Wings and all the entertainment they have provided me on and off the ice. Just a enlightening drama free thread to say some positive team for our wings! : )

That was a good clip. Good little tidbit of info. I can't wait for the playoffs to start, and I really hope the Red Wings continue this hotstrreak and ride it deep into the playoffs. Lets Go Red Wings!

Lines look good to me. Hopefully they are not all exhausted and worn out after all these Olympic games in a short period of time. I think having a full complete roster (for the most part) back will spark the team with some energry. This should hopefully give the Red Wings a late season surge and boost themselves into the playoffs.

Canada has a good team. Due to all the hype and the Olympics being in there homeland, I think there slightly overrated.

I apologize if this has brought up before but regardless I figured it'd be a good topic to discuss. When awarded a penalty shot a player gets a one on one chance against the goalie to score a goal. Once the shot is taken play is to resume. I think this rule should be changed up a bit. A penalty shot is awarded when the referee can distinguish the player was in a shooting motion. Now the debate is this, if the player doesn't score they resume play. I think the rule should be changed; based on if a goal is scored on the penalty shot. If a goal is scored the play then resumes normally. If a penalty shot is not scored I think there should then be a normal standard two minute power play opportunity. A penalty shot should be a bonus to the team awarded it, for being mid-shot when a infraction was called. You could end up with someone who is very very low in shootout/penalty show percentage and this could have very little chance of making a goal. So after all my rambling the question is what does everyone think? Should the team that was awarded a penalty shot receive a two minute power play if one doesn't score on the penalty shot chance? Or should they leave the rule as is?

Its not called paragraph long rebuttals, its called debate. Thats something that happens on forums if you haven't figured that out yet. Theres a difference between debate, stating your opinion and reasons and trying to insult someone for what the said. Oh Really? It doesn't have to do with severity? Then why are there 2, 4, 5, and 10 minute penalties? Yeah... because depending on ones actions and severity of the penalty, he is given one of those amounts. Again NHL10 has nothing to do with this topic, it just reminded me of a debate me and a few others were talking over. Last time I checked anything can remind you of something else for whatever reason. NHL10 has no credibility in this topic to back up my statements, just was brought up as thats what reminded me. Yeah I do, can I please have three? Like I said, I have no problem with you stating your opinion on my topic, which you did. But it was your smart re-marks that was uncalled for. NHL10 is a SIMULATION, something that follows the rules of the real NHL. I've had this discussion with friends as well, and the video game is what triggered my memory. Who gives a rat's ass wether I seen it in a live game or playing a game. Penalty shots occur in both, correct me if I am wrong so my point still stands as a credible topic. Get real here, and stop trying to act like your tough on the internet. My point still stands strong however to the other respectable posters in this topic. I look at like this: (This might be a bad analogy lol) If someone commits a lesser crime, they do lesser time. The more severe the crime is, the more sever the punishment. In hockey alluding to a penalty shot is obviously worse of the a penalty, as where the player "was in shooting motion" and/or could of scored. That being said the team should get a penalty shot and if they fail to convert I think they should get a powerplay to follow. (Unless scored on it the penatly shot of course).

I didn't ask for you ignorance either. My statement of playing a game that sparked a question about a rule in the NHL. Were are not talking how come I can get Iginla in NHL10 and the wings can't in real life. My thread was initially started to discuss what everyone thought about being awarded a penalty if failing to convert on a penalty shot attempt. So I please suggest leaving the bashing out in your future posts.

That is actually what sparked this thread. I was playing a game of NHL10 with the LA Kings in my dynasty and a lesser-skilled player was the one brought down. Which arose this topic.

See, this is where I disagree. When in the motion of shooting/on a breakaway you have a better chance to score. However, if that player is not of penalty shot caliber and fails, the team should be given a power play. Penalty shots do not occur often so its not like there would be over kill with this having "two rewards". Like stated, if a penalty shot is awarded and scored on there is no power play. Action would then resume. I just think the team awarded the penalty shot should have a little extra bonus if they fail to convert on a penalty shot.

Can you provide any reason as to why you think that? To justify my original post, I feel like a 2 minute power play has a higher chance of scoring a goal then a penalty shot does. So, if one is awarded with a penalty shot and fails to score, they should be given a standard power play to follow. A penalty shot would just be *added bonus* for "almost scoring" when the player was taken down. Its easier to blow a penalty shot then a whole power play.

Oh woops, sorry I did a breif scan and didn't see anything. Must be blind. But that would totally suck. Esp when your equipment is all fitted and broken in, and you now need to start fresh with not much time to break it all in before your next game.
