I'm finally here, hello everyone. Shots are 31-9! 22 shot differential and we're trailing? And we score!!!
  5. Rochester Americans (3-16-0-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (10-5-2-3) @ The Rochester Americans are in town to take on the Griffins in what should, on paper, be an easy victory. This should have been the first time former prospect Shawn Matthias faced off against the affiliate of the Wings but he was recently called up by the Panthers. Matthias has 4 points and is a team worst -19 in 19 games in the AHL and chances are if he was in any other organisation he wouldn’t have been called up. It's disappointing he likely won't be playing tonight. Detroit has loaned RW Randell Gelech from Grand Rapids to Rochester so this could potentially be an interesting encounter. The Griffins are coming off one of their best wins for the season and should be high on confidence. This is an important divisional match with the Griffins currently in 4th while Rochester are last so the points are there for the taking. The Americans have highly rated prospects Michal Repik and Kenndal McArdle who lead the team in points. Near NHL All-Star (...) Rory Fitzpatrick is on the blueline. Probable line-up: Leino - Hayder - Helm Ritola - Abdelkader - Emmerton Tardif - McGrath - Mursak Downey - Gagnon - Oulahen Ericsson - Pyett Kindl - Galvin Stafford - Jozsa Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Hayder (9) Abdelkader, Wilson (8) Assists: Leino (16), Helm (13) Points: Leino (20), Helm (18) Penalty Minutes: Wilson (37), Downey (32) Notes: • With 2 assists last night Cory Emmerton has 8 assists in 7 games. • With a 2 point night last night Jakub Kindl has 11 points on the season, tied for 14th amonst defenceman scoring. • Lasson started last night and won, it’s doubtful he’ll play again tonight but he is the in-form goalie.

    intangibles

A few interesting names you’ve tossed up there. I’ve read a few reports that suggest Ericsson’s play has been a bit disappointing. I know this goes against what you were saying but he does have only 7 points for the season and he is still goalless. Kindl has eclipsed him as far as offensive output but Ericsson is still an alternate captain and logs heavy minutes. Jan Mursak is one of my favouirte prospects and that’s why it’s been so disappointing that he’s been in and out of the line-up seemingly unable to gain any momentum. He’s played the last 3 games though so hopefully the coaching staff have been impressed with his play and will let him develop. He has only one assist but let’s remember Helm’s struggles to get on the board last year before he took off. I’m not ruling out a similar thing happening to Mursak. I’veperhaps been a tad harsh on Emmerton in the past and have wondered whether people have been overrating him. Well now I’ve seen the light and realise he is a very fine prospect who appears to have top 6 potential in the NHL. After a slow start which saw him be a healthy scratch a few times he’s cemented his spot in the side and as a result is probably feeling more comfortable which lets him play his natural game. Still without a goal but he's chipping in with assists on a regular basis and before too long he should see time on both special units.

And with so many games to add up I might have made a mistake here or there, so check your score and let me know if I made an error. As for the picking of games when they've started, I didn't have a problem with it. Drake_Marcus, you're right in saying that it isn't often that there are Friday afternoon games and I see quite a few people posted their picks when games had already started. So no issues, I espcially understand this week why people might have been late with their picks.

    Zack Torquato

Given the dreadful season he's having, I doubt he'll even get a contract. But his last game was pretty impressive as he had two goals and... 3 - MISS Flemming, 4:27 - Fighting , 5 min 3 - ER Torquato, 4:27 - Fighting , 5 min I hope he keeps it up as I do like him.

