Lidstrom & Datsyuk suspended for skipping ASG
Aussie_Wing replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Very well said. Ken Holland makes you proud to be a Red Wings fan. He is a champion. -
Well I'm back, and my bet is stuffed. Murray gone to Verdasco, wow, didn't expect that. Berdych is one of my favourites, Red Wings fan and all, but he is the biggest headcase on tour. 2 sets to love up against Federer and he loses, what a joke. Hopefully Nadal can go all the way here but I'd love to see Djokovic go back to back. As for the women, Dokic has been nothing short of amazing. What a comeback! I think Dementieva will win, she sure deserves it.
-
Heading into OT, you know what that means, a loss coming up. Howard wow, 42 saves.

I'm back, big thanks to Coyote for the GDT's. So glad to see Mursak getting a few consecutive games. And to start tonight's game... 1 - QC Chucko, 0:43 - Roughing , 2 min 1 - GR Mursak, 0:43 - Roughing , 2 min Don't take any rubbish Jan!

Grand Rapids Griffins (24-9-5-3) @ Rockford IceHogs (21-16-0-4) (Will keep using photo until Jan gets back in the line-up!) @ The Grand Rapids Griffins saw their 5 game point streak come to an end last night with a 6-4 loss to the Moose. They started slowly conceding 4 goals in the first period and Larsson was chased as a result. The slow start proved costly as despite scoring 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd they went down 6-4. With the loss the Griffins fell to 2nd place in the North Division, 2 points out of first place. One thing that has been evident in this seasons Griffins team, they seem to respond very well from losses so expect a hungry outfit to take the ice tonight. Mattias Ritola continues to be a bright spark for the team as he extended his point streak to 6 games. Rookie Francis Pare now has 14 goals for the season and has 26 points from as many games. The Griffins have killed off 39 consecutive penalties spanning across a franchise record 10 games. Despite letting in 6 goals last night they were still faultless when down a man. Jimmy Howard should get the start tonight after taking over from an unusually poor Daniel Larsson. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Ritola - Haydar - Gagnon Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Oulahen - Emmerton - Downey Ericsson - Pyett Kolosov - Stafford Kindl - Galvin Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Ritola (15), Haydar, Pare (14) Assists: Leino (25), Kindl (21) Points: Leino (35), Haydar (33) Penalty Minutes: Downey (67), Abdelkader (57) Notes: • Mattias Ritola is on a 6 game point streak (4-4-8). • Francis Pare is tied for 9th in the league for rookie scoring. • Jakub Kindl is 5th in defenceman scoring with 26 points for the season. Nieminen had a great week in Sydney, played well in the final but Nalbandian proved too tough. I was very impressed with Nalbandian's comments in the post match interview, had some very kind words for Jarkko. As for the Australian Open, I think it'll be Murray and Safina claiming the first Slam of the year. Would like to see some youngsters do well too such as Gulbis, Wozniacki and Cornet. I've got tickets for Monday-Thursday on Hisense and Rod Laver Arena on Friday. Mapped out where I'll be heading on Monday... 1/17 & 1/19 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins @ Rockford IceHogs
Aussie_Wing replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
GROwl, uk_redwing, Coyote, instead sending PM's to each of you I might as well just post it here. I'm going away for a week and therefore will be unable to post GDT's. I was wondering whether either of you, or all of you, could post the threads while I'm away? Cheers guys. -
Same here mate, I'll miss this one too. Bit different to work though, I'll be on a plane to Melbourne. Hoping the Wings can build on their impressive victory the other night. Franzen to score the GWG, Filppula to net a goal also as it's been far too long between drinks.
-
I wanted him to fight. Griffins lost 6-4, scored the last 3 goals to at least make things respectable. Ritola registered an assist to extend his point streak to 6 games. Emmerton 2 assists and one of only 2 players (Ritola the other) to finish with a + rating.

