The game was on at about 5:30 so I missed it. 7-2. 7 goals AGAIN? What the heck is wrong with this team? The only positives are that Mursak scored which will be great for his confidence, Tatar made his debut and had an assist and was +1 and also that the next game is at home.

Good for Sammy, I don't mind him. 5 of his 7 points have been on the PP, pretty telling. As others have said, he's very streaky, so expect his production to dry up shortly.

10/17 GDT: Avalanche 4 at Red Wings 3, (SO)

Filppula a 4th liner, unbelievable. I knew you didn't like him but now you've just gone and lost all credability. -
^ Awesome! Disappointing loss today, can't believe we could outshoot them by such a number and still lose by 3 giving up 7 goals.

Well given you've proven time and time again you're a Flip basher with nothing good to say about him, I'm not putting too much stock in your anti Filppula posts. -

Freaking ridiculous Detroit. Such a pathetic loss. -

Draper with Helm? Are we trying to prevent them from scoring rather than go for the win ourselves? -
The comeback? K. Newbury (1) F. Lemieux, D. Janik M. Walsh (1) D. Janik, J. Vigilante J. Tardif (1) M. Ritola Still down 2, what a horrible 1st.

OK, I'd be happy with a point from this game now. -
Wow, overreaction much? 7 games into the season, a very looooong season, he'll play many games over the course of it and impress in due time. FWIW, I think he's looked fine.

I knew he'd score his first against Detroit, absolutely knew it would happen. Always does. -
Oh. My. Gosh. After 1 period, Griffins down SIX-ONE. Six.
-
Good going by the Griffins early, outshooting San Antonio 8-4. Pity that we're already down 3-0!!!!!!!!!!

Flip is playing with confidence right now and it's doing wonders for his game. He's being more assertive, he's playing in all situations and he's making the most of the chances Babcock is giving him. It's great that he's able to play on a line with a fellow countryman and the two have great chemistry. He played almost 23 minutes against Los Angeles, now if that's not a sign of a player who has the confidence of his coach then I don't know what it. Keep it up Flip, you're doing great.
-
Excellent! I love your great recaps. You and GROwl are terrific.
-
Finland. Gotta support Flip! Can't wait for the Olympics, going to take a massive interest in the hockey and fortunately I think the TV coverage will be okay this time around.

Phenomenal start to the season for Coetzee. Been following Red Deer's scores this season and it seems every game he's just tearing it up. I hope he can keep it up and become a big time point producer this season. Now for Ferraro to get back soon and have a Red Wings duo in Red Deer.

Grand Rapids Griffins (1-1-0-0) @ Texas Stars (2-1-0-1) 7:30 pm CDT The Grand Rapids Griffins are again on the road as they take on the Texas Stars. This is their third game of the season and have split their previous two games. Tomas Tatar has been a healthy scratch in the opening two games and while he isn't a certainty to play tonight he should (fingers crossed) make his debut. Perhaps they are waiting to be back at home for Tatar to make his debut but surely now is as good a time as any. The offence has been lacking a tad as has the PP as the Griffins are converting at 11.1% (1 from 9). Throw in Tatar's skill and that might stand to change, although Texas are a perfect 14 from 14 on the PK. Maybe the Wings could learn a thing or two... Texas have a number of former Griffins in their line-up including centre Aaron Gagnon, livewire forward Landon Wilson and point producing defenceman Garrett Stafford. As a result there could be some intriguing battles in this game and the Griffins need to win to keep a positive W/L ratio from their 5 game road trip to start the season. Expect to see a reasonably low scoring affair as Texas have been stingy and interestingly enough despite their record they have been outshot in every game. Projected lines: Ritola - Newbury - Williams Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Axelsson - Emmerton - Tardif Crosty - Vigilante - Tatar (Mursak/Walsh) Kindl - Janik Kolosov - Delmore Pyett - Ehrhardt (Piche) Larsson McCollum Individual Leaders: Goals: Axelsson, Delmore, McGrath, Janik, Williams (1) Assists: Axelsson, Pare, Tardif, Ritola (1) Points: Axelsson (2), 7 tied (1) PIM: Crosty (7), Mursak, Newbury (6) Plus/Minus: 9 tied (+1) Notes: * Not sure who gets the start tonight, Larsson started the previous game and might go tonight but McCollum deserves another after his strong debut. * Tomas Tatar should (for the THIRD time!) make his debut tonight. And they've done it again... Goal with 1:33 remaining in the 3rd. McCollum 29 saves on 30 shots, not going to be enough on a side that is really struggling to generate any offence. That's what happens when a side loses 4 of it's 6 highest point scorers from the previous season, or 7 from 11. Struggle street this season? Goaltending is actually the strength.
-
Chemistry is a wonderful thing. 2nd line was great and could've scored a couple. Third line looked good until they took a back seat. Ozzie and Bertuzzi very good and nice to see Homer and Malts continue to contribute.
-
So Rafalski gets rewarded for stuffing up, that's fair.
-
Very tight game, they need to pull out a victory or at the very least a point after their last minute loss to Toronto. Griffins outshot 12-10 that period, McCollum having a fine game. The future! Delmore with 6 SOG, Ritola next best with 3. Griffins need to stay out of the box, 4 minor penalties that period, one a carry over PP.
-
Malts! Tuzzi deserved another point for his hard work.
