I think McCarty could be pretty dominant in the AHL. He did put up 10 points in 13 games last season with Grand Rapids and I’d suggest he’s in much better shape now. They could definitely make use of him but the problem is if he plays someone like McGrath or Mursak will always be sitting; they’re loaded enough as it is!

There are a couple of posters here who are in a good position to do something like that. I haven’t caught any games, only followed the box scores, stats and the recaps/comments people provide. Probably doesn’t qualify me to post grades but I could give it my best shot…

Hey guys. I was real busy/tired by the time I usually post the thread yesterday and given it’s going to be posted at least 24 hours later and around Christmas time I was concerned a lot of the regulars wouldn’t participate so for that reason I thought maybe we could give it a miss just for this week. Let me know if that's alright...? Will certainly be back next week.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

Wow Stuckey! 29 points at 3/4! He's going off tonight! -
Stuart= gun! I love the bloke!

That's up quick! What a play by Hossa! And the finish by Dats, what an incredible goal.

Flip's having a strong period. They can never seem to be able to take the puck from him.

Milwaukee Admirals (17-7-0-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (14-7-3-3) @ The Milwaukee Admirals are turning out to be a real nemesis of the Griffins in season 2008/09 as the Griffins have taken only a single point from their 4 meetings. Milwaukee occupy 2nd place in the West Division with 35 points while the Griffins are second in the North with 34. Jimmy Howard has been in net 3 times against the Admirals while Larsson has only had the one start where he conceded 4 goals on 7 shots before being pulled. Former first round pick Hugh Jessiman is off to a slow start this season however he seems to turn it on against the Griffins so he'll need to be stopped. 22 year old prospect Cal O'Reilly is tied for first in assists (27) and 4th in points (32) so he is one to watch. Ville Leino seems to finally be back on track having added a goal and an assist in his last outing. Ericsson has been absent for the past 4 games and Garrett Stafford for the past two; their status for tonight is unknown but I have included them in the possible line-up. Rookie Justin Abdelkader notced up his 10th goal of the season two nights back and now has 8 points in his last 10 games and is tied for 5th in rookie goals. Possible line-up: Oulahen - Helm - Downey Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar McGrath - Gagnon - Pare Ericsson - Stafford Galvin - Kindl Kolosov - Pyett Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (11), Abdelkader (10) Assists: Leino (18), Helm, Emmerton (13) Points: Leino (23), Helm (21) Penalty Minutes: Downey (45), Abdelkader (44) Notes: • Rookie defenceman Sergie Kolosov is in a good vein of form having 2 assists and +3 in his past 3 games. • Jakub Kindl has 4 points in 5 games and is tied for 11th in defenceman scoring. Grand Rapids Griffins (16-7-3-3) @ Rochester Americans (8-20-0-2) @ The Rochester Americans may have the fewest amount of points in the league but this is a danger game for the Griffins. Rochester are on a 3 game winning streak and the Griffins are on the road to play their 4th game in 5 nights. Tonight will mark the first time Shawn Matthias is in uniform against either the Wings or their affiliate. He has recently been sent back down to the AHL and has a mere 4 points and -19 in 20 games so far this season. The Griffins need to get used to life without defenceman Jonathon Ericsson who appears destined for a long stint on the sidelines and Stafford is likely to be out too. As a result of the injuries, defenceman Brett Peterson was recalled from the ECHL however it is unlikely he will play. The line of Lemieux/McGrath/Pare has been white hot having scored 4 goals and added 9 points in their last 3 games. Possible line-up: Oulahen - Helm - Downey Leino - Abdelkader - Tardif Ritola - Emmerton - Haydar Lemieux - McGrath - Pare Kindl - Galvin Kolosov - Pyett Jozsa - Atherton Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (11), Abdelkader (10) Assists: Leino (18), Helm, Emmerton (13) Points: Leino (23), Helm (22) Penalty Minutes: Downey (52), Abdelkader (49) Notes: • With last night's shutout, Howard moved into second all-time on the Griffins shutout list. • Jakub Kindl has 6 points in 7 games and is tied for 6th in defenceman scoring. I think there were 22 games, for some reason I only put 21, not that is matters though. As they say, NeverForgetMac.