Manitoba Moose (27-13-0-2) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (24-8-5-3) @ Manitoba Moose are in town to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins in what looms as a very, very important game for both teams. The Griffins and Moose are currently tied with 56 points apiece but the Griffins are leading the North Division due to playing two fewer games. The Griffins have registered at least a point from their past 5 games going 4-0-1 during the stretch while the Moose won their previous game to start a new streak. Darren Helm's season has continued to go downhill with the speedy centre missing the last game due to injury. His status for tonight is unknown but he is considered a chance to play. Mattias Ritola is enjoying the best stretch of his career having scored a point in his last 5 games and is on a 3 game goal streak. Darren Haydar has begun to turn things around as he is on a 5 game point streak of his own. Howard started the last game and generally the two netminders have been rotating the starts so therefore expect Larsson to start tonight. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Ritola - Haydar - Gagnon Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Oulahen - Emmerton - Downey Ericsson - Pyett Kolosov - Stafford Kindl - Galvin Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Ritola (15) Haydar (14) Assists: Leino (24), Kindl (20) Points: Leino, Haydar (33), Ritola (28) Penalty Minutes: Downey (65), Abdelkader (57) Notes: • Mattias Ritola is on a 5 game point streak (4-3-7). • Rookie Francis Pare has the highest PPG ratio of anyone on the active roster. • Jakub Kindl is 4th in defenceman scoring with 25 points for the season. 5-1 down after 2. Indeed this is humiliating, our first real bad loss of the season. The only positive is that our PK streak has survived the onslaught thus far, extending the streak to 38 consecutive kills.
-
Good fight, Downey sure landed a few. Good work by the refs to for letting them go. How exhausted were they at the end? Not that I'm surprised.
-
Wow, ugly, ugly period. Horrible really. I guess it's just one of those games. Hopefully it doesn't get too out of hand and they at least make it interesting.
-
The Wings don't strike me as an orgnaisation that would release someone after they've signed them long term (ie Flip). If the cap goes down significantly, I see us keeping Hank and Huds, and losing Hossa and Franzen. Sammy is 50/50, depends on price and whether Leino is considered ready.
-
He's only 2 goals behind Flip. Cmon Flipper, join in on the fun.
-
I REFUSE to believe Draper scored, with the goalie IN NET! What is going on out there? Where is FRW?
-
Agreed, who would you rather keep, Hudler or Franzen?
-
First of all BIG thanks to Mac25 for posting the results last week. How good is Ritola? Has gone from a questionable prospect to top 6 potential, just scored his team leading 15th goal of the season. He's on a 5 game point streak (4-3-7) and is also a key member of the leagues best PK. And McGrath, no one seems to pay any attention to him but man he's having a great season.
-
Anyone else convinced now? Just scored his team leading 15th goal of the season, has 28 points in 39 games. Get excited people.
-
Very nice set up, especially like the picture! Yeah they are tough, I haveno idea how aflac managed to do such an amazing job game after game. 0-0 with 7 minutes remaining in the 1st. Howard in net.

Philadelphia Phantoms (20-16-1-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (22-8-5-3) @ The Philadelphia Phantoms will square off against the Grand Rapids Griffins for the second consecutive night. Philadelphia broke their 7 game winless streak with an OT victory last night. The Griffins have recorded a point from their past 3 games and are still leading the North Division. Considering Jimmy Howard got the start last night, Larsson will be in net tonight hoping for a solid performance. Darren Helm continues his struggles and is without a point from the past 5 games. Rookies Cory Emmerton and Jan Mursak both played last night and both finished pointless. If remains to be seen whether either will play again tonight. Justin Abdelkader will be looking to rebound after an awful night last night in which he finished -4. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Oulahen - Helm - Downey Ericsson - Pyett Kolosov - Stafford Kindl - Galvin Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (14), Ritola (13) Assists: Leino (22), Kindl (19) Points: Leino (31), Haydar (30) Penalty Minutes: Downey (65), Abdelkader (55) Notes: • Mattias Ritola is on a 3 game point streak (2-2-4). • Evan McGrath has 12 points from the past 13 games (4-8-12). • Darren Helm is without a point from his past 5 games. Philadelphia Phantoms (19-16-1-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (22-8-4-3) @ The Philadelphia Phantoms are in town to take on the Griffins who are on a 2 game win streak. Philadelphia on the other hand are without a win from their past 7 outings and have taken only 2 points during this stretch. The Griffins have a 3 point lead in the North Division are are tied for 1st in the Conference. Larsson started the last game so the in-form Jimmy Howard will get the start tonight. Darren Helm has been quiet lately and has gone pointless in his last 4 games. He is now mainly playing on the 4th line as the team tries to get him going again. Cory Emmerton has been a healthy scratch the past 2 games but another rookie, Logan Pyett, is coming off a game in which he scored his first pro goal. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Ritola - Gagnon - Haydar Oulahen - Helm - Downey Ericsson - Pyett Kolosov - Stafford Kindl - Galvin Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (14), Ritola (12) Assists: Leino (21), Kindl (18) Points: Leino (30), Haydar (29) Penalty Minutes: Downey (60), Abdelkader (53) Notes: • Captain Darren Haydar has 8 points in 8 games. • Evan McGrath has 11 points from the past 12 games (4-7-11) • Darren Helm is without a point from his past 4 games.