11/30 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins 1 @ Chicago Wolves 0

Best win of the season I'd say. 3rd game in 3 nights (granted Chicago had the same schedule) but this was on the road against the West division leaders and they held on for a 1-0 victory. Outstanding result and it puts them 1 point out of the lead in the North division. It was Larsson, who had a 29 save shutout and was awarded the 1st star. 5-0-1 in his last 6 starts and already has 2 shutouts this season.
  10. Grand Rapids Griffins (11-5-2-3) @ Chicago Wolves (13-6-1-1) @ The Griffins will play their third game in three nights as they take on the Chicago Wolves who are also in the midst of a hectic schedule. Grand Rapids have claimed 7 of a possible 8 points from their last 4 games so they are heading into the game with a great deal of confidence. They will draw from their victory against the Wolves two days back, a tight 3-2 win. The Wolves had a 4-3 OT victory last night but conceded three goals in a span of 2:09 in the third period. The Griffins have been getting great contributions from Cory Emmerton and Evan McGrath who are determined to stay in a team loaded with offensive options. Mattias Ritola and Justin Abdelkader both seem to be waking up after enduring sluggish periods during the month. Jimmy Howard has been sharp in his last two outings and got the victory last night which likely means Daniel Larsson, who is 4-0-1 in his last 5 starts, should start tonight. Probable line-up: McGrath - Abdelkader - Downey Leino - Helm - Haydar Ritola - Emmerton - Tardif Mursak - Gagnon - Oulahen Ericsson - Jozsa Galvin - Kindl Stafford - Kolosov Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Haydar, Abdelkader (9) Wilson (8) Assists: Leino (16), Helm (13) Points: Leino (20), Helm (18) Penalty Minutes: Wilson (37), Abdelkader (33) Notes: • Captain Darren Haydar is leading by example this season with 9 goals and 17 points, but he is a team worst -10. • Rookie Jan Mursak has been in the line-up the past two games and his season could be starting to gain some momentum. • Sergei Kolosov seems to have outplayed Logan Pyett for the 6th defenceman position, although they will likely rotate quite frequently throughout the season.

11/30 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins 1 @ Chicago Wolves 0

Tight game, hopefully we can hold on! Larsson is playing real well lately, 21 for 21 thus far tonight. Shots were 18-4 in our favour in the second, that's what I call domination!

11/29 GDT: Rochester Americans 1 @ Grand Rapids Griffins 3

A whole lot of encouraging things to take from this game. First of all good to get the win and have a 2 game win streak heading into tomorrow’s clash against Chicago. First of all I’m really pleased for Downey. I've been hearing a few people who have been discontent with his play lately so this is exactly what he needed for his own confidence and to show people he's capable of chipping in on offence too. Also great to see Adbelkader on the board too because coming into the game he was on a 6 game goalless streak. If he can get back to the level he was playing at in October the whole team will benefit. Pleased to see Ritola score again and get credited with the GWG. Kindl failed to register a point but was a +2 so that can only be good. And Cory Emmerton with yet another assist which makes 9 points in 8 games and he’s on a 3 game point streak. I can’t see him being a healthy scratch for a while… We got the win without Helm, Leino and Hayder showing up on the scoreboard and Howard with 2 strong games in a row, hopefully he can keep it up.

    11/29 GDT: Bruins 4, Red Wings 1

I want a win but I honestly just as badly want Filppula to net a goal. 5 SOG last night, a huge amount for him, so he's either being told to get more pucks on net or he's really frustrated and he's decided to shoot every time he gets a chance. Wings to win 2-1. Filppula and Rafalski the scorers for Detroit.
  15. Chicago Wolves (12-5-1-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (9-5-2-3) @ The West Division leading Chicago Wolves are in town to take on the Griffins in what looms as a very entertaining encounter. The Wolves have one of the best defences in the league and have conceded a mere 42 goals whereas the Griffins have given up 60, from the same amount of games. Less than a week ago the Wolves comprehensively beat the Griffins 6-3 so this looms as a big test. The Wolves have former Griffin and Red Wing Jamie Rivers on the blueline. The Griffins are coming off a SO loss which was already their 3rd SO defeat of the season. Jimmy Howard was in net so it is likely Daniel Larsson will get the start tonight. Darren Helm will most likely be in action for the Red Wings which means enforced Darren McCarty will play for Grand Rapids. Probable line-up: Leino - Hayder - Emmerton Ritola - Abdelkader - Pare Tardif - McGrath - McCarty Downey - Gagnon - Oulahen Ericsson - Pyett Kindl - Galvin Stafford - Jozsa Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Hayder (9) Abdelkader Wilson (8) Assists: Leino (16), Helm (13) Points: Leino (20), Helm (18) Penalty Minutes: Wilson (37), Abdelkader (31) Notes: • Cory Emmerton is still searching for his first goal but has 6 assists in 6 games. • Leino is scoreless in 13 games, Abdelkader in 6.