Seems to consistently be high scores this season and it's very close at the top of the standings.

This is insane, 6-0! Ritola and Helm with their 10th of the season, Kindl with 3 assists, Mursak back in the line-up and an assist.
-
1. GR Leino, (6) (Helm, Kindl), 16:49 2. GR Leino, (7) (Jozsa, Downey), 5:27 2. GR Lemieux, (4) (Pare), 15:55 2. GR McGrath, (5) (Pare, Jozsa), 16:20 That Lemieux/McGrath/Pare line is amazing! Sorry for the duplicate thread uk_wing. Good to see Downey with yet another point.

Veteran Darren Haydar has been named captain. He’s an absolute dominant force in the AHL and impressed the Wings during training camp. He's been great for the young team and has been very vocal in practices. Jonathon Ericsson given an A along with Landon Wilson. Well done to Ericsson and very promising from a Wings perspective to have a young player with good leadership skills. It should be noted that Ryan Oulahen wasn’t included in the leadership group which would be disappointing for him. And I must admit I would’ve liked to see Darren Helm get an A because I think he’s a man with tremendous leadership abilities but perhaos they see him being up with Detroit quite often.
-
Thanks for the heads-up! I thought it was a little strange giving the A to Pyett... That is absolutely awesome news for Kindl. Seriously, that’s huge recognition. Last season he was a healthy scratch and they all but said he was rash and a bit immature. Come this season he’s producing offensively, playing solid defence and wearing an A? Marvelous.

Thanks for posting, hadn't seen that. Downey definitely got the better of that!

Syracuse Crunch (14-12-0-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (13-7-3-3) @ Syracuse Crunch are in town to take on the Griffins in a crunch match (no pun intended). The Griffins are just 3 points ahead of the Crunch so this looms as a must win game at home. 4 time 50 point producer in the NHL Mike York is the Crunch’s main point producer while the 6th overall pick in last years draft Nikita Filatov has 17 points in 23 games. Another rookie, 19 year old Maxim Mayorov, taken in the 2007 draft, is also off to a good start. Jonathan Ericsson should be back in the line-up after missing the past 3 games with injury. Ville Leino finally got back on the scoresheet in his last outings as he added an assist. Mattias Ritola returned to the line-up and scored a goal and had a team high 6 SOG. In-form defenceman Garrett Stafford sat out the last game with an injury and his status is unknown. Justin Abdelkader is in good form having registered a point in 5 of his past 6 outings. Probable line-up: Mursak - Helm - Oulahen Leino - Abdelkader - Haydar Ritola - Emmerton - Tardif Lemieux - Gagnon - Downey Ericsson - Stafford Galvin - Kindl Kolosov - Pyett Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar (10), Abdelkader (9) Assists: Leino (16), Helm (13) Points: Leino (21), Helm (20) Penalty Minutes: Abdelkader (44), Downey (43) Notes: • Abdelkader, Kindl and Oulahen are the only players to have appeared in all 26 games. • Jimmy Howard only has 1 win from his past 7 outings and it remains to be seen who will get the start tonight. Not the captain, that seems to permanently to belong to Haydar. However I've noticed the A seems to be alternating seemingly every other day. With Abdelkader out tonight they gave his A to Logan Pyett, the rookie defenceman. It came as a surprise to me. Considering Pyett has been up and down so far this season, and has been a healthy scratch a few times, why would he of all people get this honour? Helm should be a permanent A IMO.
-
Awesome line, I'm loving it. He won't beat a goalie once this season. He'll probably score 5 goals, all EN.
-
Draper. Absolutely ridiculous.
-
I can see Clearly now!!!
-
Hudler is insane. What a great play by Flip!
-
8 seconds. Griffins up 1-0 with 6 minutes remaining. Gotta hold on! How good is Kindl?
-
I tell you what, ever since being a healthy scratch Ritola has been on fire! 5 points in his last 3 games. This team is on a roll right now, hopefully it can continue today when they again meet Milwaukee.
