    1/9 GDT: Phantoms 4, Griffins 3 - OT @ GR

This team absolutely sucks in OT. Seriously, would have to have the worst OT record in the league. Griffins lose 4-3, at least we got a point I guess... Abdelkader -4.

Downey in a fight, nothing new there. Tied at 2 with 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd.

While I haven't completely ruled it out, I think it's unlikely. I did it in the past and while it made things more interesting and the field became a lot closer, it clearly disadvantaged those who had participated every week and deserved to be up near the top. Haydar Video

Thanks for posting the link. I wonder how much of the off-ice issues have distracted him this season? Regardless, he's played well, especially lately. Watching that video really makes me want him to be called up to the Wings at some point this season, he deserves it.
  6. Rockford IceHogs (19-14-0-3) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (21-8-4-3) @ Rockford carry a three game win streak as they come to town to take on the North Division leading Grand Rapids Griffins. Jimmy Howard has been strong in net of late and will most likely get the start tonight. The Griffins are coming off a 2-1 win at the hands of Ritola's 12th of the season late in regulation. Cory Emmerton was a healthy scratch the past game and Jan Mursak took his spot in the line-up and had 3 SOG and -1. Emmerton has been struggling and only has 1 point from his past 7 games. Mursak only has 3 points all season and is still without a goal. Defenceman Sergei Kolosov appears to have cemented his spot in the line-up and will likely be paired with Stafford. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar Oulahen - Helm - Downey Ericsson - Jozsa Galvin - Kindl Kolosov - Stafford Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (14), Ritola (12) Assists: Leino (20), Kindl (17) Points: Leino, Haydar (28) Penalty Minutes: Downey (60), Abdelkader (53) Notes: • Captain Darren Haydar is now tied for the team lead in points and has 7 points in 7 games. • Evan McGrath has 10 points from the past 11 games (4-6-10) TV/Radio: Internet stream: Pay-per-view AHL Live Radio: Grand Rapids Broadcast: Radio feed Box Score

    1/7 GDT: Griffins 6, IceHogs 5 - Shootout @ GR

What a massive, massive penalty kill. Rockford had almost 90 seconds worth of a 5-on-3 late in the 3rd, Griffins kill it off. Griffins up 5-4 with 2:40 remaining. Hold on!

Kindl and Larsson named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team

I think any doubt there was as to who is our best prospect has been erased so far this season. Kindl is definitely the #1, at least IMO. Greatest upside of any of our prospects and his play is now making people take notice. I'm thrilled to see him make the All-Star team and it's great recognition for a much, much improved season. Well done to Larsson too.

    1/7 GDT: Griffins 6, IceHogs 5 - Shootout @ GR

Bit of a crazy game so far. Griffins score 5 goals in the opening period (record?) and are leading 5-3 with 3 minutes remaining in the 2nd.

    1/3 GDT: Griffins 2, Monarchs 1 @ MCH

Grand Rapids Griffins (20-8-4-3) @ Manchester Monarchs (16-14-0-5) @ Despite last night's loss the Grand Rapids Griffins are still top of the North Division. They are again on the road as they take on a surging Manchester team who have gained at least a point from their past 5 games. The Griffins will need offence from more than just the red hot line of Lemieux - McGrath - Pare, as they all contributed for the teams lone goal last night. Daniel Larsson was in net yesterday and he stopped 30 of 32 shots and was awarded the games 2nd star despite the loss. Jimmy Howard will be in net tonight and is coming off a shutout so he will be looking to extend his shutout streak. Manchester have a variety of offensive talents, including the very short but talented Justin Azevedo who has 8 points in 8 games in the AHL. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar Oulahen - Helm - Downey Ericsson - Jozsa Galvin - Kindl Kolosov - Stafford Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (13), Ritola (11) Assists: Leino (19), Kindl (17) Points: Leino (28), Haydar, Helm (26) Penalty Minutes: Downey (60), Abdelkader (53) Notes: • Despite last night's loss, the Griffins have the fewest amount of regulation losses in the league with just 8. • Evan McGrath has 10 points from the past 10 games (4-6-10) TV/Radio: Internet stream: Pay-per-view AHL Live Radio: Grand Rapids Broadcast: Radio feed Box Score

    Gabby out 10+ weeks!

One of my favourite players (in a different sport) is always injured. It's so hard following a player who is always injured and is always getting rubbished because of it. I feel for Gaborik, some people just get no luck and their bodies can't handle the stresses of their sport as well as others.

    1/3 GDT: Griffins 2, Monarchs 1 @ MCH

Scoreless after 2 periods. Shots 23 apiece, Howard in net. Great to see Mursak back in the line-up tonight, and he has a team high 3 shots so far. Emmerton was scratched so Jan could play and I'm really hoping he can cement his spot in the side.

    1/2 GDT: Wolfpack 3, Griffins 1 @ HFD

Grand Rapids Griffins (20-7-4-3) @ Hartford Wolf Pack (16-14-1-3) @ The North Division leading Grand Rapids Griffins hit the road to take on the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Griffins are tied for 1sdt place in the Western Conference as a result of their hot run of form which has seen them take 15 points from a possible 16 from their past 8 games. During the stretch they have conceeded a mere 9 goals and have recorded 2 shutouts. Howard was in net two nights back when the team had a 6-0 victory, and the red hot Daniel Larsson is expected to start tonight where he looks to continue his hot streak. The Griffins have been getting a tremendous boost from the line of Lemieux - McGrath - Pare and the three have been big point producers over the past 8 games. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar Oulahen - Helm - Downey Ericsson - Jozsa Galvin - Kindl Kolosov - Stafford Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (13), Ritola (11) Assists: Leino (19), Kindl (17) Points: Leino (28), Haydar, Helm (26) Penalty Minutes: Downey (60), Abdelkader (53) Notes: • The Griffins have the fewest amount of regulation losses in the league with just 7. • Evan McGrath has 9 points from the past 9 games (4-5-9) TV/Radio: Internet stream: Pay-per-view AHL Live Radio: Grand Rapids Broadcast: Radio feed Box Score

    12/31 GDT: Griffins 6, Chops 0 @ GR

Iowa Chops (18-11-2-2) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (18-7-4-3) @ The Iowa Chops come to Van Andel Arena to take on the North Division leading Grand Rapids Griffins. The Griffins took over sole place of 1st in the Division with last nights 3-1 victory. The Griffins have taken a point from each of their past 7 matches, winning 6 in the process. Iowa are also in good form having taken a point from their past 3. Daniel Larsson's shutout streak may have ended last night but his impressive play continued. He saved a season high 40 shots and is now ranked 4th in S%, 5th in GAA and tied for 1st in SO. He is enjoying a fine rookie season, but Howard should get the start tonight to avoid back-to-back games for the red hot Larsson. Darren Haydar is on a 4 game point streak and Jakub Kindl has 11 points in the past 11 games. Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar Oulahen - Helm - Downey Ericsson - Jozsa Galvin - Kindl Kolosov - Pyett Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (13), Ritola, Abdelkader, Helm (10) Assists: Leino (19), Kindl (17) Points: Leino (27), Haydar, Helm (26) Penalty Minutes: Downey (58), Abdelkader (53) Notes: • The Griffins are tied for 1st place in the Western Conference. • Cory Emmerton is without a point from the past 5 games.