11/28 GDT: Chicago Wolves 2 @ Grand Rapids Griffins 3

Very good win by the Griffins! Hopefully that gives them some confidence. Great to see Kindl with a goal and assist, and Emmerton continues his fine form with a pair of helpers. Hopefully Mursak stays in the line-up too.

11/28 GDT: Chicago Wolves 2 @ Grand Rapids Griffins 3

Is Helm in Detroit or is he playing in Grand Rapids? I'd feel much more confident with him in the line-up tonight.
  19. Manchester Monarchs (7-6-0-3) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (9-5-2-2) @ Manchester are in town to take on the Griffins who snapped their four game losing streak with a 5-4 OT victory at the hands of Iowa. The Monarchs are the NHL affiliate of the LA Kings and have highly rated former 1st round draft pick Trevor Lewis as well as the small but highly skilled Justin Azevedo, a former teammate of Jakub Kindl. 2008 2nd round pick Vyacheslav Vojnov has also been impressing with 7 points thus far. The Griffins have lost veteran Landon Wilson to the Dallas Stars and his leadership and scoring prowess will be missed. Evan McGrath has jumped at the chance at seeing more minutes and has 4 points in 2 games. Ville Leino is currently on a 12 game scoreless streak, but still leads the team in points. Jan Mursak is once again likely to be a healthy scratch as is rookie defender Sergei Kolosov. Probable line-up: Haydar - Helm - Leino Ritola - Abdelkader - Emmerton Lemieux - McGrath - Gelech Downey - Oulahen - Tardif Ericsson - Pyett Kindl - Galvin Stafford - Jozsa Larsson Howard Team Leaders: Goals: Abdelkader, Hayder, Wilson (8) Oulahen (6) Assists: Leino (15), Helm (13) Points: Leino (19), Helm (18) Penalty Minutes: Wilson (37), Abdelkader (31) Notes: • Jonathan Ericsson should be back in the line-up after being scratched in the last game due to the flu. • Darren Helm’s 7 game point streak came to an end against Iowa. • Rookie Daniel Larsson has more impressive GAA and S% numbers than 4th year pro Jimmy Howard.

    11/26 GDT: Manchester Monarchs 3 @ Grand Rapids Griffins 2 - SO

Thanks for the recap Coyote. Why are we so bad at shootouts this season? I knew with the game going into OT we had to win it there or else we were done, turns out I was right.
  22. Aussie_Wing

    Ville Leino

He's certainly cooled after a very hot start. He seems to be picking up an assist in each game but he is goalless in 13 games which is a bit of a concern. He plays in all situations and is leading the team in +/- which is impressive.

    Quincey Article

Even though he outplayed Meech and Lebda? Weren't they Red Wings defensive prospects? 11 points and +3 in 19 games, yet least amount of upside? Okay.

    11/26 GDT: Canadiens 3 @ Red Wings 1

I cannot believe so many people are ripping into Kopecky. Blind hatred obviously because he was absolutely fine last night, he had quite a few good scoring oppertunities.

    Quincey Article

Let me stop you right there... Meech: 2004/05 GR: 78 games, 14 points. 2005/06 GR: 79 games, 20 points. 2006/07 GR: 67 games, 29 points. Quincey: 2005/06 GR: 70 games, 33 points. 2006/07 GR: 65 games, 22 points. 2007/08 GR: 66 games, 20 points. Lebda: 2004/05 GR: 80 games, 12 points. I'd say he had more ice-time and was used more on the speciality teams too.
